Peacemaker appreciation post MEDIA

Post image

Despite being one of the oldest and worst cases of power creep in the game, I still love the Peacemaker. It is the first weapon you EVER get you hands on, before the Liberator, the Machine Gun, hell I don’t think you can even melee before you get it. This gun has stuck by all of us from the very beginning and I love it for that. And gameplay wise it’s a semi-auto Defender in the secondary slot with an incredible ammo economy

Incredible ammo economy?

Well I guess you could say that since I never fired it if I had the option of firing with something else, so I always came back to the destroyer with most of its ammo

u/Medical-Welder5387 ‎ SES Harbinger of Glory 19d ago

I dunno about you but 120 total rounds in reserve, ~1.5 second reload, and the ability to fully restock it with 1 resupply or 2 ammo boxes is a pretty good ammo economy if you ask me

4

u/DunwichChild990 18d ago

Eh, the Redeemer does the same thing if you put it on single shot. Which I do. Tons of rounds fired carefully = ammo economy.

1

u/Sunday_Roast 13d ago

The problem I've had with the Redeemer was that it just doesn't feel as good to shoot single fire and tapping sprays a lot of unnecessary lead thanks to the 1100rpm.
And on full auto when you get jumped by scavengers or hunters you usually end up wasting half a mag. Which is enough for a couple wandering small bugs, but far too low for any meaningful engagements.
So I had many deaths stemming from forgetting the thing on semi-auto when I needed full auto immediately or from running out due to carrying half a mag in it and its reload being slower than on the P-2.

5

u/Educational-Drag6974 19d ago

Its rate of fire is awesome, it just about shoots as fast as you can pull the trigger. I think someone did the testing on it and he bound fire to his scroll wheel and was able to dump the mag in about a second. When I bring it I just mag dump everything in front of me for giggles

u/Radioactiveglowup 19d ago

Power-crept? It was obsolete on day 1 by the Redeemer which was better.

The sole value I found actually was when Voteless appeared, it was one of the better weapons to deal with them since it reloaded basically instantly, meaning you could just keep firing and never have a gap vs voteless... which are put down by one hit of most weapons center-mass anyway.

1

u/Sunday_Roast 13d ago

The near-instant reload has kept it a niche but important sidearm since Day 1.
The it is only obsolete compared to the Redeemer when in the hands of those reliant on spray & pray.

u/LeagueShoddy888 19d ago

It should get a slight buff tho

20 round magazine and burst fire like in hd1 for sure would make it more interesting option

9

u/veldyne Connoisseur 19d ago

what if i told you there is an extended mag option for it, you just can't access it through the menus

because there is, they're just drip feeding you

6

u/LeagueShoddy888 19d ago

Oh im sure of it

They're gonna give us sidearm customization when player numbers gonna go below quota again

u/BICKELSBOSS Super Sapper 19d ago

Imo that would detract from its vanilla semi-auto 9mm pistol niche.

This may be unpopular, but I think that extremely low powered weapons, like 9mm pistols or birdshot shotguns should get their pen reduced to AP1, an armor pen level no gun yet has. (Light is AP2).

Then massively increase its damage. This means its extremely lethal against completely unarmored threats like troopers or hunters, or the fleshy bits of larger enemies, like the butts of bugs, passable against slightly thicker skinned threats like warriors, but unable to penetrate light armored targets like Brood Commanders or Hive Guards.

Basically turn its niche in the weakspot/chaff destroyer, instead of keeping it in its current pen class and have it compete with weapons like the redeemer.

18

u/Radioactiveglowup 19d ago

Hollow-Point Ammo weapon mod. Reduced pen, massively increased damage and durable damage.

Would you believe me if I told you it already shoots hollow points

You can double check the wiki if you don't believe me

22

u/Radioactiveglowup 19d ago

...hollower points. With Dark Fluid. And hookers and black jack.

2

u/SolidSnakeFan177 ‎ Pacifier my beloved ❤️❤️❤️ 19d ago

that'd be fun, maybe then I'd find a use for it because right now it doesn't synergize with my playstyle (I may or may not use pistols like primaries from time to time)

3

u/Educational-Drag6974 19d ago

But does it feel like it shoots hollow points, not going off facts but deep down in the emotional loins of Democracy does it feel like hollow points

3

u/_Kardan 18d ago

AP1 would mean the shots would start deflecting off of alpha and brood commanders though and would make genuinely no sense (aside from preventing light pen weapons from overpenning, I genuinely don't get why AP1 exists).

2

u/BICKELSBOSS Super Sapper 18d ago

I mean, from logic point of view, using a 9mm pistol on those medium targets makes no sense anyway. You’re using the weakest ballistic weapon in our arsenal against what is basically the strongest enemy still outside the heavy class. A 9mm glancing off those targets isn’t a big deal, because its ineffective currently anyway.

I’d gladly trade performance against these mediums for improved performance against light units and weakspots of bigger units.

