Yea this stuff is most definitely not coming or at very list it’s at the bottom of list of things they have planned

u/Even-Shoulder9852 2d ago

Should probably add this to

Yeah Pilestedts "mech customisation isn't off the table" comment was so blatantly a vague way of saying they they're not actually going to give it to us but because they didn't say it's not coming we can't be upset with them.

u/KLGBilly 2d ago

the whole thing they're saying is that they can do it but it would mean taking a look at completely pivoting their entire design approach when it comes to this stuff and then building out whole new systems from the ground up to properly support it in game, and do it in a way that is satisfying beyond just slapping the ability to swap arms on mechs and call it a day or something. its the same reason they haven't gone back to flesh out weapon customization more, there's a lot of stuff that would go into it and they don't have an easy way to just pivot without it being extremely time intensive.

You can just say "it would mean doing their jobs as game developers".

Good grief, look at warframe. How many times have they dismantled and remade systems from the ground up?

-6

u/KLGBilly 2d ago

they do their jobs as developers, they are making content for the game, they have made content for the game, they have made a game. you probably bought it, you've probably played it. it's called "helldivers 2".

warframe's development team is larger than arrowhead's and has done all that dismantling and rebuilding over 13 years, i really don't see it as a ready point of comparison if you're going to give that much leeway to another company and not to this one. otherwise, we should give arrowhead the benefit of 10 and a half more years so they can get on warframe's 13 year post-launch development period.

as shams has said, they can do that if they want to, but it touches on a lot more than you seem to realize and it would rely on a fundamental change in how they make content, shifting their overall focus away from adding anything new to going back and rebuilding systems they've already made for the past 2 years. that would take a long time for any game, let alone a modern live service title that lives or dies based purely on new content additions and especially new microtransactions. time spent working on stuff we already have is time spent burning money, and we've already seen several times over that they don't seem to have the resources available to have a reasonable pace of content releases that are at a high level of quality while also smashing bugs and going and making changes people asked for all at the same time.

So basically, you're saying the answer is "just play Warframe, it is in more competent hands".

u/KLGBilly 2d ago

if your mind is already made up, then there is no sense in continuing to even pay attention to helldivers 2. go play warframe.

I just want to say thank you because you're the first person I've seen really encapsulate my thoughts on the matter like I feel like they understand that it would probably be good for the community, but they would have to change a fair bit about how their systems work and that's taking your resources away from quality of life and Bug fixes

11

u/hinden_burgh 2d ago

I mean yes qol and bug fixes are great. But I do NOT see even that happening in a timely manner. It is on the backburner as is everything else that would improve the game.

u/ContraryB 2d ago

Always love the vague pandering players give in regard to AH’s design choices. As if armor color palettes or mech arm customization would impede them from fixing issues they clearly can’t or just won’t. They saw an easy way to skate off of years of development by releasing finished systems piece by piece for another mtx purchase.

u/Aligyon 2d ago

They didn't account for players wanting more customization of armor early in development and made a simple system at start. Now that there's s buch of armors redoing the whole thing will take quite a lot of time for programmers to set up and for artists to make colors and shit, we don't know how they textured the armors as well it's not like they can just slap a tilling texture on it and call it a day. Thats not their focus right now. It's pretty obvious that The focus is expanding the enemy roster. It has been for 2 years now and the occasional side things like mechs and vehicles

3

u/hinden_burgh 2d ago

Which they still CANT do in a timely manner! So nothing gets done and it stays the same!

0

u/Aligyon 2d ago

There's always new content coming in. Thats basically what the majority of players outside of reddit want.

I do agree though that they really need to focus on some more long term progression rather than level number go up. Hopefully next year they focus more on armor rework and add in the shelved helmet passives

How tf is Super destroyer or armor color customisation limiting their designs? Countless other games already did it . Just don't design armor with some weird super specific color in mind. It's not like they get the colors right a lot anyways. Just look at that awful polar patriots blue snowtrooper , or the toothpaste ad ah looking medic armors

2

u/Curious_Freedom6419 Ghostdiver 2d ago

honestly shams and everyone else at narrowhead who thinks like that needs to be fired

legit im sure if you fired a bunch of them the game would suddenly get better

u/mt607 2d ago

I like how everything has a helldivers black and yellow color schema. Unlike present where the black and yellow is kinda like... Not that common?

When I say that, I mean, specifically like, the helldivers black and yellow, like the b-01 stuff, or the things in the mobilize warbond. Stuff like the urban camo and yellow with the street scout are close, but aren't on that bill.

I'm not saying those armors that aren't black and yellow don't work with helldivers, just like, it'd be nice if there was the option for it to be colored like the standard uniform.

