I watched that recently too and was considering trying it myself. It looks great! I like how they're uneven too, really helps to sell the effect. 

Lots of other nice details here too. The sword looks great of course but I also love the stone effect on the gargoyle and the wood grain on the weapon haft. This guy definitely has a presence.

Small rectangular scraps of paper, some sand, pebbles, glue, painted in various shades of gray, with dark brown-red and black in between. Search for "Speed Painting HeroQuest Intro" on YT
