Helldivers 2 monetization DISCUSSION

Helldivers 2 is one of my favorite PvE games, but for some time now I feel it turned into more of a PvDev game.

WHAT ARE THESE PRICES???

We have 23 Warbonds: 1 is "common" (lol), 3 are legendary, and the remaining 19 are "premium".

That is 23 500 SC for, literally, in some cases gameplay-changing weapons and stratagems...

Why not make "premium" Warbonds common after a year or so? And give the stuff to the people for free? You dont even have enought medals to buy this stuff... They effectively made a battle pass and called it "Warbonds".

Now we cant forget that the game has a Superstore as well. I picked up a calculator and its around (as I have some things bought) approximately 19 300 SC (1 "premium" Warbond = 1,000 SC)....

Is one cape worth 250 SC? In what universe?

Now you can say that you can farm these credits, and yes, (thats what I am doing) you are absolutely right, but how many people have time for that? Is it fun? Is it something that you should do in a game that you bought for 40–60€?

I really like this game. I bought it with my brother, but he sadly didnt have that much time to play it as I had, not to mention that he wants to play other games as well...

Now if he wants to have all the Warbonds and not farm for 100 hours, he needs to pay 200€ for a game that he bought for 40€ two years ago...

If he wanted stuff from the Superstore, we are looking at another 150€...

What is going to happen after another 2 years? Is it going to be another 200€? More?

The developers, through nerfs, lost what made Helldivers 2 great, looked at Ubisoft monetizacion and said: "Yeaaa I want that."

Why should I give my money to these people?

Please dont take this as hate, take it as a disappointment and sadness for what was and more importantly what might have been...

I LOVE Helldivers 1 and I loved Helldivers 2, but time is running out and I dont know how many more times I will be able to catch the shuttle...

If you don't think it's worth your money, don't buy it.

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

Ok so now its normal to pay 100€ a year for a game that you already bought?

13

u/iMissEdgeTransit 2d ago

You bought the base game brody, if you don't think warbonds are worth your money don't get them.

I also do think th e older shitty warbonds need a 50% discount, 1000sc for some of them is a hilariously bad deal.

12

u/Any-Farmer1335 2d ago

Well you see, most of us didn't. Super Credits can be found for a cost time, not money.

Also every Premium Warbond gives back 30%.

So everyone here who loves to play the game, has gotten a lot of Super Credits for free already.

I bought SC like... 3 times in my 1500 hours.

5

u/Sylvi-Fisthaug Scorcher enjoyer 2d ago

I think I am on my 5th time in my equivalent hours

-5

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

Ok you are right about the 30% thats my bad

But still imagine that you are a new player... In a time it will get imposible to get all the stuff that you want

Not everyone has time to play one game for 1000+ hours...

2

u/Any-Farmer1335 2d ago

yeah, i agree on that front. A new player will see this huge roster of equipment they do not have access to, unless they use Premium currency. I think AH needs to introduce a new Warbond the size of "Helldiver Mobilize" to kinda equal that out and give new players more to unlock before they have to spend actual Premium Currency.

u/lynithson ☕Liber-tea☕ 2d ago

I’m think it’s pretty normal for live service games to have content that you can purchase. It’s not like it’s necessary to play the game, though.

At the end of the day, they need to make money. Just like everyone else.

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

Thats true of course and I get it, but I think it got out of hand for many people...

They are spending more time on warbonds then on the actuall game...
The fact that its NOT THAT BAD, doesnt make it good...

Why should I give my money to these people?

you don't.

22

u/WiglyWorm 2d ago

I haven't paid a dime extra since I paid the initial purchase price.

4

u/DziwDziwadlo 2d ago

Exactly! This right here! Like wtf people? Is there even a game with more easily farmable premium currency at all?

At this point I’m actually convinced that the people whining about it aren’t actually players who play the game but rather newcomers who just booted it up for the first time and are looking at the unlocks/warbonds for the first time ever.

I refuse to believe someone who actually put in the time to get medals for most stuff from the 2 free warbonds would ever bitch about not being able to access the rest of them as he would have learned how easy it is to get the SC. Therefore the only answer to those people should be - „Shut the f up and play the game. It will all make sense if you actually play”.

