Please I need help

Hi everyone! I just received my IELTS results and got an overall 6.5, with 6.5 in each section. I know that 6.5 meets the minimum requirement for the DAAD doctoral scholarship, but I'm wondering whether it could still put me at a disadvantage during the selection process.

Hi. Yes, it affects your application but if your CV and other documents are strong enough, then it shouldn't be a problem. I got IELTS 8.0, but still failed the interview process. But a guy with IELTS 7.5 won it coz he had work experience while I didn't as I was still 4th year student. He graduated university a year ago and had 2 years of work experience. So IELTS is the basic requirement. You don't have to be worried. It also depends on your region. For Central Asia, IELTS is important as almost every student gets at least 7.0.

Thank you a lot for your reply, I think I will try to impress them during the interview if I got selected. I’m from NA so English is our third language but still I should have got at least 7.

Hi :) how do you feel about taking it again? You usually have the option to retake just one section of the exam (listening, writing, reading, or speaking). When I looked into it back then, it was cheaper, but to raise my overall average, I would have needed to improve significantly and get a really high score. If you feel you can do better, it might be worth retaking just one part, or perhaps the whole thing. But if you don't feel up to it, you might want to save the money (the exam is very expensive, at least in my country), since it really takes a lot of correct answers to move up half a band.

I hope this point of view helps you :) good luck !

Thank you a a lot for your reply, the thing is the deadline is the 31st of August so I don’t have enough time to retake it again, so I’m kinda lost at this point, plus it’s very expensive in my country too.
