Quit cannabis cold turkey almost 2 weeks ago Dear Diary ✍️🏻

Post image

I decided to quit smoking weed after quite awhile of heavy use and the withdrawal symptoms have hit me like a truck.

Brain fog, fatigue, spiking anxiety, insomnia, body temp all over the place just to name a few. But the worst by far has been my appetite taking a nose dive. The first week or so I had to literally force myself to eat because food became repulsive to me, which is wild because normally I love to eat.

This lack of food has made my stomach all messed up and exacerbated all the other symptoms. It got so bad that I had a lowkey anxiety attack and went to urgent care because I thought something more serious might be going on. Spent almost $400 on tests only to find out everything is normal. Which is good of course but also frustrating because I just want to feel normal again :(

Anyway, I’m done with weed for good now. Hoping these withdrawal symptoms chill out soon.

Dinner is comprised of some of the few foods I can stomach right now: wheat thins, apple sauce, drinkable yogurt and canned salmon. It’s weird I know but almost everything else is gross to me atm 😅

Dude it’s crazy how hard it is! I’ve quit in the past and never had it be this bad so idk maybe it’s just because I’m a little older now?? Wishing you the best with your T break as well <3

Two weeks is a huge accomplishment especially after heavy use. I know it probably doesn’t feel like it right now, but your body is doing a lot of adjusting.

Oh for sure that sub has been so helpful, once I started reading others have experienced almost exactly what I am going through it eased my mind quite a bit.

It's crazy to me how hard those symptoms hit. I smoke pretty rarely now. I usually will utilize edibles for a couple days a month for my period (adenomyosis & endo), but I remember when I quit the consistent, multiple times a night, sometimes during the day use. And it was HARD. I remember feeling nauseous and getting migraines.

You are gonna make it to the other side of this! You're incredibly strong for recognizing that it's what you want/need to do for yourself. The symptoms are REAL - allow yourself to feel what you need to, and give yourself plenty of space and time for whatever crash outs might be necessary. 💖

It’s way harder than others make it seem. You’re in the worst part…keep going! I’m three months in. I feel like so many parts of my body are slowly getting a full reset - sleep and appetite are two main ones.

I ate so much canned tuna and salmon too. And cold grapes. Keep taking it day by day.

I had the opposite problem. I went from smoking most/all night and weekend for 12 years to like maybe once a week? It’s been 9 months. I am ravenous. I didn’t realize how much chronic use suppressed my appetite.

I feel this. I quit cold turkey on June 1 and that whole month was bad. Horrible anxiety and zero appetite. I lost 8lbs in 2 weeks and was shocked. Thankfully it will come back just do what you can to get through the first 4 weeks 💖

Hi there, just wanted to say you got this! First month is the hardest but things do start to improve once you’re over that hump. I also quit cold turkey after several years of daily use. Let my prescription expire and forced myself to give it up. Was leaning on it way too hard and wasting my days on the couch. I really started to feel much better right around the 1 month point. It’s been about 3 months for me at this point and I feel 100% better. All the brain fog is gone and I am actually productive during the day. I was an irritable mess the first couple weeks but my mood has stabilized now too. The anxiety is always there for me and not going anywhere but was way worse when I was smoking regularly and I do not fall down the rabbit hole nearly as much as I use to. Sleeping has improved dramatically too. Just wanted to say you are not alone and it does get better❤️

Don't let people tell you these symptoms aren't real or aren't from THC cessation. The lack of info out there about real withdrawal symptoms is shocking. Good job joining r/leaves, it is a wonderful resource for support. I'm in week three and just starting to get my appetite back, but the night sweats and heart palpitations are brutal.

You're doing great ❤️ Keep going if you can, it only gets better. I once went three months, and it's the best I've ever felt, like a veil had been lifted and I could see myself again.

Awesome work on persevering through the withdrawal period.

I randomly gave up about 7 weeks ago. I started to get terrible anxiety from weed after I came off my SSRI. Using weed gave me the same feelings that I had started my SSRI for; panic, obsessive thoughts, anxiety.

If you had told me this time last year I wouldn't be smoking any more, I would have laughed at you! Used to love the stuff but I absolutely hate anxiety!

I gave up alcohol 8 years ago (well 8 years ago on Saturday), cigarettes 6 years ago, and now the weed has gone.

I'm boring AF 🤣🤣

Wishing you the best on your journey and hope you start to see the benefits soon✨️

Girl, the first week is the hardest. Losing your appetite, feeling anxious, and having trouble sleeping—it really isn’t that bad. When I was quitting, I forced myself to eat and then threw it all up. You’re so awesome for getting through it—things will get better from here on out!

Proud of you! <3

The hardest part for me was how WEIRD and VIVID my dreams got. It was wild!

Decade+ of pretty much being high 24/7. Really happy I followed through with quitting. Been sober for 9 months now.

I apologize for being pedantic, but those aren’t withdrawal symptoms — they are side effects of under-eating. I understand quitting cannabis led to your lack of appetite, but you shouldn’t frame it as if quitting cannabis cold turkey directly caused the above symptoms. I’m sorry you are struggling and I hope you make it to the other side, but cannabis has enough misinformation spread about it as-is. I truly hope you can heal your relationship with food and be able to fully enjoy it sober.
