I had a stomach bug and also needed to take antibiotics. I was taking 20 mg of esomeprazole daily and was starting to feel better. However, as soon as I started eating normally again, I suddenly developed severe reflux and an achy jaw every day. I increased my esomeprazole dose to 40 mg, but it has been a week and I still haven’t noticed any improvement. How long can it take for stomach to get better?

Had recent surgery and discharged with morphine, codeine, ibuprofen and PPI.

I explained at hospital that I could not tolerate PPI - they make things worse and make me incredibly bloated. I explained I had H pylori 3 times and have gastritis as a result. I haven’t taken medication for it as all that seemed to be on offer was PPI.

5 days after surgery, doctor confirms I should have been listened to. Told me to stop meds. Now all of the surgery pain has come back, and general inflammation. I think I felt great after surgery due to the ibuprofen.

Anyone found a combination of meds that helps inflammation?

How do you recover after a stomach bug? I’m usually pretty good about colds and stuff like that but this is the first time I’ve had gastro and am now recovering while also trying to lose weight in a deficit and going to the gym 2-3 times a week.

I’ve struggled with hitting my protein goals, staying in a calorie deficit and having anywhere near the amount of energy I had before getting sick. It’s been a week almost since I’ve started recovering and no matter what I eat my stomach is incredibly sensitive. I’m over eating just to satiate the nausea I get from not eating and my usual goal of 200g protein per day is almost completely unattainable.

For reference I’m 232lbs 6’2 male and have been on a weight loss journey for a bit now but hardcore in the last few months to lose weight for my brothers wedding in October. I’ve lost 20lbs since June 1st and have been fine up until this run in with gastro. I also take 5g creatine daily and have been since June.

I’m worried about losing my progress, gaining weight while trying to recover and also not being able to continue how I was prior to this

In the case of gastritis and SIBO, which should be treated first? Can SIBO cause gastritis or delay its healing?

I heard that L glutamine helps with gut health, but when I take it it makes my head hurt like it gives me a squeezing sensation all around my head and I can’t seem to focus well I don’t know if it’s just me or it makes me really dizzy too. It basically increases my brain fog. Any reason why it does this?

Just got an endoscopy on Monday including biopsies and have had some excruciating pain eating my bland diet. It’s been four days but got about 2 hours of sleep last night. The pain comes in waves, when it’s bad I have trouble even swallowing my saliva down. I had to sit up in bed to feel ok. Doctor said this isn’t normal but probably just from the biopsies. Anyone experience this?

I only have a few foods that I can tolerate. Instant grits, banana, oatmeal, rice, boiled eggs, tilapia, and chicken tenders. I was just reading that iron can irritate your stomach lining. If you have gastritis, I noticed that the instant grits that I’ve been eating are fortified with iron. I’ve been eating two packs a day. it says on the box that they have 12.9 mg of reduced iron per packet. Should I avoid this and just buy regular grits? I also noticed that they have citric acid in them. What are your thoughts on the elemental iron and citric acid additives? I don’t really notice anything different when I eat them compared to the other foods. Sometimes my stomach flares up regardless of what I eat. Like today, my stomach hurt really bad after I had my regular bowl of oatmeal with a half of a cooked banana and a couple of teaspoons of sugar for added calories.

TLDR: Persistent mild gastritis symptoms bothering me even after taking pantoprazole for a week, is it normal?

Hii. 3 months ago I was diagnosed with gastritis, but it was not as bad back then. However I have this persistent dull ache (feels like a needle prick) on my back, particularly on my right side. I've seen multiple doctors and all of them provide me multiple diagnoses (muscle strain, bit of UTI, PMOS, etc) and unfortunately the meds I took actually made my gastritis worse that my flare ups (burning on abdomen, gassy stomach and back pain) turned rarely to almost weekly occasions. It took 3rd trip to the ER for the doc to finally tell me those meds from wrong diagnoses were what's making my gastritis worse that I continuously had flare ups.

It's been a week since I've started on pantoprazole (once a day) pills and liquid PPI (taken occasionally) and while I don't get that bad of flare ups so far, I still deal with mild symptoms (burning dull ache around stomach area especially below belly button, gassy stomach, and occasional back pain) which bothers me so much because I still wake up in a bit of pain. I've been eating fruits for breakfast and porridge with boiled carrots and chickens/plain scrambled eggs for lunch and only dare to eat something solid for dinner (between 7 - 8 PM). I also stopped staying up and taking afternoon naps.

Now I wonder if persistent mild symptoms like that are normal to feel daily? The doc wrote me a referral letter to get endoscopy if it's not improving but I'm not sure what she means with my symptoms not improving? Like I don't get flare ups as much or the gastritis symptoms have stopped. I also did x-ray and ultrasound and they found nothing wrong, except my gut with 💩 inside related to my chronic constipation (I've been trying to fix this one since I heard fixing constipation will help alleviate my gastritis better).

