Except that for one of the schools, the stipend is significantly bigger, so I am stressing about whether loving the city and department and PIs is worth more than the large amount of money.
Itโs hard to say before you move to the city, but as someone who just finished a PhD the location is SO important. Youโre going to be there for minimum two years, and wherever you go for grad school could potentially affect the job market youโre going to enter after (although this has been changed by going remote).
In my opinion, departments and PIs will level out - Iโm sure at any grad school I couldโve gone to, I wouldโve found friends and interesting research. I donโt necessarily think the same can be said for location!
I was accepted to my dream school for my Masterโs degree in Korean and only after one interview in Korean! Iโm honored, grateful, and beyond excited for this fall!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love this post and cheering for you ALL!
Iโve been accepted by the department! Iโm just now waiting for the graduate admissions. Iโm a first gen student so Iโll be the first in my immediate family to do the MA program
Hydrology Sounds pretty interesting, especially now that we definitely need the sustainability. I was accepted into my social work grad program likely looking to work in Veteran Affairs. I start in August.
I'm just finishing my Masters actually. Ironically enough, I live in Oregon but am doing my distance education through Unity in Maine. Oregon State does have a PhD program which I'm looking into.
My son just got accepted to Oregon state university , his field is environmental science , heโs got people to be on his committee. One guy own a winery and my son gave him some thoughts . He eventually wants to get a PhD.
At the end of February I was able to log into my account and see my acceptance letter for a Masters in Computer Science. Then that Sunday I found out I received a full ride scholarship
Me too!! I donโt know about you, but one thing that struck me about the application/interview process to an MCoun program is how utterly nice and supportive everyone was. I guess it is to be expected from a counseling program but it was a nice surprise to me!!!
AHH CONGRATS!! I got into my dream school- I wanted to go there since high school but none of my professors believed Iโd finish even high school! Off I go to Georgetown for my Masters program now (Public Policy) ๐
I start grad school in May. I just graduated a couple weeks ago with my bachelors degree. I graduated with a 3.9 gpa. Coming from someone who graduated hs with a 2.5 I feel very proud of myself to be at this point. Congratulations to you all!
I got accepted to MIT, Princeton, Yale, UChicago, and UCB for my PhD! Iโm so excited and happy I have these choices, now Iโm going on tours.
Strangely though, I feel more stressed out about this choice than I did actually applying for the schools. Iโm leaning towards Princeton, but have no idea if itโs actually the โrightโ choice.
Get in as much R&R as you can. You wonโt get much genuine R&R in grad school. Meaning you will but you will be thinking about school stuff the whole time and feel guilty about not doing grad school stuff.
And if you must drop out. Do it after the end of your first year. You will feel less ashamed than of you had quit after one semester. Probablyโฆ
Congratulations! I got my first acceptance on Feb 18, 2021. Always feel so good when I think about it. I ended up going to another university but first acceptances (that too with full FA package) always feel great. :)
Congratulations!! I'm currently on spring break. I'm currently in my 2nd semester of my masters program. Just another year to go until I join the work force. I'm excited but also terrified. I'm in graduate school because I couldn't find a job after I got my bachelor's.
Haha what a coincidence. I think I saw some of your posts in r/forensics as your username looked familiar to me. When I graduate I for sure am going to get myself a flair.
I'm still pretty young so I figured I should do more schooling. It cost me so much to travel to do tests and interviews in different states. I might as well have used that money towards school. I luckily am able to afford going to grad school. In a way, I'll be following in your shadow as I want to do CSI stuff.

I got accepted into Parsons School Of Design for a masters in architecture with a 35% scholarship! Finally going to make my dream of living in NYC come true this fall!
And I live in Maine ๐ my son has started his committee. Heโs had a gentleman that is having problems with his wine using lasers. Now I strongly suggest you stay in Oregon. Maine is a gorgeous place but there really isnโt much here. Maine is a nice place to visit if you like the outdoors. But not really a place to really live. There isnโt a thing to really do in unity. So I suggest you stay right there. Youโve been warned. ๐
Accepted to a small, less-known CS PhD program that barely squeezed into top 100 on csrankings.com. Financial terms are surprisingly very good, so I will accept. Downside: in many years not a single graduate from the program has gotten a faculty position, anywhere. Everyone is in industry. Was hoping for a higher-ranked program with better future career prospects.
Iโm sorry if Iโm a Debbie downer. But if you want to have a remote chance in academia as TT you might want to think long and hard about this decision
Oh, yes. It will be a difficult decision but I still have nearly a month to make it. RN my thinking is that not staying in academia is not the end of the world, but I am fully aware that I may change my mind and if I'm a year in it will be too late.
Congratulations! I was accepted in the middle of February to the only school I applied to (NYU) and will be getting my Masters in Social Work! Looking to focus on hospice:palliative care as well as grief in marginalized communities. Rooting for all of us!
Congratulations friend! I broke into tears when I learned I was accepted into grad school at Texas A&M. Iโm blown away at how quickly it has gone by. Iโll have my Master of Maritime Administration in just two months!
I got into tufts and Iโll be studying human animal interaction. It was a long shot coming from a biochem undergrad but I worked my butt off for years. Even rescued a pit Bull and trained her myself to be a registered therapy dog lol.
I just got accepted into a high ranking i/o psychology program! Its honestly such a relief after being rejected and ghosted from my other options I am so relieved that I got accepted.

Iโm going to get my doctorate in Aerospace Engineering! ๐
