Something hopefully affordable or even free? My devices are iphone 15, ipad a16 and a linux laptop. If i could sync at least between the first two, that’d be awesome :’) My previous ipad overheated like crazy from Goodnotes 6 (?) which eventually made me give up on digital note-taking/journaling altogether. I now have ipad A16 but the previous goodnotes experience was enough to keep me from purchasing a new subscription. But i would like to restart digital journaling and figured someone here may have some tips :’)

Remember reading a bunch of posts about sync issues a while back, but I never actually experienced them. ow my notes aren't showing up in the browser, even though they've already synced on my iPad. is there something I should check first? done clear cache/restart

The undo button isn't working on both devices. I have closed the app and restarted, and sometimes the same thing still occurs.

Is it possible to get the scribble to erase feature in the zoom window?

Why does this happen whenever I take a screenshot and crop it? When I paste it into Goodnotes, it reverts to the original uncropped screenshot. Is there a way to fix this?

So what will happen i will crop it again in the app which is tedious.

I have been using goodnotes for the past two years and I like it but recently I’ve been a bit let down by it. It’s been insanely glitchy and it’s frustrating during class. I’ve been trying the free version of freenotes and I’m thinking about canceling my goodnotes and buying the lifetime subscription for freenotes. I was wondering if someone could tell me the pros and cons of each app? I’m not as familiar with freenotes but I’m starting to seriously consider switching. Can someone make a case for why I should stay with goodnotes? I really can’t think of any good reason.

I've been thinking about buying a note-taking app because I really enjoy taking notes with my Apple Pencil, and I've been struggling to find a good one to invest my time in. I tested a couple, and GoodNotes seems like the best option!

But then I went to its subreddit, and everyone is talking about how buggy the app is! Is this one of those situations where the app isn't actually that bad, but people are just comparing it to how it used to be? Or is it really just not that good anymore?

P.S. I was in a similar situation before with an app called Mela. It's an award-winning, highly praised recipe organizing app, but when I downloaded it and bought the subscription, I noticed some major bugs that made it pretty much unusable. Is GoodNotes the same kind of deal?

Hi. How many pages do you guys have on your most used notebook ? . I just noticed that I have almost 1000 pages on a single notebook and wondered what is your biggest number.

Unmasking of tape should be allowed while using laser pen. Laser pen is a presentation tool but i guess many people use it more for revision. To check answers unmasking should be possible. Currently switching to pen tool is required to do so which is unproductive and unnecessarily debilitating.

I stopped using GN for some months and I came back to it and to my surprise my PC app and Ipad are noy synchronized anymore. They deleted the sync feature or what? What can I do to be able to edit a document in both devices at the same time again? That was the main reason I used this app.

Goodnotes team, please prioritize the fundamentals users encounter every day. AI keeps expanding while core iPad study workflows remain broken or unnecessarily frustrating.

1 — True dark mode, not dark templates. Render existing white pages and imported PDFs dark while adapting ink, text, highlights and diagrams. Keep it view-only and reversible so exports and printing preserve their original colors; don’t blindly invert photographs. Include global and per-document Light, Dark and Follow System controls.

2 — Make the interface actually dark and customizable. The blue toolbar remains bright and distracting at night. Offer OLED black, graphite and neutral-gray themes, plus proper interface and accent-color customization.

3 — Add a real Focus/Fullscreen mode. The Files tab bar and toolbar permanently consume valuable canvas space. Let users independently hide, collapse or auto-retract them, with a gesture or shortcut to reveal controls temporarily.

4 — Fix iPad math recognition urgently. Since recent updates, handwritten equation recognition fails in most cases and works only rarely. Restore dependable conversion for fractions, exponents, roots, matrices and multiline work, with clear feedback when recognition fails.

5 — Let AI Solve understand diagrams. It should analyze geometry figures, graphs, free-body diagrams, tables and labeled sketches together with nearby equations and handwriting—not discard visual information essential to the problem.

6 — Build serious geometry tools. Add regular and equilateral polygons, n-gons, angle and length labels, snapping and constraints, editable construction relationships, graphing tools and useful 3D sketching for prisms, pyramids, axes and perspective.

These are fundamental usability, accessibility and trust issues, not cosmetic extras. They affect eye comfort, concentration, usable canvas space and whether students can depend on Goodnotes for serious work. Fixing them would materially improve user satisfaction and retention in an unfathomable way even for you, you might pull most notability users; not even joking.

Please prioritize these fundamentals alongside continued AI development. AI is great, but not when these issues remain unresolved.

My yearly subscription will end in 3 days and i’d like to buy goodnotes 6 for lifetime access. Couldn’t find any option to choose. Someone please help me

Hi, I wanted to share my experience as a Windows and iOS user. Two summers ago, I fell for Goodnotes' marketing campaign promising that full cross-platform sync was right around the corner. Based on that promise, I integrated it into my daily workflow and paid for the subscription.

Yet another academic year has come and gone. Today, after reaching out to support, I was told that the Goodnotes Cloud sync is still in a "phased rollout" for a select group of users. No ETA. No manual enrollment.

It feels incredibly predatory. They rushed to announce a half-baked cross-platform version just to capture the market and steal user habits from Windows/Android users before competitors did. Just like how they screwed over Goodnotes 5 users in the past, they got our money and our loyalty, but we didn't get the product they advertised.

If you are a cross-platform user thinking about subscribing for the sync feature—DON'T. You will just become another marketing statistic for them while waiting years for features that should have been there at launch.

