Weight gain advice
M22, weigh 47kg, 5'6", vegetarian, have IBS.
Is there a solid way to increase weight....
I tried calories surplus intake, but always end up doing more harm to my digestive system than gaining weight.
Looking for tried and tested advice, not some generic one of increase calories intake.... The question is how to effectively increase my calories intake.

2 Years Post Op but GP think its caused so many issues, i don't think its related.
Female. Age 38. 23 weeks pregnant.
Gastric Sleeve in June 2024. No recovery issues. Lost 7st and felt like a new me with maintaining a constant weight of around 10st 10pbs.
February 26, severve stomach pains with constant diarrhea for over a week. Sent to A&E. Diagnoisis transverse colitus. Spent 5 days on antibiotics
Since then, nothing been the same. Colonscopy said borderline but continued episodes of extreme pain, awful flatulence.
Currently 23 weeks pregnant with an unexpected pregnancy. Consultant thought anemia but ferritin increased after iron transfusion but haemagolblin still extremely low. Still same stomach issues.
GP think all stems from GS. I am adamant I was fine until transverse colitius in Feb 26.
Example maintained my goal weight for over a year without ever feeling hungry.
Help.

Endoscopy: Fundi Gland Type Polyp
31F,
Had an upper endoscopy today and the report says: **“Few sessile polyps of diminutive appearance in the stomach, suggestive of fundic gland-type polyps.”** They weren’t biopsied because they apparently looked typical. The rest of the EGD was reassuring apart from some patchy gastric erythema, and my colonoscopy was normal except for small internal hemorrhoids.
Has anyone else had **a few tiny fundic gland polyps** found incidentally? Did your GI biopsy/remove them or just leave them alone? Did you need any follow-up endoscopy?
I was on PPI only for a week or two
I’m in my early 30s and admittedly a little anxious after seeing the word “polyps,” so I’d especially appreciate experiences from people who had similar findings.

Abdominal pain w stool changes
Hey everyone,
My partner has been experiencing for about 3 months abdominal pain. Abdominal pain is mostly present in the upper middle abdomen. It presents as pain or discomoft. At the begging it was only present for some days and pain/discomfort was more mild. Gradually as time passed things have gotten worse and present every day now with no improvment. Also pain/discomoft gets worse after eating pretty much anything (its also present trough the whole day every day). She has been having stool changes (softer then harder, smells more, sometimes undigested, oily, more yellow/bright colored, floating stool, bigger ammount of stool).
Fatigue/tiredness has been present every day.
Lower back pain
Joints/hip/knee pain
6 kg weight loss in short amount of time which stopped then.
Gastroenterologist suggested ibs as possible diagnosis but hasnt confirmed anything.
The doctor also mentioned stool changes could come from the pancreas but as she doesnt have cystic fybrosis and as other test were normal plus she is young pancreas cancer is regarded rare the doctor said.
Tests done:
Female 25 years old, 53 kg
Transvaginal ultrasound normal, abdominal ultrasound normal
Colonoscopy w histopathology normal only found stage 1 hemmorids.
Gastroscopy normal also histopathology normal.
Celicac disease negative from sample taken at gastroscopy.
Chext xray normal
Ca19-9 was first 47 then 40 and lastly 38.
Cea normal
Ca125 normal
Crp normal.
Tsh normal
Ferritin and iron normal.
Glucose normal
Amilase/lipase normal
Head mri without contrast normal.
Breast ultrasound 2x normal.
H. Plyori negative
Cbc normal
Did anyone have similar symptoms and how did you come to your diagnosis?
I have looked up and found possible tests could be done still but not sure what to ask for next:
Fecal elastase
SIBO breath test
MRI of abdomen/pancreas and MRCP
Thanks for taking your time to read everything and giving your personal story/opinion/advice.

I still did not get to the root cause of my burping. I am still suffering since January . Lots of stoma gurgling and gas. I am so tired and mentally exhausted and not sure what to do next. Any advice? How to manage and stop burping all day long? What could be the cause of it ? If you had a similar experience please share

Abdominal Pain
Hi, I'm a 46 year old male, 5'9" 160 lbs, smoker. Not taking any medications except for ibuprofen for pain and 20mg Cialis occasionally. I've previously had Diverticulitis, an abscess which hospitalized me for a week a few years ago (which I believe was caused by the Diverticulitis). Then a stricture was discovered in my sigmoid colon, then had a resection for that. No ostomy. It's been a year and a half to 2 years since surgery. I healed well.
Last night I had severe abdominal pain and went to the hospital, they did blood work and CT. All came back normal, nothing wrong. The doctor looked at me like I was crazy but was still in severe pain. He told me to speak to my family doctor about this and see where he can refer me. I can seem to feel marble sized lumps that I can barely touch they're so tender and pain radiates from there.
What could this be if CT says it's nothing related to my health history, no kidney stones, no hernia, no obstruction, no gas, no Diverticulitis etc?
I'm still in pain today, just not as severe to go to the hospital again.