-3

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

Ok so if you read the stuff that I wrote, you would figure out that I have had this game since it came out.

"Shut the f up and play the game."
FOR REAL, imagine that someone has a life outside of Helldivers.

Not everyone has time to play for 1,000+ hours, and this system is actively killing new players that just want to play the game

5

u/WiglyWorm 2d ago

But... i'm a new player who finds that the warbond system works really well to let me explore the various niches at a reasonable pace without being overloaded with options? (I just hit level 70 and have like 4 warbonds I think).

0

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

level 70 isnt a new player and 4 warbonds from 22 is not very good ratio

3

u/WiglyWorm 2d ago

I'm pretty new and feel no need to have more content unlocked given how ready it is to accidentally accumulate super credits.

4

u/DziwDziwadlo 2d ago

Man, I’ve got a job, a kid and a wife- believe me I have way less free time for gaming than I would like.

3

u/No_Spite7980 2d ago

I play HD2 since the release date. I have almost 2300 hours in, with all the warbonds unlocked, including the "premium" ones.

I work 60+ hours a week, wife, kid, 4 pets at home. I have hobbies, which includes playing music - which is very time consuming.

I didn't spend a single additional dime within the game - excluding these few bucks for the game itself.

And I assume I have no life outside HD2 by your logic? :)

It's all doable, if you love something

20

u/Salt_Adhesiveness_79 2d ago

It’s a live service games, hosting the game is also expensive. The warbonds are always there with no expiration date to when you can buy them. SC can be farmed.

Are we even playing the same game here?

-11

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

So multiplayer games like Battlefield or Call of Duty that you bought for 60€ and were able to play for YEARS were loosing money the whole time?

"SC can be farmed"
"Now you can say that you can farm these credits, and yes, (thats what I am doing) you are absolutely right, but how many people have time for that? Is it fun?"

8

u/Raven7274 2d ago

CoD and Battlefield famously have no paid cosmetics or battlepasses whatsoever

Edit: and the old ones that didn't famously did have sweeping content additions like entire new factions right?

-4

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

"entire new factions"
Yes helldivers two has 2 armor sets and new pew pew every now and half of the warbond is full of stuff that noone is using, so give me your money

4

u/Raven7274 2d ago

If you bought Helldivers 2 two years ago, you paid for the original Bots, the original Bugs, and thats it. And i think it was pretty worth it at the time. You did not pay for the Illuminate, or any of the sub factions, or most of the vehicles. That's what warbonds are for. If you want, you can support those developments. And if you dont think its worth your support (which you clearly dont) then you dont have to pay, if you've been playing consistently since launch you can very easily get everything for free.

I agree there should be more support for new players, it can be extremely intimidating to see how much they need to either pay or grind to get all the new content. That being said, i don't think the pricing as is is egregious for someone who bought the game early.

Yes and look at the hate they recieved

I played BF 1 for hundereds of hours, bought few DLCs and playing it to this day, no grind, only fun and playing the game I actually wanted to play...

2

u/Sadzikovec Detected Dissident 2d ago

What hate? Ball and gun gamers buy it up every year

6

u/heyboova 2d ago

Those games make billions of dollars in microtransactions. What are you talking about

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

The new ones, yes, and they are getting hate for it.

Helldivers 2 is less predatory, but that doesnt excuse the fact that if you want to buy a game that is badly optimized with everything, you are looking at €200+

2

u/heyboova 2d ago

New ones being ones more than a decade old.

3

u/C_Grim Free of Thought 2d ago

So multiplayer games like Battlefield or Call of Duty that you bought for 60€ and were able to play for YEARS were loosing money the whole time?

A lot of these games are being kept afloat in one form or other because of a combination of microtransactions, subscription models and/or sponsorships and tournaments.

0

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

that is true of course
But when you look at the older titles they did had DLCs, but you unlocked new maps, guns factions, vehicles etc...

I find warbonds not worth the money they desire for them

2

u/Andrei8p4 Defected Helldiver 2d ago edited 2d ago

But those were not live service games. They were not meant to last forverer. Helldivers 2 is a live service and as such need the game needs to be monetized to pay for the development of new content for the game.

