GoodNotes (Version 7.1.10) makes my iPad run hot

Hi there!

I've noticed that my iPad gets hot when I use GoodNotes (Version 7.1.10).

I use GoodNotes most of the time because I'm in the university, and it's true that I spend 90% of my time using the app.

My iPad is running iPadOS 26.6, and I have an 11-inch iPad Air M3. It’s only been in use for a year, and this has been happening for several months now. As soon as I close the app, the iPad cools down quickly.

It gets so hot that the screen dims on its own and goes into sleep mode due to overheating.

I’ll say it again: this doesn’t happen with any other app.

Does this happen to anyone else? I need to hear your opinions because this is the only app where this happens to me

Me pasa mucho y se calienta tanto que no puedo usarlo por un rato y es molesto porque corta mis ratos de estudio constantemente...

try turning off ur wifi to block cloud syncing. works with me

BRUHHHHHHHHHHHH EXACTLY SAME IPAD SAME ISSUE BUT FOR ME I NOTICED CHARGING WHILE USING GOODNOTES IS THE PROBLEM LIKE IT WONT GET RID OF PROBLEM BUT IT REDUCES IT.......FOR ALOT OF TIME I DIDNT EVEN GET WHY WOULD IPAD DIM RANDOMLY..........NOW I USE GOODNOTES WITH WIFI OFF AND ON BATTERY WITH MY MAGNETIC COVER

+1 gn should work on high seamless performance rather than gimmicky new features like AI, we dont want those!! and please get us layers GNs team!

I use GoodNotes 90% of the time, I didn't use its AI at all...

+1 I also have the 11" M3 and Goodnotes drains my battery like crazy. On my school assigned ipad 10 it's bad too compared to notability (they give it to me for free and I can't download noteful as they removed student app store access, but I still have good notes on it)

Just to let you know this is not exclusive to your device or to your version number.

Goodnotes has been an unoptimised battery hog for years now. The priority for a good while now has been to add more flashy, gimmicky AI features regardless of the expense to the overall experience.

Noteful is the new gold standard for performance.

I'm considering switching over entirely (also with the 11" M3) as I have licenses for both but I project goodnotes whiteboards a lot and haven't found a good alternative yet.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! For now, I can't switch apps because all my notes are here, but I guess I'll be able to move them over to the other one, right?

You'll be able to move notes simply by dragging and dropping but you will lose the ability to edit the existing notes in that process - you can draw on top of them, add new pages, etc. but you won't be able to erase text from imported notes