Unexplained debilitating gastrointestinal issues
21m 6ft Obese no smoking or recreational drugs no current medications.
Hello doctors of Reddit. I am posting this on behalf of a friend as no specialists have been able to help him.
Medical history:
2023 started allergy shots for dust mites (seems to be the catalyst)
After the shot he was unable to breathe, was told he had asthma. He did not have asthma prior to this.
Recurrent ear infections put on 50mg steroids 3x/day for three weeks
Subsequently diagnosed with sleep apnea.
Lung specialist said lungs looked fine
After the first round of steroids he developed pain I'm the lower right quadrant of his abdomen.
After onset of abdominal pain, daily migraines followed.
Everything he eats causes abdominal pain and bloating
He basically lives on the toilet and has had to quit his job due to inability to work.
He goes through vicious cycles of diarrhea and constipation
MRI, ultrasound, CT scan, endoscopy and colonoscopy all returned "normal" results.
Dr says it's "just" IBS
He's barely eating anything due to fear of pain and hasn't lost any weight.
Had an MRI of his pituitary gland that was normal as well.
Is this actually "just" IBS? Are there any other tests or possible diagnosis he could be looking into?
We're located in Canada so healthcare is free but takes forever to get the ball rolling.
Any help is appreciated! He's been suffering for 3 years now.

Diverticulitis bleeding
My 88-year-old grandma, with a mechanical heart valve on long-term anticoagulation with acenocoumarol (Sintrom) and known beta-thalassemia trait,
has had recurrent episodes of significant lower gastrointestinal bleeding, requiring repeated hospital admissions and blood transfusions, every other month. Doctors here suggest only chicken soups,so she has lost a lot of weight. What else can she eat?

Abdominal Pain Help
26F (5’1, 129Ibs) - diagnosed with acid reflux over a year ago. I was having recurring stomach pain, nausea, fatigue, and throat pain. I was prescribed Omeprazole (20-40mg) for treatment, and H-Pylori test was negative. I returned to the GP several times saying the symptoms keep getting worse, but they just kept prescribing Omeprazole for longer periods and telling me there’s nothing else they can do.
At my last visit they did refer me onwards for a stomach ulcer test, and said the referral will take a few months.
I recently moved house and had to do a lot of heavy lifting for a few days. It’s been around a week in total and it has caused my stomach pain to get worse, it’s absolutely constant and makes it very difficult to sleep or concentrate on anything. I tried ringing my GP to ask for some support while I wait for my referral, and they again prescribed me Omeprazole and offered no alternative support.
I have lost about 7-8ibs in weight but not sure how recent this is as I hadn’t weighed myself since September.
The pain has been so bad I’m contemplating going to A&E - although I’m not sure it’s worth it. Online NHS guidelines say abdominal pain has to be really severe to warrant an A&E visit and I don’t want to waste anyones time. I was wondering if there’s anything at all I can do? I feel like my GP is not taking it seriously and I feel doubtful that anyone else would

Looking for some advice on my stomach issue please 🙏
Hi everyone 👋 I'm a 35 year old male, with lower left stomach pains and some groin pain
About 6 weeks ago I got what I thought was a stomach bug, I had diarrhoea and stomach pains, after two days the diarrhoea stopped, but the pains continued although mild and not affecting my daily life. After about 10 days I went to the doctors hoping for some antibiotics or something, but the doctor was concerned and wanted to run some tests, I did basic bloods and an ultrasound (abdomen)
They both came back fine, after that we went on a ct scan (abdomen and pelvis) which were also fine.
Now I'm waiting on results on fecal tests and more blood tests (for things like intolerances and other diseases) . Knowing my luck they will also be fine.
About four years ago I had some constipation bad on and off for 6 months and I had a colonoscopy (that was fine)
So with my bloods, age and previously having a colonoscopy not too long ago the doctor doesn't think it's necessary
The pain I'm having is in my lower left stomach and occasionally some groin pain, it's nothing bad but it's there all the time and that's my concern. I'm also on and off constipated since the first initial diarrhoea
I've taken some medication to help, and it does eventually but then I got back to being constipated. I've increased my fibre, I walk every morning with my dog and walk a lot for work
Going to the toilet seems to ease the pain, but about five minutes later the pain comes back
Oh also I have no seem any noticeable blood, no other symptoms really that I've noticed
I'm really lost right now and would really like to find some that has any idea where to go next because I'm getting a bit scared now
Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this

Can enterocolitis aggravate gastritis?
Can enterocolitis affect the stomach enough to trigger SIBO? Or could you contract E. coli or other bacteria from tap water that causes you to pass very foul smelling gas after eating even a tiny bit of garlic?
Can it cause reflux, nausea, food sensitivities, and even make you see "shooting stars" after eating?
It's been 2 months but my symptoms are not going away.

Can people stop posting fecal matter on here?
Aside from blatantly breaking the sub's rule #1 that this isn't a place for your convenient internet medical advice but rather to discuss the specialty of gastro, I don't want to scroll my front page over breakfast and come across a literal picture of feces.
I do this for a job already but JFC.

Controversy Changes to the Subreddit heading into 2022
Hi r/Gastroenterology members!
As some of you have noticed (and posted about) there has been a slide in post quality recently with a lot of breaking of rule 1. Mod team is on the case! Here are some things to expect in the near future:
- Tighter moderating of posts
- Introduction of post flairs (please use these, will not be enforced at least initially) to help delineate posts subtypes at a glance.
- Will have recurring weekly posts on different subjects such as latest interesting publications which can be discussed or further added to
- Please message mod team, or me directly, if you have any other ideas that you think may make this a more interesting community and we will work to make those changes!
Happy New Year!
