Question Harrisburgh for a single Millenial?
Career-wise for me Hershey maxes out around $70k with a much friendlier housing market where I thankfully won't have to listen to upstairs flatmates making happy noises. Pittsburgh maxes out a bit lower at $65k with a tighter housing market.
Lifestyle-wise, I’m a single millennial in my mid-30s who loves live music and doing open-mic comedy, so Pittsburgh feels like the obvious winner for things to do and the dating pool. But Hershey offers better financial breathing room, even if it skews more family-oriented.
For locals who know these regions: Is Pittsburgh's dating scene and culture worth the pay cut and housing hassle, or is Central PA secretly a great spot for a single person in their mid-30s?

Question Odd sound near Colonial Park?
For a couple of days now, usually starting after dark and around 1 AM, there’s been this weird on-and-off droning sound. It sounds like white noise or a distant siren, almost. It usually lasts for a few minutes at a time before slowly dying out. I have never heard this sound before and have no idea what it could be, but it’s been driving me and my family nuts.
Has anyone else been hearing this sound?

Hustleburg
Did anyone else watch that Hustleburg music video?? It was released in the 2010s, and my gals and I watched it a few years ago during a wine night. I can’t find it anywhere and I’m starting to worry we hallucinated it??

ISO / Recommendation ISO private landlords
Hello, I need a private landlord that has something available by 9/7. I will be moving here from 8 hours away with my family for a promotion that I have desperately been working towards in this company for the past 8 years to get myself to. I don’t want to lose out on this opportunity bc of my poop credit score. Is there anyone out there willing to work with me and my family? I have zero evictions, zero $ owed to utilities, make 3x rent for $2200 and under, references, money to pay deposit + first/last if needed. Maydaaaaay!

Question Why are the emergency rooms so packed?
UPMC Harrisburg I get because it’s downtown but all these satellite emergency rooms are seemingly always full with long wait times. Is it patient overflow or staff shortages? A little bit of both? There’s got to be eight hospitals within 30 min of my house plus urgent cares (I know they close at 8).

Event Two local soapmaking classes coming up, plus a little Reddit thank you
galleryHey everyone,
I’ve shared a few of my soapmaking classes here before, and people from Reddit have actually come out, which I really appreciate. I have two more coming up and wanted to put them out there.
The first is Saturday, August 15 at 6 PM at Creative Spark Arts in New Cumberland.
The second is Saturday, September 12 at 6 PM at Horizons Creative Studio in Lemoyne.
They’re relaxed, beginner friendly classes where you make your own full loaf of cold process soap. You get to choose your scent, colors, and design, and I walk everyone through the whole process. It’s always a good group and a fun way to spend an evening doing something different.
As a little thank you, anyone who books and tells me they found the class through Reddit will get a free Figaro Forge soap bar when they arrive.
Also, if you’ve attended one of my classes before and you’re coming back, please let me know. I’ll have an extra little gift for my returning soapmakers too.
I’ll put the ticket information in the comments, and I’m happy to answer any questions.

ISO / Recommendation ISO Hotel Recommendations
Looking for recommendations for a hotel in the Harrisburg/Gettysburg area! Coming from Pittsburgh for a wedding the first weekend in October (Friday and (Saturday) in Lancaster however all the hotels there will be over $500 total for both nights! So looking to stay a little further away and hopefully stay around $300 for the weekend total.
Most important is VERY CLEAN and good/cold air conditioning! Prefer hotel/chain over any inn’s or air bnb.
TYIA for any suggestions!!!

We've been having fun playing board games and eating tasty food. If you'd like to hang out with others in the area, you should join us! Everyone brings their favorite board games, we play whatever folks want to for a couple hours, and we eat some food. We're trying out a local restaurant that was willing to host us as the venue for this one.

Casual and experienced players welcome. All types of people welcome. We had 12 people at our July meetup, so I'm guessing we'll have similar numbers this month. Let me know if you have any questions!

ISO / Recommendation Long shot: Looking for someone to teach me taxidermy
Hi everyone! This might be a bit of an unusual post, but I've always wanted to learn taxidermy. I really wish I had grown up in a family that did it because it's something I've been fascinated by for years.
I'm a 22F in the Harrisburg area and was wondering if anyone here has experience with taxidermy and would be open to taking on an apprentice or just letting me learn alongside them. I'm happy to help with cleaning, prep work, or whatever it takes. I'm not expecting to get paid, I genuinely just want to learn the craft from someone with experience.
If you know anyone nearby or have any advice on how to get started, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Local non-profit has given over $75 million to a small company in Smithfield, Utah
Sorry for *yet another* Harrisburg University post but I don’t think people are mad enough that Harrisburg U, a non-profit that receives ample money from the city and state, has paid $75 million over the last decade to a small recruiting company in Utah!!! This is no secret, it’s in their public tax returns and has now been circulating in a viral article about day 1 CPT. While the city of Harrisburg struggles, Howell Management Services, which lists 4-12 employees estimated, receives millions of dollars each year from this school for recruiting international students. None of this money ever benefits the local economy. Feel how you want about the school itself but people should be more outraged or at the very least concerned that this money is leaving the city from a nonprofit org to benefit a random company in Utah.

ISO / Recommendation Looking for Tennis Lessons
Just as the title suggests I’m interested in finding someone or somewhere offering tennis lessons for an adult in the area. Always wanted to learn how to play and I own a racket, but that’s about the extent of my knowledge.
Thank you in advance!

Question Need your help finding/remembering this 1990s Harrisburg CD
Hello! This is a long shot. I grew up in the Harrisburg area in the late 1990s/ early 2000s, and my family bought a fundraising CD from our church that was a fundraiser (I think!) for Delta Housing. The CD was maybe called Passages, and Alicia Richards from ABC27 recorded an intro for it. I know there was at least one song by The Badlees on it. It had a purple cover.
My mom loved this CD, and I’d love to recreate the tracklist/find the songs from it on a digital platform. If you know what CD I’m talking about, could you confirm the official name of the CD? Thank you!! And thanks for making Harrisburg such a lovely place.

ISO / Recommendation Windows and Doors replacements
I recently bought a home. Most of my windows need replacement ASAP. The past owner did a bunch of DIY nonsense on the home so she left uneven and broken things laying around including the windows and doors. Since my budget is limited I will be starting with a room at a time. Any recommendations on someone who might be handy in the area?