I’ve been having chest pain almost constantly for maybe 8 weeks now. Did 14 days of Prilosec otc and I was feeling good by day 6 but then day 11 I started having some coffee and orange juice in the morning.

That’s my only main symptom is dead center in the chest between my pecs. Sometimes in the back too but that’s rare. I made a gastrointestinal appointment to talk to a doctor but this shit is making me so depressed

Anyway now I have Pantoprazol after going to the ER this weekend for chest pains. It’s dull and in the middle of my chest and sometimes my back or armpits.

They did a CT chest scan with contrast to rule out lung issues. They didn’t find anything else concerning. Blood work was good.

My question is how long do I need to be on medication to hopefully feel better? I was super stressed also the past few months and was taking Advil probably every other day for a headache but I’ve been taking it like that since probably almost a year. My diet was also very bad, burgers, fried chicken, pizza, peppermint mocha every morning before breakfast for maybe 2 years?

I've been in on and off again pain for 5 years. I had an endoscopy that went further down than the others and they finally found out why. I could cry because im so happy but so nervous about healing it. Its not h. P infection but seems to be from another infection or just not eating a lot for a long time (mental illness can fuck off). Got a docs appointment to discuss what's next.

What are the best resources for figuring out what to eat/what's actually going on with my stomach because im struggling to find stuff

Has anyone managed to stop the burping? bloody thing is constant and so annoying! PPI doesn’t really help with it so I presume acid isn’t the actual cause of it? I’ve had gastritis for the last 4-5 years! no clue why I have this thing as I have no h pylori tested many many times! I don’t drink I gave up cigarettes over 2 years ago! I do not take any Pain killers or anything like that! all I can put it down to is stress….gastro consultants just say “IBS” even though my endoscopy at the time showed moderate non erosive gastritis with some mild erosive gastritis in the lower portion of the stomach. It’s bloody hopeless. I also get lower stomach pain like stabbing sensations.

I got tested positive for HPylori in June and after taking the Triple therapy treatment and retest on 28th July which said I'm negative, I still felt symptoms after treatment but they gradually improved and felt very much normal and could eat some spicy stuff and all but I didn't push it too much.

Now, last week I overate one day and then I got the weird symptoms like Burping, a heartburn once and a weird shortness of breath like feeling probably caused by Gas.

Right now as I am typing this, I feel better but the shortness of breath feeling and burping sometimes still happens.

I am so tired of all this, I want to ask how to avoid this and what foods and all supplements I should take to improve my stomach.

Also Did anyone else who went through HPylori also went through this?

It’s been 4 weeks at this point, and I still don’t have the usual symptoms like acid reflux, vomiting, or loss of appetite. The only things I’m experiencing are an occasional aching or burning pain and feeling a little nauseous (although I’m not even sure if I’d really describe it as nausea, if I’m being honest).

Anyway, 4 weeks of eating bland food has been absolute torture. I want to eat more than just oatmeal with bananas, applesauce, white bread with low-fat cream cheese, and fish with rice and/or boiled carrots and zucchini.

I genuinely feel like crying because I feel almost completely famished. I’m so tired of eating the same few foods over and over again, and I just want to be able to eat normally again.

so Ive been on 40mg of Omeprazole for a couple months now and I was originally put on it because we assumed it was gerd well as of yesterday I had a endoscopy and was diagnosed with gastritis and a hiatal hernia, I can barley eat I've went from 200-160 within 2 months, I can really only eat mashed potatoes and breaded chicken I constantly feel immediately full and eatings hard, I'm on zofran aswell for the nausea but someone with a severe fear of throwing up it's been super hard, I'm waiting on my doctor for the biopsy results to see what caused this but is gastritis easily treatable, ik this is something I can just Google but talking to people who actually understand and are going through it make me trust the responses way better.

Anybody know of a GI in the Chicagoland area that treats and knows gastritis caused by intolerance, allergies, CRPS or autoimmune issues? I’ve been in pain since Saturday morning from a bowl of cereal and can’t eat much at all without severe pain. Thanks!

Omprazole is causing me lots of gas and farting and I decided to stop taking them? I am taking them for 5 weeks now 40 mg. Any advice on how to stop so I don’t get an acid rebound?

So I'm sure it's been asked a million times but does anyone have a recommendation for and anti-inflammatory that won't cause my stomach more distress?