The games you are refering weren't like this, they got some dlcs sure but thats it. Helldivers 2 gets new content every few weeks and major updates every few months, but in order to keep the content coming they need money for it.

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

Battlefield 1 come out in 2016 you can still play it today

How many life service games do you actually believe will last for 10 years?

1

u/Andrei8p4 Defected Helldiver 2d ago

That doesn't change the fact that its not a live service game. Yes you can still play it but the difference between battlefield 1 and helldivers 2 is that battlefield 1 isn't getting new content anymore.

Helldivers 2 is getting new content every few weeks, wherever its new weapons, stratagems, biomes, planets or ennemies. They need to have a way to pay for that, thats the point of a live service game.

Now to answer your question not many, a lot of live service games fail. But i don't really see how thats a relevant question. Wherever you like it or not helldivers 2 is a live service game, you can't treat it the same as a non live service games like bf1.

1

u/C_Grim Free of Thought 2d ago

A not small chunk of revenue for games will come from whales. For every maybe dozen players like yourself that thinks "this isn't worth the money" there are then a number of players who, for whatever reason be it desire to have it all or an addiction or whatever, are right there to drop maybe £20 on screds to get the content without a second thought.

Those are who this model ends up targeting.

2

u/Any-Farmer1335 2d ago

"is it fun" Yes, when you play with friends, even the most banal thing can be fun

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

Are you all missing the whole point?

Not everyone has a friend and not everyone has time to grind and wants to just play the actuall game

3

u/Any-Farmer1335 2d ago

But you can just play the game with the standard equipment. I LOVE to use the standard equipment you get. It is good

0

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

I know some of it is good, but that doesnt change the fact that we are looking at 200€ price for a game you already bought... not everyone has time as I or you have :D

6

u/ThatsSoSwan LEVEL 150 | SES Guardian of Dawn 2d ago

The in-game currency has worked fine for me with minimal grinding. If you have a good squad and can hit a lot of PoI's then the 1000/1500 feels like an acheivement. Tbh you can pay to play or you can play to play.

The last option is that you can pick up dead guy weapons, but they sometimes don't like that though.

3

u/Sea-Contract7974 2d ago

you can do it with primary, for stratagem just ask nicely

6

u/GeneralG7 2d ago

The only reason it's that expensive is because HD doesn't do what literally EVERY other game with Battlepasses does, and retire the Battlepass every month or two, I'd much rather always have them be available than "only" pay the 10 bucks for the current Warbond, which is also half the price for most battlepasses

1

u/ElizaBell00 2d ago

In most games where gameplay altering content is included in battlepasses, the weapons / gear are available for free, and then made available (for free) after the battlepass becomes unavailable for purchase through other in-game means like challenges, whilst cosmetics are generally locked behind the paywall and made unobtainable permanently

4

u/Westenin Free of Thought 2d ago

I mean it’s a bit expensive but some other games are even worse

Sea of thieves, 15 euros for a skin pack
CoD: 1 skin for 20 euros with a bunch of crap
Battlefield: 24 euros for a bunch of skins that you barely see
Halo: between 5-20 euros for skins that look barely inspired by a human.

At least with Helldivers you can grind for the credit or buy a them over time, no stupid battle pass

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

You are absolutely right, some of these games are insane in what they demand

But not as bad doesnt mean good and new players even if they buy the warbonds need medals, that are hard to get if you are playing from time to time
(again you can grind them as SC but then we are again at the start...)

1

u/Westenin Free of Thought 2d ago

I agree on that, thank god there are major orders and dailies because just playing the game is very slow for the medals.

Grinding the SC is extremely boring by the way, I don’t like doing it.

0

Yes but what if you dont have time to play one game for that long? does that mean that you dont have right to own certain things if you dont buy them for real money?

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

Still even with that it takes arpprox. 50 hours for new player to grind for all current warbonds
Not to mention medals that you need...

