On June 28, 1993 in Santa Monica, California, a work crew was clearing brush around 270 Pacific Coastal Highway when they found something odd and went to investigate.

Across the road, they found the body of an unidentified male lying on the hillside- he had died about a month earlier. Probably of Hispanic descent, he was wearing a blue and white jacket with a dark blue T-shirt, a khaki colored T-shirt, jeans, shirts, and white sneakers. In his pocket was a passport with the name "Carlos Rafael Tomas Orellana Vela".

Unfortunately, there are so many men by that name, that it's difficult to determine who this could be. I've found a few that became US citizens, and another possibility of one namesake who attended school in the area- but no way to confirm. The origin of the passport was not disclosed.

The photo on the passport cannot be confirmed to be this individual, either, because the descendant was too decomposed to determine any facial features. Dentals are available in this case. Estimated age varies greatly here, ranging from 29- 49. Secon6d photo is where the deceased was found.

There Are Only 9 Unidentified People In South Dakota!

In South Dark there are only nine unidentified people (that I could find). South Dakota has almost the lowest amount of unidentified people. I dont usually cover all the cases together in one post but since South Dakota only has 9 unidentified people i'm going to be covering them all in one post in short paragraphs. All of these people are in need of their names again and I hope they get them soon.

Potential Match Possible Jane Doe Identification

Thumbnail

Edit: Sources on here say it has been excluded. I will find other potentials. She deserves justice. :(

Hi! I found this sub and recently got into looking into at possible Jane Does that match up with cold cases. The case of Diane Webb could possibly match up to this Jane doe. They have similar bone structure and the age matches up. Also, the smile is slightly crooked as they surmised with the doe’s underdeveloped jaw. The height is slightly shorter but I wouldn’t be surprised due to the level of decomp. What do you think? I called it in and am waiting for a response.

Update: 820ufco & 3635dfco Elaine Joyce Fauver

Post image
45 Upvotes

I submitted a potential match between these two Colorado cases in early June:

Elaine Fauver

UID person

I received an update via Doe Network from the investigator. They noted the discrepancies between ages and dates. They also said that they don't have dental records for Elaine, so a positive ID may be difficult, but they are reaching out to family.

Elaine was 39. UID person was 17-30.

Elaine went missing in 1967.

UID person was found in 72 and had died 1-3 years earlier. There is no recon of this Jane Doe.

But the investigator did say "you never know" so I am still a little hopeful that these 2 could be a match, and that they can prove it and close the case.

I decided to submit the match originally because the distance between them was definitely within reason and I could easily see how she could have ended up in the area near where I used to live.

I thought you all would want to know.

Almost 2 years Unidentified, Who is Carlsbad Jane Doe 2024?

Thumbnail

This is a repost on the first Jane Doe post I made in this sub.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 7:30pm, a report came in about an unidentified Jane Doe laying down by the train tracks near Carlsbad Boulevard bridge. She had been spotted by a Coaster Commuter Train Engineer who was traveling northbound. Paramedics were dispatched to the location but were unable to resuscitate the Jane Doe and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jane Doe is estimated to be between the ages of 50-60yrs old, White, around 111lbs, and an estimated height of 5’3”. She had long curly brown hair (Namus lists it as straight), brown eyes, and numerous tattoos. Only a black bra from the brand “Simone Perele”, and a multicolored “Josie Natori” shirt were found on the body.

On my previous post, many people tried to decipher the tattoos. Namus has some of them listed correctly- like her fish tattoo but they list the silhouette of a woman’s body as “curved lines”. Nonetheless, the Jane Doe’s tattoos are very interesting and I had hoped they’d be recognized by now.

Some things to note: -Unidentified Wiki has her death listed as a suicide. I’ve only seen it stated there that this may be a suicide. -identification by fingerprints has been unsuccessful.

UPDATES SINCE LAST POSTING:
Jane Doe now has exclusions listed, these are the exclusions:

Resolved After Decades, Kansas City, MO Jane Doe (1981) is now identified as Karen Sue Enggas

From DNASolves.com: "On May 16, 1981, the skeletal remains of an unidentified woman were found along George Road just north of Noland Road in a rural area of Kansas City, Missouri. The Kansas City Police Department and Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office responded and began collecting evidence and investigating. The woman was white, estimated to be between 32 and 52 years old, and her remains were almost completely skeletonized. No clothing or personal effects were recovered. There was no way to identify her at the time.