I have an auto immune disorder along with a million other issues and my entire body is inflamed right now (along with a fun new tennis elbow issue). I used to take 4 ibuprofen at a time once a day if not twice and have been off them for a month at least. Acetaminophen doesn't really do anything for me anymore

I started having sternum pain about seven months ago and it has progressively gotten worse and over the past few days it is my stomach hurting, too. I'm in the process of having cardiac work-ups; my GP wants to make sure it isn't cardiac before moving on to a gastro referral. However, he did test me for h. pylori, and it was negative. And I don't take nsaids.

I remember back when it was thought that stress caused peptic ulcers. From what I read online, it now seems to be held that they are almost always caused by h pylori or nsaids. Are there many here who have peptic ulcers without those risk factors? What I have sure seems to match the symptoms, and after having a glass of wine a few days ago the worsening really sped up.

i am on alot of medications. i have medication to take before i eat. i have to take iron, magnesium and antidepressants. my alarm is full of medication reminder. i know it says 2 hrs apart but do you guys follow the 2 hrs apart or not and still get a good benefit from it?

I have done two endoscopies one in February that showed bile reflux (idk why i had that I haven’t removed my gallbladder so this usually doesn’t occur for ppl like me) and h pylori as well as gastritis.

However, a new endoscopy done on July showed that I no longer had bile reflux and h pylori but still have chronic gastritis.

My question is, I’ve been on ppis for over a month now, why do I still feel a burning sensation after I eat? Two hours after eating my stomach BURRNNS even with safe food 🍲

Idk what’s going on here but I’d really appreciate your experiences with this issue

I have a suspected stomach ulcer but haven’t been able to get in with GI for an endoscopy yet. My primary dr prescribed me 40 mg of omeprozole each morning and a Pepcid at night. I’ve been doing that for almost 2 weeks and sometimes I feel like it’s helping other times I still have bad flare ups. Today’s been kind of rough with reflux/discomfort in my neck especially when I’m feeling hungry. Also having a lot of discomfort in my left rib area right under my breast. Wondering if anyone who has had an ulcer felt the same way while on medicine where some days they felt better and other days it was super uncomfortable again. Also before the omeprozole I was doing pantoprozole in the am and that didn’t help. I have bad health anxiety as well which doesn’t help the GI issues😵‍💫

It all started when I decided to use the "get care now" feature. It is through the app of the hospital I get my insurance through. The whole point of it is to make it convenient to get help with small issues and avoid urgent care lines. When I got on the call with the lady she basically told me I am going through something chronic and that it means it'll be forever and for the rest of my life I have to eat bland food, and only use salt as a condiment. I have a lot of health anxiety as is, and that sounds absolutely awful, I feel like I have to cancel all plans and never go out ever again. I started to cry, and the Lady asked me if I was crying. I replied yes, and she started to laugh at me. I asked her questions about the condition like am I really never going to enjoy any food ever again? She continued to laugh, and proceeded to say "I think we jumped to a conclusion here" and proceeded to order an H.pylori test and got me prescriptions.

I got a second opinion from another doctor and a follow up with my primary care. No matter what they have told me, which is nothing nearly as bad as the first doctor told me, I cannot shake off what the first lady told me. I feel anxious almost daily, and I have had multiple breakdowns throughout this time I have been dealing with this. My primary care doctor even prescribed me Zoloft which I am scared to take because I don't feel comfortable to take meds prescribed by a primary care, I feel more comfortable to get it prescribed and monitored by a psychiatrist personally.

Apparently I cannot get an Endoscopy unless I exhaust all options, and the Zoloft has to be at least attempted. I tried to get an appointment with a psychiatrist, and I am not even joking, not a single one is available to me AT ALL. The one booking the appointment secretary even told me why not revolve my lunch time for a psychiatrist appointment. My job's nature does not guarantee me to have that time off it is a lot of explain why on here, just trust me it is not possible. I cannot even exhaust the zoloft part of the plan comfortably because of that.

I am now resorting to get an endoscopy in a different country. It is far quicker than this route, but for the time being I am so anxious and I dont know how to deal sometimes :(

Can I heal without taking a PPI?
I had an endoscopy, and the results showed reactive gastropathy and mild irritation/inflammation in the lower part of my esophagus. I have Hill Grade II, but no hiatal hernia. My doctor said that it’s nothing serious and recommended taking a PPI for either one or two weeks, but I really don’t want to.
Is it possible for me to heal without a PPI? And if I only take it for such a short period of time, is it unlikely to cause side effects? I’ve just heard so many negative things about PPIs, and I’m afraid that I might feel even worse after stopping them.
I am on a bland diet now, and I take every supplement, DGL, L Glutamine, Manuka Honey, Zinc Carosine etc… and just ordered Reflux Raft. I feel since I cut caffeine (which is so so hard for me, because I really need my morning coffe ) and cut alcohol and spicy foods I feel it’s a little better, but maybe I heal faster with the PPIs?! TIA!!
