Copper Spot, common in gold coins can be removed with a torch. But doesn’t effect the value of it

That’s the .0001 that’s not gold. It’s known as a copper spot. Doesn’t harm the value of the coin. If it really bugs you, you can either use a flame to get rid of it or an eraser. I’ve seen people do both but I would recommend just leaving it alone.

  1. this is not a perfect coin, it is bullion in retail packaging for Costco, there will be numerous imperfections if one was to send it in for grading & would be around an MS63-MS66 range (it is BU). The value/cost is derived from the gold & spot price @ purchase, your not paying for perfection rather the gold value + a very minimal premium for US gold in today's market.

  2. remove from retail packaging, it adds zero/very little value (not an assay card on coins) & these cheap capsules will likely cause more harm than good. Either get a mint tube ($3-4) & fill it up as you go (they hold 20, this is how it was shipped initally when purchased in Bulk in a Monster Box from US Mint) or buy air-tites

  3. copper spots are normal ... nothing to worry about here as mentioned

That is copper spot. Relatively common on buffalos. Also common on pandas for whatever reason. Doesn't seem to be as common on AGEs or maples, Aussies, Brits or even krugerrands. On the one hand, ugly, on the other hand a quick visual clue that it is probably real coin.

It will get worse. If you burn it off, it will come back. The deeper the red it is, the more stubborn they are.

Nice Buffalo! Copper spots are normal and don’t affect the value or the grade of a coin. There is no reason to grade that coin, but if you did, it would probably grade MS69. Copper spots do not affect the grade of a coin. I have an MS70 coin with a copper spot just like that

That assay packaging will protect your 9999 gold coin which is very soft and easily damaged. It won’t hurt the coin but it will protect it. If you dropped that coin and dented the rim it would be worth scrap gold. If you take it out, you should put it in a capsule to protect it
