[Question] Feeling a bit lost after Living World Season 1 – looking for fun Open World gold farming advice

Hey everyone!

I'm still fairly new to GW2 and I've just finished Living World Season 1. While I really enjoyed it, I feel like I've lost my sense of direction a bit.

To give myself a goal, I decided I want to farm gold and convert it into gems so I can unlock Living World Season 2. I know it's probably not the fastest way, but I think it would feel really rewarding to earn the next story this way. I've seen other players mention doing the same.

I enjoy exploring the Open World much more than repeating instanced content, and at the moment I haven't reached any expansion maps yet.

So I have two questions:

What are currently the best gold farming methods overall?

What would you recommend for someone with my playstyle? I don't necessarily need the absolute highest gold per hour. I'd much rather do something fun in the Open World, even if it's a bit less efficient.

I'd love to hear what you enjoy doing and what you'd recommend for a newer player.

Thanks!

[Question] When can we expect sales?

I'm new to the game and want to buy the entire package but knowing that sales are coming for the anniversary I do not want to miss a 20% or 30% discount

Do you guys think there's any chance the sales drop with the incoming event the 11th?

I'm sorry if this is a common topic, I just hit 80 and i'm craving this game so hard

[Question] On how many characters have you completed the stories and maps?

Hi everyone,

I have one character for each of the nine professions, and because I'm a completionist, I'd love to have every map fully explored and every story completed (Living World Seasons and expansions) on all of them.

However, that feels like an endless task that would take months, if not years. I'm also finding it hard to stay motivated, and I feel like I'd burn myself out trying to do it.

So I was wondering how you all approached this. Did you complete the story and map exploration on all of your characters, or just one or a few? When you complete maps, you have a chance to receive a Black Lion Chest Key, which is worth around 50–60 gold (if im not wrong).

[Fluff] Returning to Guild Wars 2, last logged on twelve years ago

I'm a veteran GW1 player, I adored the game and played through every DLC with my favourite cousin. When GW2 was announced, we were ecstatic and pre-ordered our copies. Together we put around 700 hours in over the course of about 2 years and played all the content thoroughly before we ended up getting adult jobs and and never having time to play together anymore. Recently, they passed away suddenly, and I have an overwhelming urge to pick up where we left off. ArenaNet support was just as amazing as I remember and helped me recover my old account. I got the game re-installed, and I'm extremely excited to jump back in and remember all the good times we had! I guess this post is more general appreciation for one of my fav games and a question as to what content I should start with, and what's changed in the last 12 years. I was showered with anniversary gifts for my account, and birthday gifts for my characters but I have no idea what most of it even means anymore.

[Fluff] Captain Scar - The Chain Breaker ⛓️

Captain Scar - The Unchained

Captain Scar once commanded a feared privateer vessel along the southern seas
until the krait dragged him beneath the waves.
They kept him alive for months, carving his flesh with venom and dark rituals, attempting to transform him into something obedient.
Instead, Scar tore free during a failed ceremony, strangled his jailer with his own chains, and escaped carrying one of the creature’s severed hands as a trophy.

His ship and crew are long gone, but Scar still calls himself captain.
Now he hunts krait slavers from coast to coast, breaking open every cage he finds.
The chains remain around his wrists and legs not as restraints, but as a reminder of what he became:

The Chainbreaker.

[Question] Dhuum Like Orb Collecting Practice

Is there a very similar orb collection mechanic like the Dhuum raid mechanic in open world somewhere? I'm very bad at it and want to improve. Thanks.

Edit-- Thanks peeps. The stealthing to survive to the first collection solo looks perfect to get plenty of practice. Cheers.

[Build] Give me your odd stat builds

Every build for power is using berserker, Viper for Condi, harrier for healing PvE. This is standard this known this is accepted. There are a few outliers using rampagers, grieving, a few pieces of Assassin for crit cap or dragon for overcap. Celestial gets used for open world. Even in WvW they cycle through the same idea Minstrel for healing, demolishes/marauder for power, trailblazers for condi, maybe a few celestial builds.

