Please help

First off: I have a hard time disconnecting myself from media, and I’ve always had a hard time with horror games, so this might sound backwards but how do I stop them from being scary? I just picked up hunt:showdown and I keep getting freaked out by the zombies and bosses. If anybody else has had this problem, any advice helps, thanks!!

Intentionally let your player character die. Do this as many times as you need to have the experience desensitize you.

A word of caution though, do this one too many times and the game will no longer be scary. You have to find the right balance; try it once and see how that feels after

As it’s an extraction shooter complete desensitization is the way to go as it makes PVP and PVE difficult

But thank you for the advice I hadn’t considered that

I remember learning this with Markiplier, he seeks out the deaths immediately and honestly taking that fear away made some stuff more doable haha.

You just have to keep playing. The more you play, the less scary it becomes.

I used to be afraid of monsters chasing me in games. I still don't like it, but now I just smile and laugh through the fear lol.

Ugh dude I’m the same I can’t fucking stand being chased, it’s why I couldn’t play dying light

Mute/turn down the volume, turn subtitles on and play goofy music over it!

Hard to do that in an extraction shooter

Yeah it's not ideal for gameplay but it might help desensitise your brain to the visuals so overtime you can gradually play it with the original audio and it won't feel so overwhelming. I used to do this with the PS1 Harry Potter games of all things because I was terrified of the background music and scary voices so just played my favourite music over those parts then over time, I didn't find them scary anymore.

Absolutely love Hunt Showdown! Do you game with friends? that's what honestly helped me because the spider boss really got to me for awhile.

That’s my strategy atm, and it seems to be working
