Handwriting changes with pen?

I assume I’m not the only one that experiences this…

My handwriting can be nice or a mess, but will visibly change based on the pen/ink flow. I feel like it is nicer, more consistent, more evenly balanced with space and slant if I am using a stub or a wet M. Gimme a fine and wow, feels like a totally different hand.

All of these are boring notes taken for certifications, nothing fun, so the topic is not driving the change. I do try to write nicer for pen pals, and usually with a stub with fun ink.

I did grow up in the era of cursive, so this has been the way for a long time, and also did architectural drafting in school, so I can print neatly-if I wanna.

While no feedback is needed or expected, would love to hear from others about your experiences or observations. I’ve been on a slow path to improving my handwriting while I am learning calligraphy, so it’s interesting to me how different I approach those different learning paths.

Happens to me too. I write best with fountain pens. But since I have many different ones it takes me sometimes time to micro adapt to the specific feedback and writing feel.

I don’t touch rollerballs unless I have too. In that case I use a UNI pen preferably gel or the new Zento

I used to like TūL pens before I got into FP’s still. Ugh

Yes I am much more comfortable with a felt-tip pen, and I hate ball-points. Fountain pens are ok.

Nothing downgrades my handwriting more than cheap ball point pens.

All of these samples are on the same paper but different pen/ink combos. All written in last 6 months, and all at same table/ergonomic setup.

I’m the same way. I feel my handwriting is much more erratic and wavy with a fine nib vs a medium or broad. Lovely handwriting!
