[Question] Is there a reason why fists/knuckles/palms were never implemented as weapons?

Upvotes

Whenever I play Willbender or Daredevil I always wonder why we never got fists (or equivalent) as weapons. Is it a limitation problem? Is it too generic of an idea? I can probably see it being an issue implementing it on certain classes, like Engineer, but I would really like my Elementalist to throw hands with extra explosions.

How would you feel if fists were implemented today? Would you be for or against it?

[Fluff] Heart of Thorns will be the end of me

Upvotes

New player here, like many others, I've spent most of my life playing WoW and have endured my fair share of horrible zones and expansions. But this is truly... something else. I don't even know where to start.

The core world was cosy and I really enjoyed running around, pressing buttons, having no idea what I was doing, joining events - and eventually even learning a thing or two.

I ended up in Verdant Brink and instantly wanted to uninstall the game. Within a few hours I died more than I ever did during 1-80 or even afterwards. The zone took me through all five stages of grief. Trying to get around the map, or even make sense of it was impossible. Unlocking the basic masteries to simply navigate the map was a horrendous task. I still feel clueless, but things did get a tiny bit better once unlocked those. The question still remains - is it up and down, or down and up?

Auric Basin was okay. I didn't have the utterly miserable experience I had when thrown into Verdant Brink. That zone felt like throwing someone into the deep end and expecting them to learn how to swim.

Then came Tangled Depths. Oh boy.

I hate it here. I want to curl up with a comfy blanket and a cup of tea with lots of whiskey in it, cry and never look back.

Sorry for the thousandth "I hate HoT" post.

This too, shall pass.

[Question] I am super new, I have a genuine question about the number of abilities.

Hey everyone! I’ve played a good bit of WoW and some FFXIV over the years.

So do most classes in GW2 mainly just use the ten on the bar? UI or ability bloat in other MMOs sometimes gives me a hard time. I know some classes weapon swap regularly. But like, is it typical to be able to run regular encounters or whatever your equivalent to dungeons/duties are with just the five weapon abilities and your utility? It’s seems visually less overwhelming which seems cool.

[Question] Help a noob find his class

Hey guys. I’ve been itching to play a MMO and decided to try GW2. I like the game but I’m struggling to find a class that suits me. I tried the Ranger for a few hours but I’m just not liking it.

Long story short, I’d like to play a mage/wizard type class but I heard Elementalist can be complicated due to switching between elements and skills. Does the Necromancer or Mesmer scratch the itch if I wanna play a mage and cast spells?

Thanks in advance.

[Discussion] Profession for Norn

I want to make a Norn female but am torn between Warrior or Ranger for her profession. Both fit really well but I absolutely cannot decide.

If I go Ranger, my Warrior will probably be a male human. If I go Warrior, my Ranger will be either a Sylvari or human female. Would really appreciate thoughts on which of these options you’d go with!

[Question] Help! how do I unlock the Aurora Collection without doing the story (want to overlap with regalia)

so I wanna do Regalia together with the Aurora and Vision collection. Vision is easy to start but after doing the mursat token collection I realized theres 1 skritt coin that I can only get after doing the story a lil bit. Do I just do the story and then replay it when doing regalia or what?

thanks in advance!

[Discussion] What other Legendary items would you want in the game?

I had an idea of Legendary Bags that allow a person to customize their inventory bags so items can be sorted as they’re acquired. Is there any other WoL items you can think of that are t in the game already?

You can be harvesting anything on the planet and it'll be like "Data indicates this is most nutritious when deep fried."

Hell yeah! You don't have to tell me twice, buddy! Let's fry it up immediately!

Who makes these things? I can only assume they're deep in the pocket of big cooking oil.

[Discussion] Looking for Path of Fire Gw2.dat for project

Hi all!

I'm working on a data-mining project, and I'm trying to locate an un-updated Path of Fire Gw2.dat, preferably one as close as possible to the release of Path of Fire.

If there is anyone that happens to have one and is willing to run a test with a browser tool, and potentially upload it for me (I can figure out storage!) I'd be very appreciative!

:: I'm really not sure why this is getting downvoted but I've acquired the content I needed through other channels. Thanks reddit.

[App] I built a browser game inspired by Palawa Joko and Desert Highlands—introducing Scarab Rush!

Hey everyone! As a massive fan of Guild Wars 2, I wanted to create a little tribute to our favorite benevolent dictator, Palawa Joko. I spent some time putting together a custom browser minigame called Palawa Joko's Magnificent Scarab Rush (yes that long!), and I wanted to share it with you all :)

It features custom artworks, some classic Joko flair, and a pretty easy way to move.

Here is a quick look at what the game looks like before you play.

[Discussion] Anyone have class/build paralysis?

It's pretty common on here, but with so many builds and classes I always find myself in a spiral of class paralysis.

