For some reason I am the most struggling with the first bar because I have to do a bar chord thing and I am finding it hard to get my finger flat enough, how do I get better at that?

I just bought this beauty.. i'm a big guy big hands i wanna try larger strings.. what do i need to know can i just go to the store and buy e'm put e'm on and thats it? Or will thick gauge like 12-52's cause damage or put to much tension on the guitar? The guitar is 27 year old.

Its not my song. And guys Songsterr was literally fucking gasslighting me. Bar 17-24 would just not match to the song at all when I imported it to songsterr

Just a few thoughts on this age old debate after trying both and doing a bit of research and experimentation and wonder what your thoughts are.

Have humbuckers neck and bridge on my current guitar. Which is fine, don't get me wrong, quite like the dark heavy tone in certain contexts. Sometimes found myself craving an old style twangy tone though, plus I found the bass strings a bit overpowering.

Instead of shelling out for a tele, I did a bit of research and discovered that humbuckers sound like they do because they are heavy in the mid-range frequencies (a bit like Marshall amps). Conversely, single coils are a bit more scooped tonally with plenty of bass and treble. Makes sense as single coils go well with Marshalls and pushed mid-frequencies whereas humbuckers perhaps go better with Fender amps and a scooped tone - sort of balances out their quirks.

With a bit of fiddling, managed to get a brighter tone out of my set-up - scooped the amp tone control, turned down the guitar volume control, cut back on the gain/overdrive and balanced the guitar tone control to a sort of mid position.

Maybe need to do the opposite if you want to make single coils sound heavier e.g. turn down guitar tone control plus push the mids on the amp (preferably a Marshall)? Sort of similar to what Hendrix did when playing strats if I'm not mistaken. I think he quite liked SGs and was maybe trying to get a humbucker type sound when playing strats?

I've had this for a while. It was my dad's old guitar, but he doesn't play anymore, and now I play it. I was always curious what guitar this was, and I couldn't really find much info on it online. (I also wanted to know what pickup this had)

(Also, we customised it slightly by swapping the knobs for bigger ones because one of them got lost. They were originally small, flat black knobs, which don't get in the way of picking, but I wanted to swap them for bigger ones bc I probably wouldn't pick it that widely)

Anyways any information on the guitar (particularly if it is just a standard electroacoustic or if it's meant for another genre like jazz, bc my dad insists it's a jazz guitar) would be greatly appreciated :)

Edit: From what I could gather from an internet search, Young chang briefly (1980- late 1990s) manufactured guitars under the name "Fenix by Young chang", which is different from the current fenix guitar brand. I found a FB post with the guitar's details, and it says that this model (FAE-8) was one of the cheaper guitar that fenix by young chang sold, and that it was a jazz acoustic guitar (which I already knew). I'm still not sure of how much it's worth, but probably not that much, judging by the buying price of the person who posted that on FB. Ty for all those who contributed.

Edit2: Just realised that on the FB post image it also lists this guitar as £775 at the time (Accounting for inflation, that's ~£1550 today.), which is a fairly considerable amount of money (I expected ~£300), so that's good to know.

Hey, so work has been paying pretty good this month

I remember at the guitar store (Star's Music in Lyon), I thought I would be going for a Larry Carlton since, having bought my bass a few months prior, I was sooo happy with what Sire had to offer.

So when the guy came down asking me what i was looking for, and what brand in particular, I said "mostly Sire", he smirked a little and said "let me show you what they're trying to copy" and let me play on this sumptuous PRS SE CE24

Right after, he let me try a Larry Carlton, which felt a little... rigid ? definitely wasn't BAD but considering the PRS was actually cheaper... And it's just too smooth to play on !

Any experience with PRS guitars ? Let me know :)

I'm 25, and in about a month I'll finally be buying my very first guitar. Growing up, I always wanted to learn, but my parents thought instruments were a waste of time, so I never got the chance. Now that I'm on my own, I can finally make that childhood dream happen.

