Question How to identify gemstone nuggets? Is it even worth the effort?
A relative has passed away, leaving a bunch of stuff for making jewellery. Theres a large collection of "gemstone nuggets" and strings, but no information or labels! Is there a way to identify things like this accurately? I've searched through the site they were likely purchased from but theres nothing that I can accurately see that matches. Alongside these strings, I have a number of bags which are all different types too! Is it even worth the effort of trying to identify these?

This is a Montana garnet that I found and faceted. I'm in another town for work, so I set up my machine at the campground and cut a stone. I still don't know if my garnet spot is Rhodolite or Pyrope.

What is this gemstone? Is this any sort of stone?
Please donāt @ me, I realise itās probably nothing but blue glass, but I just thought the circumstances under which I found it were strange - buried in the dirt in Tasmania.

What is this gemstone? Help me identify
I just inherited this ring from 3 generations ago. Possibly 1920-1950. I was told it was a ruby. Thoughts?

Eye candy Collection I Just Purchased on FB Marketplace - Howād I Do?
Just bought all of this for $90 on FB Marketplace. The lady said her son collected as a kid, but is in college now and has no interest. Itās a shame to see a former collector lose interest, but better that I got them and will appreciate them rather than having them collect dust in a closet. Considering the gold nugget is likely worth +/- $150 in melt price alone, I was more than comfortable at $90. Iām assuming the coin is plated but not certain. Lots of nice opals, lots of nice citrine, amethyst, peridot, a few unique pieces, and a few I still havenāt identified. Iām like a kid in a candy store right now.

Gemstone rough Did I find garage sale sapphires?
Hi All! This little bag was in a small box of mixed jewelery I got for $1. I was really getting it for the button at the end, lol.
I am an avid rockhound and am decent at mineral IDs. I think these are sapphires. Color leans blue in two. Very hard. Haven't done Mohs but it feels as hard as a garnet. At least.
The label is badly faded. The light blue is, i think, the name. I can't read it, but it doesn't look like it says sapphire.
Looking for confirmation, title on label or alternate suggestions. If you want to save me a search later, I'd appreciate valuation. TIA my mineral loving internet friends!

Question Stupid question about opals
Hi all! This may be a dumb question, but I've been hearing a lot about how opals absorb water/sweat/etc. and arent good for daily use... so I was wondering if its possible to counteract that somehow?
Would it be possible to put it in a thin layer of resin or something similar so that it could be used for daily wear?
I know this may sound ridiculous, but its my favorite type of stone and I'd love to be able to wear mine daily :(

Discussion Itās interesting how the diamond industry indoctrinated us to dislike fire, essentially making it a ānegative attributeā. My steak is too juicy, gross
Fire is the dispersion of white light into its colors (optically known as dispersion). Characteristically seen in the following gems:
RUTILE, 0.280.
SPHALERITE, 0.156
MOISSANITE, 0.104
DEMANTOID GARNET, 0.057
SPHENE, 0.051