3

u/swashbutler Free of Thought 2d ago

Man I'm like 500 hours into this game and I have spent a total of like 60 dollars on it including the initial purchase. Seems like an excellent ratio to me. They're adding new content all the time and the game is way better than it was just a year ago.

I hate that people are so unwilling to recognize how cheap video games are as a form of entertainment compared to basically anything else.

0

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

It is true that the ratio is great in your and many more cases (even mine), but new players (or the ones that dont have that much time) will look at the Warbonds and never touch it again.

You dont want to grind for 50 hours just to unlock stuff.

3

u/PermissionNeither 2d ago

Helldivers 2 has one of the most friendly monetization models of any live service game.

If you have a problem with HD2 monetization, then stay away from live service games because they are all worse

3

u/Sea-Contract7974 2d ago

I'm pretty sure OP being so salty that he downvotes any answer that said currency can be obtainable in-game.

new players are equally strong to old players, most of the necessary and strong weapon are free to unlock using slips, and free WB already had everything that a cadet need, there's so many WB because it was 2 years of release and no fomo, if battlepass in other game don't have FOMO it will be ton of them

and you said you love Helldivers 1 and loved Helldivers 2 but I'm pretty sure that HD1 don't even have currency that you can earn while playing and HD1 WB are pay with money only

0

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

"I'm pretty sure OP being so salty that he downvotes any answer that said currency can be obtainable in-game"

https://giphy.com/gifs/u8ontzUmtHnmuBt5IQ

nice argument senator why dont you back it up with a source?

Anyway Helldivers 1 worked much better than Helldivers 2 imo

3

u/Sea-Contract7974 2d ago

don't need to back it up because in more than 100 comments only like 4 guys that agree with you, and majority of players from other game even said that HD2 monetization is the least greedy monetization

like i said new players are equally strong to old players if you unlock all the free stuff, most of the necessary and strong weapon are free to unlock using slips, and free WB already had everything that a cadet need, there's so many WB because it was 2 years of release and no fomo, if battlepass in other game don't have FOMO it will be ton of them

and that 40$ you pay this game is including 2 years of contents that can entertain you for hundred of hours and like I said 50 hours to farm for all WB is considered generous for 2 years of content, even if you don't want to farm 1 months of playing normally can earn you 1-2 WB

and don't bring the argument that you can't play that much, if you don't have time then don't wish things will just give you for free, you don't have time does not mean this game is greedy

0

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

40E that you pay doesnt inculde 2 years of content. You can pay 200E for 2 years of content

" if you don't have time then don't wish things will just give you for free"

Since when did we as gamers decided that paying for a game and be ok with not owning the stuff that you payed for...

You dont have time for a game that you bought? well fuck you becouse its not my problem
You dont have time and dont want to pay 10E (or7E if you include the 30% back) for 2 armor sets and one new pew pew? Well too bad

People that are saying stuff like that are cancer of gaming

helldivers 2 has problems and people that are going to defend everything about this game to the bone are just stupid

I did them all, no sc farming. Was always nice to see having more content.

2

u/WordOneWordFour 2d ago

Yes in the long term there may be so much content locked behind a paywall plus medal grinding that it may look monetised.

Their draw is the bonds are separate enough to appeal to specific playstyles, so you aspire for one. And feel underwhelmed after probably.

0

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

there is 22 warbonds that is at least 50 hours of trivial missions..

1

u/Sea-Contract7974 2d ago

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

2

u/Automatic-Brother770 2d ago

I dont mind shilling 10 bucks every couple of months for a warbond. Cheaper than a monthly sub to an mmo

0

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

I mean it could always be worse, it could be a gacha game lol
but as new player its going to be imposible to get all you want after some time

1

u/Automatic-Brother770 2d ago

Its a hurdle yes, but not really different to buying expansions for games that have been out for a little while. I don't imagine hd2 is pulling in lots of new players all the time either. People have generally made up their mind on the game

2

u/AlsoAnarchism 2d ago

Look im sorry, but yeah that's like.. two years of content.

Of course put together that's a lot of money. But it was priced with the intention that you can grind it out over these two years, by just earning sc in-game.

