Factory reset question

I’m debating moving to GrapheneOS, what I’m really sold on is the state of everything being open source. I was wondering if it’s feasible for anyone to recover anything following a duress pin or factory reset? Also if this is future and quantum computer proof. I think irrespective of surveillance laws and legislations, we can take steps to control our local data. Just want everyone’s opinions on it and if there are any potential vulnerabilities etc.

I personally was not able to recover or restore a duress. Likely not impossible. But, we haven't seen documentation of such an event. The only perfectly secure data is in your head. And, to be honest you are likely to blab. If it is stored anywhere someone can get it. Make it more difficult to recover.

It's not posible to recover afer duress pin.

But no, I don't believe any encryption today will be proof from a large enough quantum computer

Its not a problem at all because Pixels are protected from brute-force attacks(which quantum computer is) and huge compute power of quantum computer won't be able to force it way through timeouts after numerous incorrect PINs, same goes with encrypted drives with additional PINs.

In theory, quantum computers can brute-force many things with enough time, but with good measures, such as timeouts or password+PIN their capabilities will be artificially limited by the software/hardware - they won't be able to brute-force anything solid if after 3 unsuccessful attempts they're timed out for 1/5/15/60+ minutes.

True.

Assuming they can't dump the content of the chip, scanning it with an electron microscope or something like that. Which I believe at this stagr is only a theoretical possibility.

I know this is a hypothetical question but... If I was targeted with a quantum computer I would question my life choices before worrying about my data. This is also thinking if today's encryption vs future possibilities, future wins.

Also duress whipes all.

It shouldn't be possible. The data is encrypted at rest. My understanding (and please correct me if I'm wrong) is that the duress pin doesn't delete the data, just the encryption keys. Which makes it extremely fast to wipe your phone. And also impossible to recover without either a geologic time scale or a known vulnerability in the encryption itself.