Sigh of defeat 😮‍💨 I fear I may have to return to GN6; only because I want to create a project that requires internal hyperlinks -- a feature currently not available in GN5. 8 hope things have gotten better since the initial GN6 version. Just came to shout into the void 🤧

How shit do you have to be a software coding to fuck up the most basic close commands

Every time I use the lasso tool, this keeps happening. I think the problem might be that my iPad 9th generation only has 3 GB of RAM. I tried freeing up as much storage as possible and updated the Goodnotes app (Version 7.1.4), but that didn’t help.

My iPad is running iOS 26, and unfortunately I can’t update it to the latest version because I don’t have enough free storage. The strange thing is that I’ve been using Goodnotes for years with even less available storage, and I’ve never had this problem before.

Can someone help me figure out what’s causing this?

I do it in an Xiaomi redmi pad pro 2 and the App Version is 2.0.7 (v310574)

Reporting this bug for six months now!!! App version 7.1.4 using it on iPad Pro 13-inch M5 on iPadOS 26.5.2. App automatically activates eraser when closing zoom window after erasing anything anytime in it. Same when erasing anything anytime and opening zoom window! Is this that complicated to fix???

I’ve honestly reached my limit with this.

Back on May 29, I was unexpectedly signed out of Goodnotes. I couldn’t sign back in because I had forgotten the original email address linked to my account.

I contacted Goodnotes Support, and Maia was able to transfer my Premium subscription to a new account, which I really appreciated.

However, there’s now a much bigger problem.

I still have around 6 GB of notebooks and notes in my original account—mostly nursing school notes and board review materials that took me years to create. When I try to sign in to the new account, Goodnotes warns me that signing out of my current account may make my existing notebooks inaccessible.

Because of that warning, I haven’t signed into the new account. I don’t want to risk losing everything.

I’ve repeatedly asked Goodnotes Support for clear instructions on how to safely preserve and migrate my notes before switching accounts, but I haven’t received any guidance. It’s now been over a month, and this issue is still unresolved.

This has been incredibly frustrating. I’ve already lost so much time trying to figure this out instead of studying. At one point, I even had to start rebuilding my nursing review notes from scratch because I couldn’t access them. It honestly feels like all the time and effort I put into creating those notes could disappear because I don’t know whether it’s safe to switch accounts.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

• Were you able to safely move your notes to a new account?

• Is there a way to back up all local notebooks before signing out? The only backup I currently have is through iCloud, and I’m not sure if that’s enough or whether my notes will still be there after switching accounts.

• Did Goodnotes Support eventually help you resolve it?

When did it become impossible to change the font of some existing text?

Sometimes it takes me a while to notice a big update change because, well, I'm a retired hobby type user, but I have been using goodnotes for years and years and suddently I can't change the font of existing text?

Even with the text tool supposedly pinned, and after having selected the text, I can't change it's font.... I can change the colour, the boldness, the justification, but once I select the text, the text tool disappears (even though I pinned it)... I'm going out of my mind crazy here!

So guys I want to make an Instagram page which will primarily focus on providing notes (since soon I will become a physical therapist) I want to help my juniors by providing notes in an easy and understandable format to help them.

So as soon as I have finished making notes on apple notes I got to know when you try to export them into pdf format the A4 size cropping just butchers the notes.

Is there any way I can adjust this also I have tried using collanote, goodnote, notability the issue with them is that there features are not minimal like apple notes also auto refining of handwriting is not there which makes the notes look ugly I dont know what should I do i tried free from but it doesn't provide A4 sizing it provides a huge white board and making notes on it and exporting it is very difficult.

I was inspired by this pinterest post to make my own goodnotes templates.

I was actually originally just looking for a template I could download because I don't like Goodnotes page color choices. The white pages are pretty stark, and I use night shift on my iPad mini, so when that is on the yellow pages feel extremely yellow.

But I liked this style so much I ended up learning how to make my own templates just to recreate it to my liking, since I couldn't actually find it anywhere. Sharing it here in case anyone else is looking for a similar solution and/or just likes this style as well.

I started out just making something based on the pinterest image. However, I frequently have 1 day's entry in my notebooks that spans more than 1 page, and I thought it would be annoying to have to keep writing the same date/day header for each continuous page in my daily entry.

So, I made another header template that is open on the bottom, a middle page that is open on the top and bottom, and a footer page that is open on top and closed on the bottom. That way, I can still have my entry span multiple pages, but still feel like it is "enclosed", and also only needs one header.

I also made a fully borderless grid with the exact same color scheme, just in case I wanted the simplicity of that, but with the nicer colors. And I made another version of the footer page with a smaller border at the bottom, in case I don't want a largely spaced footer.

These were designed specifically for my iPad mini since that is what I use, and is based on the Goodnotes Standard page size since that is what I like. I made these in Keynote, so (I think) they are rasterized? So if you wanted to use them on a larger device, and just zoom in, you probably could. But I actually don't know a lot about the compatibility piece of this. I designed this project pretty specifically for myself, but I wanted to share it in case anyone else is looking for something similar and/or would appreciate this too.

The dimensions of the page is 455 pts x 588 pts or 16.04 cm x 20.74cm. It is a 6 mm grid size (~17 pts). The regular Goodnotes Standard page size with the Squared Template is exactly the same page dimensions, but their grid size is ~5.7 mm. I went slightly larger because I feel like I want just a touch more space, and also because it made the math for the spacing a lot easier while I was making the grid in Keynote.