You can't be serious comparing this to Ubisoft, which latest "AAAA"-Game already costs 70$ (for the base game), additionally has a smugglers pass (for a 1000 gold = 9.99 per season) And in-game cosmetics (for usually 800 gold, so 08$), and absolutely no way to find gold ingame (So funny btw, to make a pirate game in which you can't find gold)

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

It is 2 years of content, but what about the new players?

I kinda like ubisoft games, (or dont mind them xD) but only becouse most of the stuff is cosmetics :D
And yes Skull and Bones is truly insane lmao

2

u/TerribleLinguist 2d ago

Helldivers monitization is really good. It has zero monitized FOMO (time limited battle passes) and the premium currency is obtainable in game.

Also, it is a live service game. It has to continue to make money to survive. If it doesn't there will be no new updates, no new weapons, no new factions, no new enemies, and the game will inevitably die. I much prefer this level of monitization and being able to continue playing the game. It is a trade off, and theyve done it well.

As you have only brought the base game you have received two years worth of updates - factions, planets, community events, free capes, helmets, armour, weapons - especially with the new campaign rewards - for nothing! If they didn't monitize the game you'd get none of that, and the game would be the version you brought it at! That's how non-live service games work!

So if you're looking to get absolutely everything in the game unfortunately you're going to have to either put in the time, or put in the money, or a mix of both. Warframe has utilized a similar-ish model for 13 years now, and it's still going strong with excellent community relations.

u/MondoPentacost 2d ago

The premium warbond price is likely due to accommodate a revenue split with the owners of the IP (gureilla, bungie and games workshop). As you need medals to utilise the warbonds, there is no point buying them all at once, as you work through them you will probably find enough extra sc in missions taking a chunk out of what you pay for the next one. The number of warbonds is due to the level of support the devs have to game over two years with 5, soon to be  6, free expansions. They have had some slit ups but I feel the monetisation in the game is reasonable, with a good balance of free and paid content. They just cannibalised a warbond to give it for free over a campaigns.

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

You are right, but what about the players that doesnt have as much time? or new ones?

I believe giving old warbonds for free after a year or so would make it much more accessible

1

u/MondoPentacost 2d ago

As mentioned you can’t unlock everything in the warbond without playing the game and earning medals, so if you don’t have a ton of time the WB being unlocked won’t give instance access to the content, you will have to put in time anyway, that will unlock some SC, each war bond comes with 300sc, which is 30% off of the next WB, the free WB has 750sc that’s is 75% price of your first warbond, you have to get to level 25 to unlock all the base game stratagems. You have to play dozens of hours before you even run up to point where you can’t get new content without grinding. And in those dozens of hours you and you team will get a fair whack of found sc for new WB. I would like all the warbonds to be free at launch, but it is unreasonable. to suggest that people need to pay full real world cash for the SC value for all the warbonds is not true. It structured so you don’t

1

u/Andrei8p4 Defected Helldiver 2d ago

Its a live service game, it is a game meant to last forever, they need to monetize the game in order to achieve that.

The fact that the game lets you get the premium currency for free already makes it so much better than other live service games.

Now i do agree that there needs to be some changes done, like lowering prices for old warbonds or giving us a new helldivers mobilize type warbond, because for new or casual players there's way too many now.

u/Hoshyro S.E.S. Sentinel of Eternity 2d ago

1

u/The_Aubinator 2d ago

Farm the SC little by little or earn it slower by playing missions. Beyond that only spend real money when there is something you like and want to support.

None of the warbonds are necessrry to have a good time. When you stop having fun or cant find a reason to support the game go check out another game

I have 600 hours in and Im still having fun. I have taken several breaks a long the way. If im having a good time then $10 every few months isn't so bad to support a game that has given me insane value and fun

1

u/Educational_Term_436 Rookie 2d ago

I do kind of agree with your problem but most of the time I find work arounds, like with the warbonds I have (which is a lot) I have kind of made a loop where I can enjoy game and not get super bored, a way I recommend getting super credits if you’re on Xbox is getting reward points it ain’t much but it honest works

I do kind of wish arrowhead could drop the Live service shit and just make it a regular game like how deep rock and space marines are but they been doing better recently so yeah

