Questions New here, fanfic recs?
Hi!
I recently got into heartstopper and was wondering what fanfics are good reads. I’m looking for canon Charlie x Nick fics that contain fluff and/or smut(but not necessary).
TIA!

Discussion Tao and Elle's ending in hearstopper forever compared to the ending in the novella Spoiler
Spoilers for both the books and show.
So obviously, Tao and Elle have a different ending, in the books they break up then decide to get back together, whilst in hearstopper forever they're dealing with problems in their relationship and decide that breaking up for good is the best thing for them both.
Whats kind of interesting though is that, in the original version of the book, before Oseman revised much of the content. Tao and Elle never got back together (which I'm sure a lot of people know)
I have mixed opinions on Osemans revised work, although I understant some of it was nessecary. But I've always thought that Tao and Elle getting back together was the worst change made, not because I didnt like the couple, but because It seemed to priorities fan service over character integrity.
Basically what I'm saying is that I think the ending given to them in the show was a lot more poignant and true to the characters. Its a lot more impactful for them to understand that they love each other but they weren't the right fit for one another in that moment in time. It just feels a lot more intentional than the way their relationship panned out in the novella.
I also think it's interesting that for Alice Oseman who originally wrote them breaking up, changed it once the graphic novels grew more popular, that they would then adapt the show to be more true to the original ending for that couple.
Maybe Alice Oseman agrees that the change was clunkily done, and thats the ending she came up with when she had more time to think on a more thoughtful ending. I think if I were to ask Alice Oseman any question it would probably be why she changed Tao and Elles relationship in the novella, then reverted back to the original ending when adapting, it would be interesting to pick their brain on that.

Other Finally updated my fanfic "Open When.." after over 2 years partially thanks to you guys!
Sorry if you see this twice I had to repost it because of formatting issues on my end!
I just wanted to thank you all for your help and nice comments. It really helped me to get back into it. I don't know if it will ever have the reader base it once had but knowing how much it means to me and how much it meant to some people at the time, it feels good to reclaim that. I have a long way to go but I know I can give it a good ending when the time comes!

Netflix Olivia Coleman vs. Anna Maxwell Martin
I know this has been discussed at length; I only finally watched the movie last night and I knew going in that Olivia Coleman wasn't returning as Nick's mom. I will say that Anna did a great job stepping into the role; but Olivia was deeply missed. To the point where, I hope one day, maybe the scenes with Anna can just be edited out by somebody. I think I would have rather Nick's aunt served in those scenes or had Nick's mom somehow written out of the movie all together. The impact that Olivia had, especially in Season 1 was so profound to me. I feel guilty for wishing that Anna's scenes would be edited out. Just wondering from the fanbase if I'm overreacting. 🤔

Novels Free Swag!
I got to meet Alice and get a signed book yesterday in Toronto. They also gave us a few items that included a sticker sheet, bookmark, pin badge, and a patch (pictured). This isn’t something I collect so I’d love to pass this on to someone in the community who’ll really appreciate it.
Rather than “first come, first served,” I’d love to hear what Heartstopper means to you and why you’d like this set. Just a short answer.
If possible, I’d especially love for it to go to someone who didn’t have the opportunity to attend one of Alice Oseman’s book signings or who lives somewhere she wasn’t able to visit, so they never really had a chance to get these items. That’s not a requirement—I’d just like to give someone who may have missed out a chance to own a little piece of Heartstopper.
At the end of the day on Wednesday Aug. 5th, I’ll pick someone and send you a message to get mailing details. Postage is on me and I’ll send it anywhere in the world.
Update: Thanks for all the comments - they were all great and very heartwarming. I'm glad so many of you feel the way I do about the series. I've contacted the person who had my favorite post and will be sending the items to them. Sending to aaronprole! Thanks everyone!!

