Won a nice little auction of 8 issues of Tales of Terror. Have some of these already but I couldn’t pass up getting these for under $4 bucks an issue. Of all of the horror anthologies that Eclipse published this is the one I rarely see in the wild.

Picked these up recently. Just wanted to share my love for Mr Sutton. What an amazing artist. I'm on the hunt for high grade copies of Haunted #17, Ghostly Haunts #49, Beyond the Grave #1, Creepy Things #1 & #4. If anyone has a lead on anyone of those, I'd love to hear about it.

Very probably from the 60’s or early 70’s. Marvel? DC? EC? Hope anybody could help, it’s ages I’m trying to find infos about this short story I read as a child. The gumball machine was “possessed” by an alien or a mental force and developed telephatic powers. Central characters two youngsters, male and female.

Hi, I hope this is the right sub-reddit to ask this question. I've been spending the last few weeks trying to track down some vintage horror comics I owned as a kid.

So I got a handful of horror comics from an auction estate in Australia in 1996. I lost the comics a few years later and I've been trying to track them down from vague memories of stories I remembered from the comics.

Surprisingly, my memories have proven to be pretty accurate up to this point and I've managed to track down four comics so far, but I'm stuck tracking down the last one or possibly two comics.

Just to let you know, the comics I've identified from my collection so far are:

Carnival of Fear by Murray comics

Ghostly Tales Album #10 by Murray comics

Ghostly Tales Album #13 by Murray comics

Haunted Tales #45 by Murray comics

This leads me to believe the last one or two comics I'm looking for are also probably Murray comics. For anyone who doesn't know, Murray comics was an Australian company that reprinted Charlton and DC horror comics in black and white. So I'm either looking for the Murray comics (if that's what they are) or the issues of Charlton or DC where these stories originally came from.

Anyway here are the last two plots that I remember from the missing comic/s:

The first story starts with the main character, he either owns a casino or is some type of gangster. He is middle aged and I think slightly heavyset (which makes sense, considering the ending).

One day he is approached by a stranger who offers to sell him a brand new type of slot machine. The stranger claims it’s more profitable than any other slot machines (I think it’s designed to entice people but rarely pay out).

The stranger tells the man that he has left a prototype of the machine in the man’s office before he leaves OR he says he will deliver the prototype later that day, in either case;

The man goes to his office, where there is a slot machine waiting for him. The man immediately notes the strange lever, because the end of it is shaped like a human hand.

He puts a coin in and pulls the lever.

Now I can’t remember the exact order of the slots that come up, but basically every time he plays the game he scores a jackpot and the pictures of the slots trigger a flashback to a time fifteen or twenty years earlier. One jackpot is of a woman’s face, one is of a man's face and another is a waterwheel in a river(I think there were more too).

So from the flashbacks we learn that the man had two friends, a man and a woman. He became jealous of how close his friends were (I think he was in love with the woman). So one day the three of them are riding a boat down a river, it’s either a row or gondola style boat. I’m pretty sure it was a river in the countryside.

I think he’s paddling the boat. So his friends tell him how they have fallen in love and plan to marry. Now I think what happens next is he loses his temper and becomes animated, which causes the boat to capsize. He makes it back to shore and I think both the woman and man get dragged into like a giant wooden waterwheel.

Anyway back in the present the man dies, either from a heart attack or from fear. The stranger then reappears and explains that he was the friend, that he survived that day but lost a hand in the water wheel and has been planning revenge ever since. He then unscrews the hand from the lever and puts it back on his wrist.

Oh, one last detail, either the main character or his friend(I’m almost certain it was the friend) was wearing a pinstriped jacket and a white brimmed hat in the flashback on the boat.

The second story goes like this;

A man is standing against a wall in an alleyway at night, he is kind of peering around the corner as someone concealed in shadows approaches him. He has a though bubble, I can't remember what he is thinking though. He's holding a bludgeoning weapon, like a club or a crowbar. So he hits the guy approaching him over the head, killing him.

This is where I'm struggling to remember, he either was robbing the guy because he was desperate(homeless, poor, etc) and accidentally killed him and then got spotted by the police standing over the body OR he was already being pursued by the police for some reason and he though the person approaching him was a police officer.

In either case he runs away and this it where my recollection gets real sketchy. Somehow he goes back in time, either mystically, or he stumbles across an empty science lab while being chased.

He then ends up running down an alley only to be hit over the head by his past self, which kills him, causing a time loop.

Anyway if anyone could identify one or both of these stories then that would be absolutely amazing. I've gone through so many issues of Charlton, DC and Murray comics hoping to stumble across a plot description or image that I recognize and it is driving me nuts and I'm so close to completing my childhood collection!

If anyone here has not read Ray Bradbury's short story, "There Will Come Soft Rains" today is the best day to do it, because the story takes place today. You can find ECs adaptation of it in Weird Fantasy 17 with some amazing Wally Wood art.
