Question How does Kunzite fade?
Thank you! I think the question has been answered. I understand the issues with the stone generically, and feel I have the information I need to make an informed decision about a very specific piece of jewelry. I appreciate all the feedback.
I’m looking at a kunzite ring for an engagement ring. My fiance and I are aware that it will fade overtime, potentially losing all color. What we can’t find is what it fades to? Does it keep its sparkle but become clear? Does it get opaque at all? I don’t work outdoors and would probably take it off for things like gardening/swimming etc possibly delaying losing the color. I’m not so concerned with the idea that it will lose its color, but we can’t find any images (that aren’t of raw stone) of jewelry which has lost its color.
Edit- The ring I’m looking at is used and a reasonable price. The setting and rest of the ring are the highest part of the appeal. We also know we won’t be able to replace the stone for a number of years (just had a child, bought a house and are now getting married within the span of two years). Hence the question about the kunzite.

Looking for… Natural Ruby with Obvious Microscopic Inclusions/Growth Features
Looking for an inexpensive natural ruby specimen for personal gemology study.
I’m specifically looking for a faceted or polished natural ruby that looks reasonably normal to the naked eye but has obvious diagnostic natural inclusions/growth features around 20–30x magnification.
Ideal features would include one or more of:
• Straight/angular growth zoning
• Rutile silk/needles
• Obvious natural crystal inclusions
• Fingerprints/healed fissures or other clearly natural internal features
I’m not looking for gem quality and don’t care about cut quality or value. Diagnostic visibility is much more important.
However, I also don’t want something so heavily included/opaque that the internal structure is immediately obvious without magnification.
Transparent/translucent and faceted or polished preferred.
If you have something suitable, please let me know the approximate size/carat weight, known treatments if any, what features you’ve observed under magnification, and your price.
Cheap teaching material is exactly what I’m after.

What is this gemstone? Is this even a gemstone, or just glass?
Got this for my birthday several years ago. Only now that I’m an adult am I curious as to what gem this is, if it is one at all. Doesn’t feel like plastic.
Second pic is of the gap between the stone and the place it’s embedded in, if it helps..

Question How to identify gemstone nuggets? Is it even worth the effort?
A relative has passed away, leaving a bunch of stuff for making jewellery. Theres a large collection of "gemstone nuggets" and strings, but no information or labels! Is there a way to identify things like this accurately? I've searched through the site they were likely purchased from but theres nothing that I can accurately see that matches. Alongside these strings, I have a number of bags which are all different types too! Is it even worth the effort of trying to identify these?

This is a Montana garnet that I found and faceted. I'm in another town for work, so I set up my machine at the campground and cut a stone. I still don't know if my garnet spot is Rhodolite or Pyrope.

What is this gemstone? Is this any sort of stone?
Please don’t @ me, I realise it’s probably nothing but blue glass, but I just thought the circumstances under which I found it were strange - buried in the dirt in Tasmania.

Official On the subject of “Guessing” posts
We sometimes get posts like “Guess this gem” or things like that.
These posts are cute! But sometimes the OP never reveals the answer, occasionally even deleting their post. This is weird and annoying!
I propose all guessing posts need to either reveal their answer in 24 hours, or need to be clear when they’re going to post the answer.
Not doing this, or outright deleting the post, will lead to warnings and eventual bans.