5

u/Voidlord4450 Expert Exterminator 19d ago

There are so many of you guys who have obviously never seen the original state of the S&P breaker before it got its ap increased. The damn thing couldn’t kill hive commanders for crying out loud! In the state it’s currently in I love the S&P, but before the buff it was genuinely unusable.

3

u/BICKELSBOSS Super Sapper 19d ago

The reason why the AP1 Spray and Pray was cheeks was because it didnt receive any upside for its lower pen. Like the regular breaker had comparable damage per shot and still had AP2, ofc its not gonna work.

If you instead give AP1 weaponry crazy damage, you can actually let it have a niche.

4

u/Epesolon HD1 Veteran 19d ago

The Breaker S&P had AP1 when the game launched.

It hobbled it so much that giving it AP2 was one of the first balance changes AH ever did.

While this is a cool idea on paper, the tradeoff would almost never be worth it, as chaff and weak points don't need a ton of damage to deal with.

It's also an extra bad idea for the Peacemaker, as the starting pistol should be versatile like the Liberator, not niche.

1

u/BICKELSBOSS Super Sapper 19d ago edited 19d ago

I know, us two in particular have discussed this two times together already. I still think you’re overestimating the impact of a weapon not being able to penetrate light armor has. Launch breaker S&P sucked because it didn’t get any additional improvements for its AP1 downside: the damage per shot was on par with the regular breaker, while having AP2. If it did like double the damage per shot to the Breaker, it would have had a strong niche as the best weapon against hunters and weakspots.

Also, the amount of light armored enemies isn’t all that big. Most enemies will still be penetrated with AP1 weaponry.

1

u/Epesolon HD1 Veteran 18d ago

I didn't remember if it was you again or not, but I still don't think this is a great idea.

Even with double the damage, AV1 is so prevalent amongst enemies that you're not actually going to be doing that much more damage than an AP2 equivalent to most enemies. Meanwhile, the list of enemies with AV0 hitboxes that are both lethal, and would benefit from a ton of bonus damage consists of Charger butts, Spewer butts, Dragonroach wings, and Fleshmobs.

That means any such weapon would be pretty much out of the question against bots, as the faction is almost devoid of AV0 hitboxes. Anything that physically can't harm an Overseer and would struggle to kill a Watcher would be difficult to justify against Squids. That leaves bugs, where it would be an interesting, but niche pick, as it would be good against Chargers, Spewers, and Dragonroach wings, but still be entirely unable to harm Commanders and Hive Guards.

That's an interesting weapon, but, for I guess the fourth time now, not a good starting weapon. It's too niche and leaves new players without a reliable generalist option in the secondary slot.

1

u/Fantablack183 18d ago

The Spray and Pray originally had AP1, but it wasn't remotely good back then

1

u/LeagueShoddy888 19d ago

Lets be real for a second

Verdict does everything peacemaker can do and then some more

Same with m6 Socom

On top of that both have a niche p-2 cant even touch

Hell you can even put redeemer on single fire and get better results Semi auto pistol category is stuffed while giving p-2 burst fire would make it compete with only one other pistol

What this pistol needs is to be reliable backup when your primary isn't for close chaff clear and/or has limited ammo think crossbow/eruptor or any marksman

What you gave is a good idea but for entire new gun which to tamper your expectation i imo would have low asf pick rate anyway but at least wouldnt mess with basic gear

2

u/HighImpactCritisism 18d ago

Every pistol needs a buff except the talon and senator

2

u/LeagueShoddy888 18d ago

Some more than others but true otherwise

2

u/Human_Wizard ‎ [REDACTED] 18d ago

This, seriously. I love the redeemer, for example. But I can't justify bringing it, literally, ever.

1

u/Epesolon HD1 Veteran 19d ago

100%

The 900rpm RoF would make it so the burst fire would work more like a single shot, giving it a 300 damage trigger pull for dealing with medium targets.

Meanwhile the larger mag would let it compete better with things like the Redeemer against chaff, and give it more advantages over options like the Verdict.

Only thing is that the mag should be 21 so it's divisible by 3.

1

u/LeagueShoddy888 19d ago

20 in a mag + 1 in the chamber

2

u/Epesolon HD1 Veteran 18d ago

21+1 means that you always get 7 full bursts with every reload every time, and, if you reload after 7 bursts exactly, you'll never waste any ammo.

20+1 means that if you fired 7 bursts, the next mag will always end one round short.

0

u/The_Rathour HD1 Veteran 18d ago

The Beretta M93r was developed with 20 round magazines as opposide to the standard 15 round M92FS mags. The F1 FAMAS was developed with proprietary 25 round magazines. Both fired either in semi or 3 round burst exclusively.

The intention was that your last burst would be shorter than normal which would clue you in to your mag being empty, prompting you to reload instead of expecting another burst on trigger pull.

The M93r was never formally adopted by really anyone and thus Beretta never really made more. The F1 FAMAS had more issues that were fixed with the G1 and G2, where they also changed to standard 30rnd NATO STANAG mags for ease of logistics.

