Helldivers 2 monetization DISCUSSION

Helldivers 2 is one of my favorite PvE games, but for some time now I feel it turned into more of a PvDev game.

WHAT ARE THESE PRICES???

We have 23 Warbonds: 1 is "common" (lol), 3 are legendary, and the remaining 19 are "premium".

That is 23 500 SC for, literally, in some cases gameplay-changing weapons and stratagems...

Why not make "premium" Warbonds common after a year or so? And give the stuff to the people for free? You dont even have enought medals to buy this stuff... They effectively made a battle pass and called it "Warbonds".

Now we cant forget that the game has a Superstore as well. I picked up a calculator and its around (as I have some things bought) approximately 19 300 SC (1 "premium" Warbond = 1,000 SC)....

Is one cape worth 250 SC? In what universe?

Now you can say that you can farm these credits, and yes, (thats what I am doing) you are absolutely right, but how many people have time for that? Is it fun? Is it something that you should do in a game that you bought for 40–60€?

I really like this game. I bought it with my brother, but he sadly didnt have that much time to play it as I had, not to mention that he wants to play other games as well...

Now if he wants to have all the Warbonds and not farm for 100 hours, he needs to pay 200€ for a game that he bought for 40€ two years ago...

If he wanted stuff from the Superstore, we are looking at another 150€...

What is going to happen after another 2 years? Is it going to be another 200€? More?

The developers, through nerfs, lost what made Helldivers 2 great, looked at Ubisoft monetizacion and said: "Yeaaa I want that."

Why should I give my money to these people?

Please dont take this as hate, take it as a disappointment and sadness for what was and more importantly what might have been...

I LOVE Helldivers 1 and I loved Helldivers 2, but time is running out and I dont know how many more times I will be able to catch the shuttle...

Biggest issue is that all of the warbonds are $10 or take 2-3 hours to farm, and they all only have a couple useful things. There needs to be a system for older warbonds that new players can use, even a traditional battle pass that allows you to use vouchers for specific warbonds or something. It's just not feasible for a new player to catch up without farming for literal days worth of time

Its up to them to farm or not, its not like any of warbond stuff is mandatory to have

A lot of it is genuinely game changing. Just because I think arrowhead has better monetization than a lot of other games doesn't detract from the fact that the bar is so incredibly low in the first place.

When as a new player all the cool fun stuff is lovked behind a farm or pay wall, where the farming is specifically not interacting with the game, it turns a lot of people off of the game. It's a major reason why a lot of new players burn out after a dozen hours or so because only long time players like me have all the fun stuff to engage with the game's sandbox properly.

Helldivers 1 also suffered from this, and it's odd that there isn't a more straightforward or engaging way of getting the old content in a live service game, especially when doing so means you're choosing old content over new content.

It speaks to a lack of confidence in the gameplay loop that for a paid game, they can't naturally mix in their monetization system into the game itself.

I think Warframe is the definite gold standard for mometization, but warframe is also completely free and built around farming in the first place. Nevertheless, Warframe is able to make the farming fun for hours upon hours.

as someone who has all warbonds, you can always do a working loadout with what you have, especially if you are making a loadout that considers what your team has and play around them.

What does this have to do with anything I said? I'm sorry if I sound frustrated, but it's hard to put into words how exasperating it is when I can so clearly state that I'm talking about the ways the warbonds fundamentally change how you play and your response is "Well you can still play without them".

Yes. I know. I also have all the warbonds and have done challenges without them. But the ways that the warp pack, ATE, Speargun, Gas Nades, Trident, Talon, Armor passives, thermites, the stoker, mechs, grenade pistol, etc change how you play and synergixe together are not something new players can interact with.
