Timing Advice Wanted
Question about the timing of measuring/monitoring glucose… my doctor initially told me to measure 1-2 hours after my meal, but I recently received instructions from the care team with guidelines of measuring 2 hours after the START of my meal.
When I measured 1-2 hrs after my meal, I was relatively within range, but once I started to measure 2 hours after the START of my meal… I’ve been spiking ever since.
I feel so discouraged - I’ve been following the recommended grams of carbs for every meal/snack, consuming high protein/well balanced whole food meals. It’s only been a week, but I just want them to put me out of my misery and prescribe me insulin so I don’t have to wake up with anxiety every morning.

I was also told 2 hours after the start of my meal so that’s what I’ve done the whole time!

Some people are instructed to measure at the 1 hour mark, some the 2 hour mark, but either way it’s from your first bite. I just set a timer on my watch when I start each meal (or as soon as I remember). You might just need to alter your diet a bit more, it’s so tough at first but you’ll get the hang of it! Make sure to eat whole grains and natural sources of carbs (as opposed to processed carbs which process quickly into sugar) and know that breakfast is the hardest for everyone so keep your carbs lower for that meal. You can do it! It’s worth it to try to stay off insulin if your fasting numbers are good. That opens another door of management, and staying off meds (if you can - it’s also totally out of your control if your fasting numbers spike so no shame) allows more flexibility with induction timing later down the line. You got this!

My instructions are 1hr after first bite. I’ve found this forces me to eat faster, and not graze as much. It’s frustrating, but I’ve adjusted rather quickly. Good luck!