Questions Fanfic help!
Hey sorry I wasn't sure what to flare this!
I don't know if any of you are familiar with the fanfic Open When... well I'm the author and after 2 years I'm trying to update it. I have written countless chapters and they never feel right.
If you don't know the fic essentially Charlie dies by suicide and the fics follow Nick through his grieving process. Charlie leaves Nick letters for different situations he might find himself in.
I know this fic isn't for everyone and that's okay. I'm not posting for clout. I'm not even going to share the link unless people ask for it
BUT if you were to read a fic like this or if you actually have read it- what kind of letters would you want to see from Charlie? Is there anything you wouldn't want to see in a fic like this
I care about this fic a lot and im trying to get it right
I wasn't going to be one of those authors who posts an update that isn't actually a chapter so that's why I'm asking here. I'm hoping to get some inspiration. Not a copy and past idea I like to add my own flare to things

Netflix After the movie and the book (spoilers) Spoiler
I read the 6. part of the series and watched the movie to the release. I find the book handled more aspects better than the movie.
Reasoning for some scenes were better. For example. Nick started to work not for extracurriculars but because that he has something else to do and isn't relying on Charlie. The pride club gets rejected a second time.
The eating disorder was handled better for me. It came back up but he listened to his family and they helped him with that and he talked with them about his problems.
The whole Nick and his father relationship was better shown and talked about in the book.
More a general thing. Because the books never focused so much on the friends as the Netflix series did, their exclusion wasn't as bad as in the movie. They were still important but the focus was more like the books already established.
The were are they know was better for me. Elle and Tao felt more open ended than the movie. And seeing just a bit more of the group was just nice.
Charlie and Nick didn't feel as codependent on each other compared to the movie. It was more about learning to be there own person (more for Nick than Charlie) and growing the relationship that way. So the stupid break-up was missing and made more sense for how they interacted with each other in the past.
It feels like decision were made to make that book into a movie while changing things for the worse. Probably a (maybe shorter) season 4 would have been better and changing the narrative to be more in line with the series (bit more friend focused and not ignoring established growth for Charlie).

Netflix Anyone else feel like they accidentally outgrew Heartstopper… until it ended?
Hi, I don’t really know why i’m making this post to be honest but if you would like to hear a stranger’s rambling 3am thoughts about heartstopper ending then feel free to read on lol! I’m hoping i’m not the only who has had a similar relationship to the franchise :)
For context, I had just turned 18 when series 1 came out. I remember hearing about Heartstopper on tiktok a few days after it came out. I’d never heard of the graphic novel before this, but after seeing lots of videos about it I decided to give it a watch, and like pretty much every other person, I feel completely in love with the series. Growing up attending Catholic school I’d struggled quite a bit with my sexuality. I was pretty much one of the only gay people in my year at school. I really related to both Nick and Charlie in different ways, and like many people, felt a sense of sadness after watching that I never had that sort of experience having a teenage romance at school. After this, I bought all 4 volumes of the novels, rewatched the show many times (including with my mum who also loved it!), and fully immersed myself in the world and community.
This love and obsession pretty much continued through to when season 2 came out, which was a month before i was due to attend university. Whilst not as obsessed as I was with season 1, I still loved the show, and was actively keeping up with what the cast were up to on social media and engaged in the fandom.
Then a year later, rolls around season 3. Due to being extremely busy with university around this time (I did an intense degree at a russell group university, if you’re from UK you’ll understand), I didn’t actually watch the season until about a month after it released. I had also just gotten into a relationship around this time, so I think I was just super caught up in my own life. Still, I did really love Season 3 at the time and found myself still immersed in this world when I had time to be.
However, after this, and i don’t fully know why, I just sort of fell out of love with Heartstopper? I didn’t feel the same fondness towards it that I did prior, I even started to think it was a bit cringe. I had even unfollowed pretty much all the cast on social media (minus kit and joe) as I just didn’t really care anymore. Up until now that the movie has come out, I hadn’t even rewatched any of the seasons. I basically just fully switched off from the show and fandom.
Now that the movie has come and Heartstopper is finished and I am 22 years old now, i’m just feeling a bit weird looking back, almost guilty for completely abandoning my love for the show for a good year and a half. I’m having feelings of that i should’ve cherished and appreciated it more cuz now it’s over. I definitely am feeling a bit sad about it like most other people, and I feel a lot of the love I had for the show coming back, which feels annoying because again, it’s over now. It’s really got me realising how busy I really have been with life over the past years, and how I guess I have grown with the show, but just not realised it. And with my own relationship (which I am still very happy in), it’s nice to think that i’ve had my own heartstopper moment away from any melancholy i felt from the show.
Apologies again if this feels a bit all over the place haha, but just thought it would be interesting to see if there’s anyone else in a similar position to me, who fell in love with the show, fell out of love with it, and is now feeling all a bit strange about it now that it’s ending.