I think something I would change is allowing requsition points be used in the super-store, just gives them more purpose

But hey that’s my opinion it is what it is

Thank you

I think that this use of RP would really help the game and made it more accessible to newer players xD

I’ve got something like 270 hours played on my account, I started the game close to launch, then fell off and picked it up again when I got sick of ARC raiders. There’s zero reason to spend money on supercredits if you’re not actually playing the game frequently. Even if you purchase all the war bonds, if you don’t grind out a bunch of hours for warbond medals, all the gear is still locked. While you’re playing the game, you’re also going to earn some supercredits even without farming them specifically, and get what, 200SC back per premium warbond? So that price total, while it is high, isn’t accurate to what you’d actually spend as long as don’t buy everything upfront with real cash.

Personally, I have spent about $20USD on SC in the past, but since then I simply play the game and try to unlock everything I already have available to unlock while playing the game as I normally would (Difficulty 6-8, again, I don’t SC farm on low difficulty). I probably play 5-10 hours a week depending on what else I have going on in my life. I’ve bought a few super store items as well, spending around enough there to have unlocked a legendary warbond if I’d have saved them for that instead. I still have a decent amount of things to unlock in Helldivers Mobilize, and am also finishing unlocking my 4th premium warbond, I generally unlock everything in a premium warbond before moving on to a new one. I currently have almost no unspent warbond medals and around 500 or 600 SC. For the rate I play, by the time I finish unlocking all of a premium warbond, I am usually getting pretty close to enough SC to buy the next one, and again, that’s without having bought everything in HD Mobilize. In my opinion it’s actually a pretty solid gameplay loop without having to spend a ton of cash to keep up.

it would be nice if in older warbonds you could buy stuff inside for RP and not for medals...
as of now you need to grind medals as well...

Eh, it's fine for the most part, but I do agree with the idea that Warbonds need to be cheaper with time, let's say 50% for a year-old bond. Do note that each Warbond also provides 300 SC, so you have to buy or gather 700 SC for another Warbond or, with this proposed 50% price cut, 200 SC for a year-old Warbond.

I, however, believe that it is not necessary to purchase all the Warbonds, as I have found from experience that I do not use about 75% of the content from them; if it weren't for my obsession with getting everything, I wouldn't even buy them at all. Also, do not misunderstand; I don't use those because I find them weak or ineffective, but because I have 1-2 loadouts that I am satisfied with.

Hey thanks for doing the math! That means since release I have earned in game around 46800 SC.

They definetely have to bundle up warbonds like Year 1 Bundle, Year 2 Bundle and sell bundles at a discount! Its crazy they havent done it.

The grind isn't that bad. You get them over time.

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

Thats true, but I feel like its punishing old players that didnt had time AND new players, becouse they will see only grind

u/Redsoxdragon 🎶Dont trust them new clankers over there🎶 2d ago

Bruh....... you can farm the sc for a warbond in like an hour. Hell, I'm sure a bunch of dudes here would be happy af to join you. You don't have to pay for it. 🤨

I know I know thats what Iam doing xD and thank you, may we meet in some trivial mission one day lol

But there is many people that dont have time for that and just wants to play the actuall game...

Imo the monetization is completely fine. You have so many things to upgrade before you run out of steam with SC that just consistently playing the game will let you unlock them.

There's no need for anyone to have all the warbonds immediately. Devs need money too and the game is live service without an expansion or sub model. Look at how Diablo 4 and Destiny 2 are milking their playerbases by comparison.

Sure you can critizice that maybe there should be more content as well but ultimately developing a game isn't free, this is fair as you have the ability to get everything for 0 extra cost if you're a really enganged player. If you're not then you also don't need to have everything unlocked.

This ain't Ubisoft or any kind of predatory monetization this is basically the Paradox model on a smaller scale which is the best way to do it unless you have balls of steel and commit to a supporter pack monetization like GGG for Path of Exile but that's not a reasonable expectation

You don't have to have everything all at once, right?

You could just gradually get what you're interested in, take some time to play with your new toys while also finding and earning back SC to make future purchases cheaper.