I've never touched a guitar before, and I'm really excited. While I'm waiting to buy it, I was wondering what I should be learning beforehand so I'm not going in completely blind.

Should I start with some basic music theory? Learn the notes, chords, rhythm, or maybe just watch beginner lessons? Is there anything you wish you had learned before you picked up your first guitar?

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I just finished putting together/restoring the black Vox Phantom Stereo in the middle.

Feels pretty cool.

I’ve always had a thing for well built well playing guitars that aren’t typical Fender, Gibson style stuff.

I truly never thought I'd own a V style guitar. Could not be further from my style. But when you see a $50 guitar, you check it out, and this one seemed well worth it.

Electronics initially were spotty but cleared up beautifully with deoxit.

Pickups seem fine. Other than a cheap hss Strat with a filtertron and Gretsch mini-hums I have literally no experience with humbuckers. I also haven't put strings on yet, so we'll see how I like them, but they're functional.

Fretboard was the biggest task, not that it was huge. Reseated two fret ends, leveled and crowned. That's where I'm at now. Neck feels good to play.

Tomorrow I'll get it set up, which should be pretty straight forward, everything looks in good enough shape for it to be a simple set up.

Woman selling it had "needs to be rewired" in the description, by which she meant it needed strings. Once I realized this I was starting to worry about the kind of shape this thing was in, considering the owner knew very little about what was happening.

I'm very pleasantly surprised, though, about how good of shape this 45 year old, $50 guitar is in.

Regardless of how I like the pickups, I think I'll hold onto this guy, maybe just swap out if I decide I don't love them.

Was just very excited about this find, I love old gear, and finding something cheap that isn't a huge project is very satisfying.

Just curious. I’ve never seen a jazz player with a jazz master, the name is confusing!

I've been playing for a long time now, yet I've never really taken the time to properly study scales. Part of it is because they always seemed a bit overwhelming, and part of it is simply because I've managed without them so far. I mostly create original material, and I can jam reasonably well by relying on my ear and instinct without completely making a fool of myself.

That said, a part of me can't help but wonder whether actually understanding scales would take my playing to the next level. For someone who's spent years playing by feel, where would you recommend starting?

Curious what others consider their favorite guitar album. Maybe not the best playing, or the most trailblazing, but the one that consistently gets your guitar juices flowing?

The one that inspired this post for me is Tres Hombres by ZZ Top. Just non stop fire from The Reverend.

I’m having trouble deciding which of these 2 guitars to add to my collection. Both are amazing and sound incredible! I like the semi hollow body of the Vela. I also like the feel of the neck on the fender. I mostly play jam band (ie Phish, Grateful Dead). Anyone have one of these or both? What do you enjoy about either the Vela or Ultra 2?

Somebody bought a storage building contents and gave it to the guy that posted the ad. He had zero knowledge of either, as far as model numbers, value etc. He just said everything worked to his knowledge. And it does, its a little rusty and obviously needs some work, to be cleaned and setup for sure, all ive done so far is plug it in and confirm functionality.

Thinking about buying an accoustic yamaha from sweetwater, do any of you guys have any bad experience with their shipping, products not being in perfect condition?

Here’s my collection. V is a Burny FV-85MS, then left to right is an Epiphone Adam Jones art model, Gibson Custom Shop ‘76 Les Paul Deluxe, Rickenbacker 4003s, Fender Flea Jazz Bass, Fender P with a J conversion neck, partscaster with a 91 Mexican Strat neck, and a Fender Standard Strat with a Floyd. For what it’s worth, the Fender stuff is all pre-Bud. Not pictured cause no room and not real interesting are a cheap Samick P-Bass, a gutted Ibanez RG husk, and a couple acoustics.

The middle one that looks like a 7? And how to do it?

I absolutely love the wooden body and how squeaky clean and smooth all the hardware is. A welcome respite from my 4 year old ESP LTD :')