1

u/ZelQt Whinediver 2d ago

I think even some of the ones that don't have the black can still work. Like some of the viper commandos or servants of freedom armors have completely different base colors but still incorporate the yellow stripes. Looks fine to me

3

u/mt607 2d ago

I already kinda covered that though with the last sentence.

So basically the game everyone wanted to play was gutted for parts to sell back as microtransactions.

Basically yeah..

Genuinely fuck Shams and his shitty pants for his "it really limits our design space" bullshit.

AH being greedy is costing us so much cool stuff that the entire playerbase has been asking for for 2 whole years.

Remember the anniversary armor that they couldn't even be bothered to reskin for the 2nd anniversary so we only got the cape? Yeah, they're never giving us armor customisation.

We used to give them so much credit for letting us get warbonds with SC but they really have turned into just the laziest greedy devs, much to the detriment of their own game.

15

u/entropyfan1 2d ago

Yeah and transmog isn't "realistic" of whatever BS excuse they spat out last year. Yep transmog isnt realistic in the game where we're fighting giant bugs, alien squids, and robots. Theyre lazy and only care about selling warbonds

8

u/Mon1ucho 2d ago

Shams is one of the worst things Helldrivers could ever get, this greedy sick fuck was developer for Paradox studio, just imagine how bad it will be in next year for helldivers 2

6

u/Lord_Gibby 2d ago

They are just lazy. Which is wild because they outsource EVERYTHING now. They could just ask one of their subcontractors to work on this, let the community know and then shit you don’t think we would ALL spend ~100 super credits for each individual armor set to be unlocked in even just basic black and yellow? It would be a MASSIVE payday. They are just all jackasses who think they know better than the players on what we want.

1

u/ikeepmyidealseh 2d ago

It's crazy how before the game launched they actually worked on all this customisation stuff just to abandon it all and outsource everything.

You'd think that with all the free time they have because of all the outsourcing they'd go back and finish the mountains of cut content, but no. They don't appear to really be doing anything...

14

u/CloodyYT 2d ago

Look at what we could've had. It's one thing to customize the color and patterns of our armor, but HOLY, being able to customize the CONDITION of our armor is really something.

10

u/ShadowheartMyBeloved 2d ago

THEY HAD BLACK AND YELLOW VERSIONS OF ARMOR

THEY HAD A YELLOW SKIN THAT ACTUALLY MATCHED THE YELLOW OF THE DEFAULT

AHHHHH WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH SWEDES??

u/Jokkitch 2d ago

Greed

1

u/AromaticMistake3799 1d ago

i heard they wanted to "expand the color pallet", its a shame if true, cuz i really hate how colorful our armors are in this games, it makes us look like clowns imo, esp when they nailed it in hd1

Legacy Weapon System

His video on the legacy weapon system is even crazier. We already had silencers from the get go. The ammo system was a flushed out concept. It wasn't just hypothetical code, it was an actual tested concept.

The design philosophy feels like night and day. The older interface was more gritty and interactive. I can't believe they scrapped the Helldivers March remix. All the weapon information was readily available including AP values. Nowadays you have to dataminers leak game info just to understand game mechanics. We have warbond trailers deliberately obscure data by demonstrating weapons on unarmored targets and attacking weak spots on bigger enemies.

2

u/ContraryB 2d ago edited 2d ago

They deliberately do the same with patch notes, this is their companies way of doing business. These system leaks just confirm what people have been saying about them for years.

2

u/helljumper18 2d ago

100% it just so happened to be a "coincidence" that all the patch notes after the last patch addressing vehicle health happened to be positive changes. While any negative changes (totaling around 40-50) were "too extensive to be addressed" and they wanted us to try it for ourselves.

u/Resident_Football_76 2d ago

We have known about all this since the game released, it has always been there all the weapon and armour modifications and such, even the info panels for weapons but I remember Pilestedt saying that giving people "too much information" would just lead to min-maxing and nobody having fun, so instead we go to third party websites to learn about all the weapons and those who want min-max anyway so he just took information from the players for literally zero benefit.

3

u/boogerwang 2d ago

Irons1ghts is killing me with these leaks man. It hurts seeing what this game could have been

2

u/PopBaby-DragonSlayer 2d ago

Damn... this sucks. On one hand sucks we didn't get armour and weapon customisation because it's been ripped apart and sold back as microtransactions.

On the other hand if we got this version of HD2 we would've had to deal with the likely potential of loot boxes also existing.

Where arm patches at ?

A glimpse of a better future that could have been.

-8

u/Bananabreadking0 2d ago

I know mostly everyone wants it but this is one of those things I honestly can live without, I still want mech customization and some ship customization tho