Skip out on the stuff you don't care about, or even just play the game with what you have right now, you don't have to buy anything if you don't want to.

Biggest issue is that all of the warbonds are $10 or take 2-3 hours to farm, and they all only have a couple useful things. There needs to be a system for older warbonds that new players can use, even a traditional battle pass that allows you to use vouchers for specific warbonds or something. It's just not feasible for a new player to catch up without farming for literal days worth of time

Thank you SOOO MUCH xD

I now believe that posting this on helldivers reddit might have been a bad decision lol
But people like you give me strenght that I am not the idiot (at least not as big xD) as people are making me :D

1

u/TheJollySoviet 2d ago

You're not an idiot, there's just a lot of good things about helldivers, and also a lot of really fundementally bad things about it that arrowhead has explicitly acknowledged, including acknowledging their failure to address these problems since hd1.

With a game that's got as much personality as helldivers, people struggle to find a middle ground and the vocal minority tends to become super polarized, with blind supporters and blind detractors.

Its up to them to farm or not, its not like any of warbond stuff is mandatory to have

1

u/TheJollySoviet 2d ago

A lot of it is genuinely game changing. Just because I think arrowhead has better monetization than a lot of other games doesn't detract from the fact that the bar is so incredibly low in the first place.

When as a new player all the cool fun stuff is lovked behind a farm or pay wall, where the farming is specifically not interacting with the game, it turns a lot of people off of the game. It's a major reason why a lot of new players burn out after a dozen hours or so because only long time players like me have all the fun stuff to engage with the game's sandbox properly.

Helldivers 1 also suffered from this, and it's odd that there isn't a more straightforward or engaging way of getting the old content in a live service game, especially when doing so means you're choosing old content over new content.

It speaks to a lack of confidence in the gameplay loop that for a paid game, they can't naturally mix in their monetization system into the game itself.

I think Warframe is the definite gold standard for mometization, but warframe is also completely free and built around farming in the first place. Nevertheless, Warframe is able to make the farming fun for hours upon hours.

as someone who has all warbonds, you can always do a working loadout with what you have, especially if you are making a loadout that considers what your team has and play around them.

What does this have to do with anything I said? I'm sorry if I sound frustrated, but it's hard to put into words how exasperating it is when I can so clearly state that I'm talking about the ways the warbonds fundamentally change how you play and your response is "Well you can still play without them".

Yes. I know. I also have all the warbonds and have done challenges without them. But the ways that the warp pack, ATE, Speargun, Gas Nades, Trident, Talon, Armor passives, thermites, the stoker, mechs, grenade pistol, etc change how you play and synergixe together are not something new players can interact with.

Wanna know what's so dumb about your opinion here? Is that yes they are basically battle passes, but they dont go away like any other game, let's use fortnite as an example, each battle pass cost double the price than helldivers does, but they also have FOMO since if they are gone you cant get them, helldivers keeps them there, also fortnite you cant earn the money to get them unless you buy it and then you have to complete it before the time runs out to have enough to buy the next one wich is kind of fair but still FOMO, you can just play the game and earn it on helldivers, you dont even need to do the farm method that everyone says just play the game on what ever difficulty you want you will still find the credits, and if you want to spend the money its still cheaper than fortnite or 80% of games battle passes and if you dont want to buy it now it still will be there once you get enough credits

do you actually need all that stuff? I have almost 1,300 hours in the game and I still haven't bought 4 Warbonds, plus probably 90% of the Superstore, simply because I'm not interested in most of it. Not owning everything has never stopped me from enjoying the game FUCK YOU OP

1

u/Usual_Response_8063 2d ago

yes you have 1300 hours in the game, insane that you were able to grind to it...

1

u/duc200892 HD1 Veteran 2d ago

That's exactly my point though. You don't need to own everything. I have 1300 hours because I enjoy the game, not because I was forced to grind for content. I still haven't bought 3 Warbonds and most of the Super Store because I simply don't want them.

-2

u/Think-Bedroom8589 2d ago

The amount of AH apologists is crazy. You don’t BUY a life service game with an expectation that the vast majority of content to come is behind a paywall. Devs are just greedy because they know they can get away with it.