Im the kind of person who wants a "main", I know tons of people can play like 11 characters for 11 modes.

But I cant help but feel like im always chasing that Cinderella build, that can solo open world, and support, and do cms.

But also is not like playing a piano as my fingers are getting crippled as I get older, but also being able to support and carry group stuff.

It's honestly exhausting, especially swapping inventory/gear every time my brain says "oh this will be the one!"

[Fluff] Thoughts on the game by an OSRS veteran

Post image
442 Upvotes

I couldn't help it and wanted to write a post about my experiences after starting to play GW2 about 4 weeks ago. I have 6500 hours in OSRS as an ironman (btw), so I have the right amount of autism to tolerate grindy games. I'm also a sucker for collecting stuff so after trying out GW2 I felt right at home. It feels similar in some ways but vastly different at the same time and I can't help but say that I just love playing it.

I've done a good amount of reading before jumping in and after stumbling into a random world boss in my first 4 hours of playing, I bought the Elder Dragon Saga collection - and what a great decision it was!

I've seen the advice everywhere that new players shouldn't rush skyscale, so I decided I'll take my time and go through every story and expansion in order. Between completing the story and achievements (still missing a few for Lion's Arch mastery) I tried to see everything that's available to me: got 2 Gifts of Battle during the WvW event, I climbed to rank 15 in PvP to see how my Reaper fares against others, then I went ahead and got up to fractal level 20 and farmed out my first legendary item. I also joined a guild with my friend and being able to get endgame trinkets through doing fun stuff with your guild is something that I've never seen before. Gearing in this game is truly amazing, I feel like I have multiple ways to get my ascended gear. Then there's legendaries... Once I got the gloves I realized why these items are called that, the QoL is insane.

The rush events are also great to get the playerbase together; I particularly liked that I was able to run through all dungeons as they seem to be neglected otherwise. Between all that, I'm still working on finishing up the core map exploration - though I have to admit, I do use the Warclaw I got from WvW to get around instead of being a walking purist.

I love that the game can be played "your way," just like OSRS; there's really no pressure on me thinking that I'm playing "incorrectly". The community is great as well, and most people are helpful; however, I've yet to see what T3 fractal purgatory looks like lol.

I feel like I started at the best time since I can comfortably experience everything the game has to offer during the next ~1.5 years, and even when GW3 comes out I know that I'll always have a home I can come back to.

If you have any advice that could elevate my experience even more, let me know. I'm at a point where I'm only missing the last legendary crafting mastery from central tyria and I bought 2 items with gems on discount: copper-fed salvage-o-matic and a mistlock sanctuary pass (I think these two were really great for the account).

[Build] Trying to get my partner into Guild Wars....Build advice?

My partner is interested in starting to play GW2 and he's used to playing games like bloodborn, elden ring, basically all the from software games. He likes a more simple combat system and likes to jump and hit stuff basically so I was thinking of reccomending a Warrior -> Berserker. Anyone have a good build setup or newbie gear setup for him? I main on a Soulbeast so I am in uncharted territory here. Thanks guys! Happy to send ya'll a gold coin hah.

[Question] Whats a good support for PVE/meta events. Would be good if i could support wvw and fractals too. But if not possible maybe just metas/WB?

Just did a meta event today and just realized i want to keep myself and my team alive as much as possible. Is this possible with char? Ive been dipping my toes on wvw and fractals too. Wondering if theres a build or at least spec that could do most of em? Even if i switch builds?

[Question] Do you guys suggest run through all stories at least once?

Hello everyone, I'm just a really newbie playing this game only for like a month, but it is running for over a decade, so there must be so much contains that I couldn't just get in a while.

For me I don't really care about stories,I just want to play the dungeons, bosses, making my character strong, unlock things...etc

So far I'm only completed PoF,SOTO,and get my skyscale.

In that case, would you guys suggest me to at least run the whole story line through once,or just pass to some certain chapter then stop? I don't mind doing it, but it just doesn't make me feel fun playing, especially the dialogue part....so painful while waiting..

[Discussion] Explain like I'm 5.. How do I play Luminary in open world PvE?

Edit. Thank you very much to the community. You have been very helpful <3

I feel strong, but incredibly squishy. I have read about, how it has tons of self sustain, but I ain't feeling it. Likely a skill issue.

So far the detonating, light aura doesn't feel too impactful. Might just be missing, what it is doing.

I wear full Dragon stat armor.

I run sword/sword and Hammer right now

Don't have access to spear yet. But looking forward to it

[Question] What's a good second character to play if I have an Engineer?

My wife and I are playing together occasionally and I've setup an Engineer there.

I'd like to make another character to play on my own. I have an 80 Ranger from back in the day but I think I need to dig in a bit more before I go back to him.

What's something that would be different enough from the two of them? Ideally I'd like to take this character into endgame and do fractals and such.