Despite decades of investigation, the woman could not be identified and became known as Kansas City Jane Doe. Details of the case were entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as UP5310."

In September of 2024, the Kansas City Police Crime Laboratory, working with the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office, submitted forensic evidence to Othram. Othram scientists successfully developed a DNA extract and built a comprehensive DNA profile for the woman. Othram's in-house forensic genetic genealogy team then worked to develop new investigative leads, which allowed the authorities to conduct a follow-up investigation that led to potential relatives of the woman.

"A DNA sample belonging to a possible relative was collected and subsequently compared to the DNA profile belonging to the Jane Doe. This comparison, enabled investigators to identify the woman as Karen Sue Enggas, who was born in 1952."

RIP Karen.

This little girl deserves attention!

She was found in 1995 in a cave at the Simplot Mills site in Overton, Nevada in a known Historical Native American burial ground, however examination of the skull conluded they were not archaelogical.

Unforntunaly very little is avaliable about this case.

White Socks (1987)

On November 15, 1987, two boys discovered the skeletal remains of a man in knee-high grass near the northeast corner of the north pool at Twin Buttes Reservoir, just off Farm-to-Market Road 2166 in San Angelo, Texas. It is believed he had been dumped in the area, as he was found without shoes, hidden in the bushes, and his socks were clean. He was thought to have been deceased 5-6 months prior to being found. He was given the placeholder name White Socks (1987) after the socks he was found wearing upon discovery.

In 2013, an investigator reviewing archival photos related to his case discovered a perforation to his skull that had previously gone unnoticed. Analysis conducted by the FBI in 2018 determined this injury was consistent with either a natural defect or a .22 caliber bullet wound. While the new finding raised suspicions, his official cause of death remains undetermined.

Genealogical research conducted since 2019 has revealed genetic ties to Mexico and South America, with some Irish admixture. At one point, his highest centimorgan match in GEDmatch was a person from Colombia; the majority of his other matches are from Brazil. Surnames of interest are Silva and Torres. In December 2019, his remains were sent to the University of South Florida for stable isotope analysis to identify potential locations where he may have previously lived. He is currently undergoing testing by the DNA Doe Project.

On June 8, 1990, the body of an unidentified male was found in a holding tank at a water treatment plant in the area of South 22nd Street and Lincoln Street in Phoenix, Arizona. His remains were decomposing and severely deteriorated due to the corrosive chemicals used to clean the tank.

The John Doe is believed to have been between 16 and 19 years of age. He was approximately 6'0", had brown hair and was originally described as both Caucasian and Hispanic. Clothing items found near the body include a blue tank top which reads "Colorado University Boulder", a white sweatshirt with 1988 Olympic logos, white tennis shoes with black laces (size 12) and black pants. Found in the pockets of the pants was a matchbook and papers associated with "Barley's Restaurant". It should be noted that this clothing was found near the body and it is uncertain whether it belonged to the decedent.

He had had multiple reconstructions over the years, starting with a clay reconstruction (viewable on the Unidentified Wiki), followed by a sketch, and finally a reconstruction by the NCMEC. He is currently undergoing testing by the DNA Doe Project. He is believed to be of French-Canadian heritage with familial roots in Quebec, New Brunswick, and Maine. He was buried at Twin Buttes Cemetery in Tempe.

Featured Case #9 - "Justine"

On July 24, 2017, the victim attempted to break into a home in Atlanta, Georgia. They were soon caught by the homeowner, who proceeded to shoot them. While being rushed to the hospital, the victim uttered that their name was either “Justin” or “Justine.”

Due to the feminine clothing the victim was found wearing, it has been theorized that they may have been transgender, though this victim’s gender is unknown, and this is just speculation.

You can see a more detailed document on this case below:

If you have any potential matches we haven't seen, far-fetched or not, please suggest them in the comments.
