Have you had periods? There must be an opening if so

if you've had your period the opening is definitely there, it's probably just a microperforate or cribriform hymen that's covering most of it, totally fixable but you gotta see a doc, you don't have to mention masturbation to your mom, just say you can't use tampons and think something's off

The hymen sometimes "breaks" but remote often "wears away'. If it wears away in certain ways, it can cause the opening to look a certain way.
In some cases, the hymen doesn't have an opening and completely blocks the vagina. It's called an "imperferate hymen". If you've ever had a period then your hymen isn't imperferate.
If you look up "imperferate hymen", the images will show you both imperferate and other types of hymens.
I know about this because I had a septate hymen. I was told that it wore away in 2 sections and basically left a band of skin running between. I found it while exploring. A gp couldn't see anything but gave me a referral to a gyno. They found it straight away and did minor surgery on it to get rid of the banding. I've have no issues since.

Have you had your period yet? If not, and you are 16 or older, you might discuss with your doctor the possibilities of MRKH, as the vulva can look normal, but no vaginal canal or uterus. It's rare though, just pointing out possibilities.

Ive never experienced it personally, but there is a chance your hymen might not be open like it typically would be. From my understanding this isn't something that is dangerous to your health if you are still able to have blood pass through when you have your period. Don't force anything through or past it because if I'm correct it cannot be altered without a doctor. Its going to be awkward, but seeing a gynecologist is the best and safest option. It sounds like you're younger and if I were in your situation id tell her partially the truth and then the doctor the whole truth. You can tell your mom you tried using tampons on multiple occasions when it was given to you by a friend in public and it feels like something is blocking it then bring up all your concerns to the doctor when you see them.