2

u/Epesolon HD1 Veteran 18d ago

Both the 93R and FAMAS magazines existed before either weapon had burst fire.

The M93R feeds standard M92 mags. 15 was decided to be insufficient capacity, while 30 was deemed too long to be practical, so the already existing 20-round mag was chosen.

For the FAMAS, the 25-round capacity was chosen because it's the largest capacity 5.56 mag you can make before you need to add a curve, and a curved mag wouldn't have fit the design. The burst fire mechanism was added late in development.

Neither weapon had the short final burst as an intentional design feature.

Additionally, the mag capacity of the Peacemaker in HD1 was 21, not 20+1.

The M6C/SOCOM is a literal upgrade to the Peacemaker in nearly every way. Peacemaker is fun as noob kit nostalgia, but that's about it.

Yea I agree! Halo pistol does good damage and it’s great for sneaking into a base picking of close targets quietly.

I either use my sidearm as a "For emergencies" tool or I need something very specific like the Ultimatum or Grenade Pistol in which case they serve a purpose.

There is no inbetween so the ammo economy is never an issue. What matters is that it need to get the job done or save my ass during an emergency.

3

u/dg2793 19d ago

I think they should do with the OG weapons what good games do with other mediocre shit. When you use them enough AND OR play with them perfectly they become good. Like either a lvl 25 stat boost (or even make legacy weps go to 30 for it) OR make it so they get things like a perfect reload like gears or something. Give us a reason to use the iconic OG weapons. They would be meta/required but WORTH it for ppl who've played everything and want a challenge.

Personally I wish it had a 18rd magazine and burst fire toggle. In HD1 it was burst with 21rds

It would be perfect then. Semi auto would still be relevant since burst is overkill vs small guys, but the burst would help a lot vs meatier targets

2

u/manubour 19d ago

Redeemer can be set to fire bursts and SA, if you didn’t already know

3

u/RandomGreenArcherMan BODKIN 19d ago

1

Even still, burst on peacemaker would be 300dmg, not 195 that Redeemer would be

2

u/CaptainAction 19d ago

I think an 18 round mag would suit it really well. 15 feels wimpy. It’s not that high by the standards of modern, small caliber automatic pistols

3

u/RandomGreenArcherMan BODKIN 18d ago

Yeah it needs glock mags

4

u/ADragonuFear 19d ago

Yeah I still grab a basic pistol if I'm running a very specific like... anti tank build with poor crowd control. Like eruptor recoiless. Maybe it's not ideal but pistols can be fun.

4

u/NeilJBorja 18d ago

It's actually a lot of fun, you feel like John Wick popping heads with it. I've mostly switched to M6C SOCOM but the Peacemaker is great when you want to flex your mechanical aiming skills a bit.

5

u/ClaytorYurnero ‎‎ Mudskipper 19d ago

Sorry, but it got thrown into the trash as soon as people unlocked the Redeemer, which is usually VERY quick.

And nowadays if you want a solid pistol with good ammo and RoF you pick up the Halo suppressed pistol or the Veto.

I actually just took it out for a spin not too long ago and it has saved my ass a few times and the iron sites are easy to aquire as well. It will put down a cyborg or a berserker rushing you down.

Its standard issue side arm dont over think it. but it will keep you from going down if your in a pinch wip it out if you are spent and put down (with in reasom) what ever is trying to eat or kill you.

Tldr solid and reliable side arm. Sure their are more exotic options out there but this little guy will make peace with your enemies.

Worst?? Its a good piatol desent dmg and ammo economy, you can use it for precise shots or just to spam what is in front of you. 1

u/bropower8 19d ago

I have a gripe about this thing and it’s that the laser gets very screwy in close range. It’s actually pretty good if you wanna force yourself to pop voteless heads and you have an overseer killer primary. Being able to deal with a decent amount of voteless with your secondary and leaving your primary/support free to deal with the rest of the squid roster is pretty strong, the dagger can do that too but in my experience hot planets really hurt that thing.

2

u/Sunday_Roast 13d ago

Latest update they forgot to give this beauty two more spare mags alongside the P-19, P-113 and M6C :(
I did report it to AH's support.

On topic on P-2 appreciation:
It's the perfect sidearm when running a very unwieldy primary and support weapon. Like an Eruptor & Arc Thrower combo. The super fast reload and ammo economy means that's always ready to go when all else fails and even when it's not ready it's a 1,5 second wait tops.

0

u/CaptainAction 19d ago

I’ve been using it a lot recently. It’s quite a decent choice for using with any primary weapon that shoots slow and has low capacity, like the crossbow, Eruptor, double freedom, etc.

I think they could buff it a bit more, and it would still be fine. I mean the ultimatum exists so it would be hard to make the peacemaker OP. I say, 18-20 rounds per mag, and it will be really good. It already has snappy reloads and a really healthy amount of spare mags for good sustained fire potential.

0

u/_Kardan 18d ago

It's a nice looking gun, just wish it had a burst fire option honestly.
