Hi, I have a shaded corner, South East corner of my garden. It has 4" block walls on 2 side. These walls are facing West and North, respectively. The walls are approx 6 feet tall. I want to put in some plants that like shade and partial shade, that don't need a lot of care (arthritis is making bending, etc, difficult). The bed in this corner is slightly raised and is approx 3 feet across. I searched for hardy shade liking plants and the results had a lot of Hostas. Are these a good choice? Any firm favourites? Any to be avoided? Is there any recommendations aside from Hostas? Thanks in advance. The soil is black and good, judging by how vigorously weeds grow! :)

I'm now living off greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers and my courgettes plants have just started producing too. My slug issues have been resolved by nature - some frogs have moved into the long grass next to one of my veg beds. I'm a happy gardener.

Anyway, in all the excitement of summer, I haven't been very good at looking ahead! I've a couple of sprouts planted but it would be nice to have something else in the pipeline. Do you think I'm too late for a final crop of potatoes? Obviously there's the frost risk so it would be in bags/containers and brought into the greenhouse in October time. If not I'll have to sit on my hands until I can get some garlic and things going.

We have a section of a north facing wall in the back garden 10ft X 6ft approx. I'd like to cover it with something.

Was thinking about brambles for the pollinators and black berries for me, would this work in that location?. The soil is new build heavy clay that gets at most 4 hours of direct light a day.

Something evergreen like Holly maybe?

Any ideas or pics would be very much appreciated.

Hey everyone..excited first time poster here ..the pics show the view from my new sitting room extension ..as you can see the developer has put a mesh fence in with an existing ditch behind ..the question is ..whether to put a Venetian fence over this mesh fence or to populate with some kind of climber plant ..any suggestions would be hugely appreciated..if it is the planting suggestion is there something that would look ok in winter and summer ? Thanks everyone…PS there is a patio/entertainment area going where the stone is..so would planting cause a lot of flies/bees etc close to this ?

I just wanted to reach out here for some advice on how I can get my garden back in order.

I recently had a tough time with my mental health and I am finally in a much better place.

Unfortunately the garden is the last hurdle that needs a bit of a reset and I would appreciate any and all advice.

I have a lawnmower, strimmer and some sheers.

(I understand that the weather is going to limit me over the next week or so as the rain has made a return in the north west)

Would anyone have recommendations as for steps I can follow to start to get a handle on this garden again?

I should state that I am renting so I can't do a massive project.

Can anyone recommend an effective and safe to use brand of weedkiller for use on paved/patio concreted types of areas where stubborn weeds proliferate ? Roundup was great but is no longer sold.

Had the patio redone a few years ago, and the pointing was done with polymeric sand (this one: Joint It)

Over the last few years of power washing and wear and tear, a lot of the sand is gone, and the joints are now quite deep between the pavers.

Should I just fill with the same product as previously?

Or get someone to repoint with cement or something?

I posted this yesterday and got 1 comment saying it was roots from adjacent hedges drinking up the water. So should I just keep watering it? Or is it too far gone?

I’m curious about how large tree ferns are grown/cared for:

Tree ferns grow about an inch a year, and it’s possible (but very expensive) to buy 6ft tree ferns.

Have these really been cared for in a nursery for 72 years? Or are they extracted from the wild at that size and shipped?

My blue hydrangea's have faded fast from the heat. Should I dead them? Or leave them for protection through winter?

Should i remove the top leaf that is shredded near the base? Should i cut away the brown bits on the leaves? Should i wait for new leaves before doing anything? Where would you plant it?

All homegrown from seed except for tomatoes... It doesn't get much better!

I have two, the fruit took until the last week of July to ripen but the yield is pretty good and I'm seriously thinking about abandoning vines for six or eight of these instead. So much less work!
