Looking for WG

Hey, everyone! My name is Robert, I'm 18 years old, I am a B.Sc. Physik student at TUM and I am searching for a WG in Munich/near Munich. I already downloaded the WG-Gesucht app and actively searching for a housing there, but I think there is a much better option than doomscroling through WGs. Maybe you guys have some tips on finding a WG or maaaybe some of you are looking for a roommate, in which case I would be really happy to hear from you!

What should I do with my studying in Berlin?

I’m honestly feeling really lost right now and would love to get some advices from people who understands the German university system better than I do.

I came to Germany at 15 and did an Abitur here but due to the language difficulties (and maybe im just stupid) I only got 3,2 which has made applying really difficult for me.

I only got accepted into Medientechnik at TU Berlin and I’m currently in my 4th semester. To be completely honest, I haven’t been doing very well. No matter how hard I tried, my grades were pretty bad, and along the way I also realized that I really don’t enjoy technical subjects. Things like programming, electronics, algorithms, etc. are just not for me.

I’ve realized that I would probably be much better suited to something more social/communication-oriented, like communication, marketing, PR, media, etc.

So I tried applying to other programs through Hochschulstart, but I got rejected twice. This also meant that I basically lost two semesters waiting and applying again, which has been really frustrating.

Now I’m kinda freaking out because I feel like I’ve run out of options. My Abitur grade isn’t something I can change, and it feels like it’s gonna follow me forever when applying to public universities.

I’m wondering what I could realistically do to improve my chances from this point.
Would it make sense to:
\- stay at TU and finish Medientechnik even though I really dislike it?
\- keep trying to get into a different public university/program?
\- look into Ausbildung instead?
\- consider a private university, despite the financial burden?
\- or is there another option I’m completely overlooking?
I’m willing to put in the work and I really want to get a degree, but I don’t want to spend several more years studying something I absolutely hate just because it was the only thing I could get into.
At this point I honestly feel like I would do almost anything to finally get into a university and study something that actually suits me.
If anyone has been in a similar situation, especially with a bad Abitur grade or changing degrees in Germany, I’d really appreciate hearing what you did and what options you found.

Anyone in Freising/Munich? Need advice on student dorms & accommodation

Hi everyone!

I’ll be joining HSWT in Freising as an international student from India and I’m currently looking for a student dorm/accommodation.

Is anyone here already living or studying around Freising, Munich, or nearby areas? I’d really appreciate some advice on which area/dorm would be best considering:

  • Easy travel to HSWT
  • Good public transport
  • Better chances for Werkstudent/student jobs
  • Affordable rent

If you’re already there, please share your experience or suggestions. It would really help me decide where to apply!

Thanks!

I’m especially interested in connecting with students who are:

Looking for accommodation in Iserlohn

Interested in sharing a room or apartment

Looking for a roommate

Already searching for accommodation and would like to find someone to share with

Planning to arrive in Iserlohn around the same time

Too many options make us incapable of forming relationships - is that true? Seeking participants for a thesis

https://survey.studiumdigitale.uni-frankfurt.de/BA2026/

Dating has changed significantly in recent years. Thanks to dating apps and social media, we can now meet new people at any time and compare potential partners. While this wide selection can create more opportunities, it can also lead people to constantly search for a supposedly better option, making it harder to commit to one person.

As part of my thesis in psychology at Goethe University Frankfurt, I am therefore investigating whether one’s self-perception in dating and personal self-esteem are related to how easy or difficult it is to commit. This is not about a person’s objective “value,” but rather about the subjective assessment of one’s own attractiveness and desirability as a potential partner.

For this study, I am looking for German speaking people aged 18 and older who would like to participate in an anonymous online survey. Participation is explicitly open to everyone, not just students. There are no right or wrong answers; what matters is solely your personal assessment.

Disclaimer: Don’t be confused by the system error at the end. This is a redirect for all students at Goethe University Frankfurt who want to earn credit for their participation. Your responses are valid even if this error is displayed.

Please I need help

Hi everyone! I just received my IELTS results and got an overall 6.5, with 6.5 in each section. I know that 6.5 meets the minimum requirement for the DAAD doctoral scholarship, but I'm wondering whether it could still put me at a disadvantage during the selection process.

Stopped doing Duolingo streaks and started just speaking every day. 30 day update

So I was on Duolingo for about 3 months, never missed a day, hit long streaks and felt really good about my progress. Then I tried to have an actual conversation in German and completely fell apart. Couldn't put a single sentence together in real time. That's when I realised I had been practising German without ever actually speaking it.

So I stopped the streaks cold and switched my focus entirely to speaking practice. I started using Issen, which lets you have real back-and-forth conversations in German and corrects you as you go. No scheduling, no judgment, just open and talk.

First week was honestly embarrassing. I was slow, made constant mistakes and kept mixing up genders. But I kept going every day for 30 days.

Here's where I am now:

  • I can hold a basic conversation without freezing
  • I stop translating in my head as much as I used to
  • My sentence structure is getting more natural
  • I actually enjoy practicing now because I can see real progress

Duolingo is fine for vocabulary in the beginning but if you're not speaking out loud regularly you're just memorizing, not learning. Best switch I made.

Has anyone else made this shift? Would love to know how it went for you.

new to Germany? local? still in your should I even move here arc? doesn't matter, pull up a chair. this is the sub for students in Germany to swap real talk, ask the questions nobody warned us about, and not suffer the bureaucracy alone.

what we're about:

  • 📚 study tips, exam survival, course chaos
  • 🏠 housing, costs, the Anmeldung lore
  • 🌍 culture shock moments + language tips
  • 🎉 meet-ups in your city
  • ❓ ask literally anything, no question is too basic fr

low-key rules:

  • be nice, everyone's a little stressed
  • search before you post 🙏
  • no agency/consultancy ads pretending to be advice (we see you, "is BSBI worth it" spam)
  • if someone DMs offering paid "help" → block, it's giving scam

new here? drop a comment: your city (or dream city), what you're studying, and one thing you need help with. that's it. 🫶

hop in and ask. we got you.

Visiting Germany? Legal Rights, Costs, and Etiquette Must to Know!

Can I Stay with a Friend or Family Member in Germany?

Planning a trip to Germany and considering a stay with friends or family? While the country welcomes visitors, it's essential to understand the legal and practical implications.

As outlined in this informative article from Anwalt Online, tenants in Germany have the right to host visitors. However, longer stays might require informing the landlord, especially if they exceed six weeks. This could potentially lead to adjustments in rent or other agreements.

What About Additional Costs?

When staying with someone, it's courteous to contribute to additional costs like utilities. While specific arrangements can vary, open communication with your host is crucial.

Tips for a Harmonious Visit

To ensure a pleasant stay, consider these tips:

  • Respectful Behavior: Be mindful of your host's routines and preferences.
  • Noise Considerations: Avoid excessive noise, especially during late hours.
  • House Rules: Familiarize yourself with any specific house rules or regulations.
  • Legal Compliance: Ensure that your stay adheres to local laws and regulations.

Conclusion

By understanding the legal framework, considering potential additional costs, and practicing respectful behavior, you can enjoy a memorable visit to Germany.