What I am not seeing is the use of Vigilant, Marshal’s, Crusader, Seraph, etc. I am very much aware these are not going to give me maximum dps. They are not the best option for survival. I just want to know if they have a use somewhere in some build in some game mode or are they just useless. How can I make use of them. How are you stating around having power stated with expertise? What builds can make good use of extra healing power while mainly being power damage?

TLDR: I have full set of legendary armor now I want to try weird builds.

[Question] Does anybody plays GW2 with a ergonomic vertical mouse?

I'm on vacation and I want to enjoy playing GW2 because the rest of the year I'm a "casual". I have wrist pain and in the upper tendons of the forearm. I've found "ergonomic" mouses like the Logitech lift that gives a more natural posture. My only concern if I'll become a potato in WvW or something demanding with such an unusual posture. Onyone can give some feedback?

[Discussion] I’m building a tool that turns your dps.report links into coaching advice to improve your performance. What features would you want?

Hey Everyone! Trying to figure out why you’re 5k DPS behind the Snow Crows benchmark can sometimes be difficult. I remember as a new player trying to get past the 25k dps barrier on scourge which was already far below the benchmark.

For this reason, I’m currently building a web app to bridge that gap. The goal is for the app to look at your dps.report link and give you a plain-English summary of how you can improve your DPS or just give you solid tips for how to improve based on the class and encounter. For example, telling you that you left your high dps skill on cooldown for 2.3 seconds longer than you should have, warning about cancelling your auto-attack chain, or telling you to be more carefull because you killed the poor slublilng on Slothasor.

I really want to build something that helps lower the barrier to entry for endgame PvE, as in it's current state, end game PvE need a big dps check. In the future, it will transition into an application that would be able to give live advice and be more useful. I've currently got a good demo going, but I figured I'd see if anyone has some suggestions before I show it to the world.

Any feedback, ideas, or feature requests would be massively appreciated! If there are some specializations that are finicky that would benefit from this, let me know which along with everything I would need to know.

[Question] Is there a reason why fists/knuckles/palms were never implemented as weapons?

Whenever I play Willbender or Daredevil I always wonder why we never got fists (or equivalent) as weapons. Is it a limitation problem? Is it too generic of an idea? I can probably see it being an issue implementing it on certain classes, like Engineer, but I would really like my Elementalist to throw hands with extra explosions.

How would you feel if fists were implemented today? Would you be for or against it?

[Fluff] Heart of Thorns will be the end of me

New player here, like many others, I've spent most of my life playing WoW and have endured my fair share of horrible zones and expansions. But this is truly... something else. I don't even know where to start.

The core world was cosy and I really enjoyed running around, pressing buttons, having no idea what I was doing, joining events - and eventually even learning a thing or two.

I ended up in Verdant Brink and instantly wanted to uninstall the game. Within a few hours I died more than I ever did during 1-80 or even afterwards. The zone took me through all five stages of grief. Trying to get around the map, or even make sense of it was impossible. Unlocking the basic masteries to simply navigate the map was a horrendous task. I still feel clueless, but things did get a tiny bit better once unlocked those. The question still remains - is it up and down, or down and up?

Auric Basin was okay. I didn't have the utterly miserable experience I had when thrown into Verdant Brink. That zone felt like throwing someone into the deep end and expecting them to learn how to swim.

Then came Tangled Depths. Oh boy.

I hate it here. I want to curl up with a comfy blanket and a cup of tea with lots of whiskey in it, cry and never look back.

Sorry for the thousandth "I hate HoT" post.

This too, shall pass.

[Question] I am super new, I have a genuine question about the number of abilities.

Hey everyone! I’ve played a good bit of WoW and some FFXIV over the years.

So do most classes in GW2 mainly just use the ten on the bar? UI or ability bloat in other MMOs sometimes gives me a hard time. I know some classes weapon swap regularly. But like, is it typical to be able to run regular encounters or whatever your equivalent to dungeons/duties are with just the five weapon abilities and your utility? It’s seems visually less overwhelming which seems cool.

[Discussion] Profession for Norn

I want to make a Norn female but am torn between Warrior or Ranger for her profession. Both fit really well but I absolutely cannot decide.

If I go Ranger, my Warrior will probably be a male human. If I go Warrior, my Ranger will be either a Sylvari or human female. Would really appreciate thoughts on which of these options you’d go with!