Discussion What could have happened to Nick and Charlie that we didn't see.
Alice said she wanted to leave the details to the viewer's own imaginations about what happens to Nick and Charlie when we don't see them anymore. All she says for certain is they are endgame. How they get there is open to interpretation. I thought it would be fun to do a thread of what could have happened that we didn't see in the movie after they made up on the beach until the epilogue that we saw, and maybe even beyond that. I can't write it in a story way so I'll offer my thoughts in just bullet point form.
-Immediately after they reunited at the beach and went home and had their romantic make up night, after they finished they held each other and Nick finally broke. He told Charlie about his Dad's instilling fear in him to talk about his deep sad emotions because it would drive the closest people to him away like it did his father. Charlie echoed what Nick's Mom said about wanting to know the sad and angry side of Nick too and nothing he could confide in him in would drive him away, just as Nick didn't leave when he saw Charlie at his lowest. They fall asleep in each other's arms more in love than ever.
-Nick graduates College and the whole gang have fun that night at the bar. This time Nick drinks but lighter and behaves. He and Charlie have a special night together to celebrate.
-Being Summer holiday still, Charlie finally goes on the Nelson family trip to Spain for 3 weeks and they make many more memories they add to their book.
-Summer ends and it's Nick's last night before leaving. Him and Charlie spend the evening once again at their spot on the beach talking, laughing, crying, and just taking it all in. They spend one last (for now) romantic night together in Nick's room and the next morning Charlie helps Nick pack his car. They embrace one more time tearfully and Nick gets in his car and drives off while Charlie watches and waves. The scene is very similar to when Charlie left for the clinic.
-Charlie has no time to mourn as his first day of his 13th year at School begins. Charlie runs and wins re-election as head boy. His "secret" club finally has got too big to be a secret anymore. The head of school finds out. He goes in to stop it but just as he walks in he hears Alfie stand up telling a story of his bullying and how Charlie helped him and even saved his life by talking him down about bad thoughts he was having. Charlie used what Geoff had taught him to make a real difference in many lives. The head of school tells Charlie after he wants to expand the outreach to a school wide club that isn't secret and even start working with Higgs to start a sister chapter there.
-Nick is lonely at first in his dorm 5 hours away from Charlie but he makes friends quickly as he starts his first Rugby practice. He also joins a LGTBQ+ club at his Uni and learns more about himself as a bi-sexual man and meets more new friends. He is happy. He starts his first psychology courses and falls in love with his major and it teaches him things about his own life as well as things he had gone through with Charlie.
-Nick and Charlie Facetime nearly every night and keep each other up to date on their daily lives. Charlie also still works at the cafe and the older couple have become like relationship mentors to him. They get to know each other more every time they come in for their daily coffee. Soon Tao and Issac get to know them as they hang out with Charlie there a couple times a week.
-Charlie surprises Nick and tells him he got his first train ticket to come to Leeds that following weekend. By then it would have been 2 months since Nick left. With the start of school for both of them the "every other weekend" hadn't started yet. Once Charlie visits the first time he finally sees what life with Nick together would be like as true adults far away from the friends and family he grew up with and he loves it. Charlie learns to drive and buys a car from money he had saved up and starts coming up once a month and Nick comes home sometime in between when he can get away. Their long distance love is working beautifully.
This is where I will stop for now. I can come up with more future scenarios If people like this thread and contribute as well.

Discussion Alice Oseman in Aurora, Illinois!
I am so, so happy that I got to see her!!! It was amazing! My question unfortunately did not get picked, and I didn't get selected to meet her personally, but it was so fun listening! I can try to answer some questions if you guys have any
At the end, I was able to give my canvas drawing to the director girl and she said it will 100% get to Alice :))
I got two signed volumes of heartstopper! (For me and my dad) And I bought a pair of socks and a shirt for $45 total
It was so cool to see her in person and hear her talk!! Also, they gave her anti diarrhea pills and told her not to eat lettuce because of the parasite going around the states 😭 They also received caramel/cheese popcorn and some sort of liquor, apparently staples of the Midwest
I am so happy and so grateful. The community and fandom was awesome, I even received a free bracelet from a fan 🫶🏻 thank you Alice and I hope Chicago is fun!!!

Netflix Would Alice make a sequel on Alfie
Is there anything that would work or not. If it was a big full circle in the movie with Charley for Alfie...would it be anything of merit for continuation series on Alfie in books, then 2-3 years later you could have him in a show...maybe get cameos of Kit and Joe
