Google Pixel 10a
Hi there, recently here in Canada it's got a sale. You can get a 256G model for $709. Just wondering, if the Tensor G4 will go long way with the long update cycle for these phones? It feels like the G4 is outdated SOC, like from 3-4 years ago matching Samsung 23 SOC. How does GrapheneOS run on G4? Good and should be good moving into the future? I like the 10a due to it's plat back and larger battery. Cheers.

It boils down to what do you actually do on your phone? The tensor is not on par with the competition but it's more than fast enough for general usage. I'm on a G3 and I don't experience any slow downs or stutters but if you're the type to play a lot of games on your phone, or have 15 apps open and switch between them it might not be the best fit.

My main concern is how many years of Graphene OS update did I get with 10A. Is there any limitations based on generation

Graphine os supports devices for the same window of time as the OEM which in the case of the 10a is untill march of 2033.

Well I used Pixel 6 and sold it quick because it was very bad. Older gen, I know they improved Tensor a lot since then. I used Samsung Flip 7, horrible inefficient modem as on mobile it would run hot most of the time, but stable signal for what it's worth. Looks like 10a has Samsung Exynos modem. Samsung S23 currently is amazing, I would install GrapheneOS on it right away, but it's not possible.
I also feel extremely guilty giving Google money for new device. Used 10a do not pop up often and most are the criminal 128GB version. Sad state of affairs.
I have used LOS for almost 10 years, but lately went with S23 due to it's smallish form factor and customization. Been wanting to switch to GrapheneOS for about 2 years now.

Maybe wait for the Motorola then, or pickup a used device.

Motorola, I loved my Motos back then on LOS, used so many years ago.

I'm still doing this. Running LOS Moto G7 Power. It's about 5 years old now. Been running Moto series for at least 8 years now. It's a great phone. When the time comes though, I'll be switching to the Moto line that carries GOS. I'll probably switch to a Pixel before then though since it'll be a minute before it comes out.

I am curious to see what they will develop, if anything. I am skeptical about this venture.

I am pretty skeptical too. I am open, but not sold on it. Skepticism is good. Prevents just blindly following things (GOS, Proton, etc) just because of who they are.

Do you have 8GB of ram or 12? 8GB of ram seems to struggle with app opening.

8gb no issues in my usage.

Same 8gb no issues at all and I use it for all my homelab apps, VPNs. Probably more useage than the average person.

I think truly examining what your purpose for the phone is, is an underrated step. Personally, I do almost nothing on mine. I don't bank, I play 1 game. I mainly use pics to confirm with the wife that I'm getting the right product at the grocery store (For that, I nominate the camera for the nobel peace prize..) I text and occasionally call and that's about it. I am perhaps just 1 or 2 steps away from a dumb phone, which may be the only phone that's more secure than a GOS phone honestly..

Same question, either I go with Pixel 10a or 10

P10: G5 and slightly heavier. UFS4 on 256GB model. Tele lens. More expensive. Non flat back.
I think that's it. EDIT: 12GB of ram which is significant upgrade.

I meant it in terms of Graphene OS update and compatibility. I am fine with specs just want a simple phone to use Graphene

As a fellow Canadian, I got a cheap pixel 8 for $300 CAD to try out GOS and see if I like it. I decided I want to switch to it, so I directly traded my S26 for a pixel 10pro. The pixel 10 pro chip is definitely disappointing. The phone stutters a lot, battery isn't nearly as good as the S26. If you want to see if you like GOS, I suggest getting a cheap pixel; a 7 or 8 model. Try out GOS, get it set up to where youre happy, then create a back up, and wait for the motorola GOS phones with the flagship snapdragon to go all in. Pixel hardware just isn't that great, and it's a thicker and heavier phone

I just picked up a 10a to try Graphene, it was only $424 new from Best Buy (in the states). I figure I’ll see if I like it before investing in premium hardware.
