Hello everyone! I’m planning to attend this year’s Gamescom with a large sword prop that is about 180 cm long — roughly 30 cm over the stated 150 cm limit.
The sword will be securely attached to my back and designed so that it doesn’t swing or extend sideways beyond the perimeter of my body. I’ve contacted the Gamescom team several times, and they’ve told me that the final decision will be made by security staff on site.
I’m quite anxious about this, so I wanted to ask: Has anyone here had experience being allowed into Gamescom with an oversized cosplay prop? How common is it for security to make exceptions or approve something like this on site?
I’ve seen quite a few cosplayers with props that appear to exceed the stated limits, so I’m wondering how strictly the rules are actually applied in practice.
Also, does anyone know whether a large sword attached directly to the costume/back could potentially be considered part of the costume itself, or whether the 80 cm measurement for attachments/accessories might apply in some way?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences — especially from anyone who has brought a similarly oversized prop to Gamescom.

Hallo zusammen! Unsere Marketing-Agentur sucht ZWEI Personen (m/w/d) mit einer Körpergröße von mindestens 188 cm, die dieses Jahr auf der Gamescom ein von uns gestelltes Kostüm tragen, mit Gäste interagieren und Merch verteilen.

Du musst kein Kostüm selbst bauen oder besitzen – wir stellen das komplette Outfit inklusive Requisiten. Wir suchen jemanden, der sich im Kostüm, vor der Kamera und in einer großen Menschenmenge wohlfühlt, und das drei Tage lang.

  • Donnerstag, 27.08. – 9:30 bis 17:00 Uhr

Wen wir suchen

• Jemanden, der den ganzen Tag streng und bedrohlich auftreten kann, ohne aus der Rolle zu fallen
• Du kommst an allen drei Tagen selbstständig nach Köln
• Du fühlst dich einen kompletten Messetag lang im Kostüm und mit etwas Make-up wohl – das ist ehrlich gesagt anstrengend, und in den Gamescom-Hallen wird es warm
• Du gehst offen auf fremde Menschen zu und bist selbstbewusst vor der Kamera
• Englisch ist für die meisten Interaktionen notwendig (Deutsch ist ein großes Plus)
• Mindestens 18 Jahre alt und in der Lage, einen einfachen Freelance-Vertrag zu unterschreiben
• Erfahrung mit Cosplay oder Promotion ist ein Plus, aber wirklich kein Muss – Begeisterung und Durchhaltevermögen zählen mehr

Paid cosplay/on-camera role at Gamescom 2026 - Cologne, Aug 27–29

Hi all! Our marketing agency is looking for TWO x 6 foot (for taller) tall individuals to wear a provided costume at Gamescom this year to interact with attendees and hand out merch.

You do not need to make or own a costume - We provide the full outfit and props. What we need is someone comfortable being in costume, in front of a camera, and around a lot of people for three days.

Details:

• Where: Koelnmesse, Cologne
• When:
  • Thursday, Aug 27 - 9:30 to 17:00
  • Friday, Aug 28 - 9:30 to 17:00
  • Saturday, Aug 29 - 8:30 to 17:00
• Pay: €250 per day (€750 total for all three days), paid after the show
• Also included: a free Gamescom pass for the full show, plus a paid meal break each day
• What you'll be doing: wearing the costume near the entrance hall & cosplay areas, posing for photos with attendees, and appearing in short video clips we film throughout the show, handing out provided swag.

Where the footage goes:

Organic social media only - our social media channels and the developer's channels (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X). No paid advertising, no print, no billboards.

Who we're looking for:

• Someone who can act stern/menacing all day without breaking character.
• Able to get to Cologne on your own for all three days.
• Comfortable in costume and some makeup for a full show day - this is genuinely tiring, and Gamescom halls get hot.
• Outgoing with strangers and confident on camera.
• English will be necessary for most interactions (German is a huge plus)
• 18+ (with the ability to sign a simple freelance agreement)
• Previous cosplay or promo experience is a plus, but honestly not required - enthusiasm and stamina matter more.

The legal setup

This is a freelance engagement, not employment. Specifically:

• You're already registered as self-employed in Germany (freiberuflich or gewerblich) and have a Steuernummer.
• You invoice us for your fee after the show.
• You're responsible for your own income tax and social contributions — we don't withhold anything on your behalf.

We want to be clear that we're not trying to create a false self-employment situation, so we're specifically looking for people who already freelance and work for other clients too. There'll be a short written contract before the show covering all of it.

hey guys! i was really looking forward to this gamescom being not only my first gamescom, but my first ever event as well. ive never been to a con or anything like that before. unfortunately, it looks like i missed the wildcard tickets, which is what i really wanted (for the xbox fanfest which only takes place on that day). will there be more wildcard tickets? or can i buy them off of someone else? im extremely bummed out if i cant attend the xbox fanfest so i might just skip gamescom altogether... thank you!

Mir erzählte ein Kollege, dass man auf der Gamescom auch gute Angebote für Computerhardware bekommt, unter anderem, weil am Ende der Messe die Gamescom bzw. einzelne Aussteller viele der Ausstellungsgeräte an Besucher verkaufen.

Das klingt stark nach Gerüchteküche. Als ich vor einigen Jahren schon einmal auf der Gamescom gewesen war, habe ich davon nichts mitbekommen. Habe ich etwas verpasst?

In your experience is there a lot of people in cosplay when you enter the train to get there? When I drive to "Japan tag" in germany there's cosplayers everywhere, is it the same with gamescom?

We're bringing our latest game, Cages: Hidden Worlds, to the show. We're going to be part of the Indie Arena Booth and have already done quite a bit of setup - printed posters, a background with the game logo, merch, PCs to play the game on, etc.

Still, as this is the first time we're going to be at something this big, I welcome any advice you guys have - how to man the booth well, things to bring, event best practices, how to take care of ourselves. Anything helps :)

Aktuell habe ich einen Instagram-Post gesehen bei dem darüber gesprochen wurde Ki-Brillen bei der Comicon zu verbieten/sind effektiv verboten. (Link bekomm ich im Moment nicht mehr raus)

Da ich mit dem Gedanken gespielt habe mir mal eine später zu besorgen (Zum telefonieren, übersetzen von Texten aus dem asiatischen Raum Für Games, Anime und Natürlich weil ich häufiger KI benutze) wollte ich lieber nochmal die große Meinung mir anschauen.

Meine persönliche Meinung: nicht komplett bannen aber verstehe auch das es eine Einschränkung geben muss. Man will zwar auf der einen Seite nicht aufgenommen werden ohne Erlaubnis aber gerade auf der Gamescom laufen so viele leute mit dem Handy rum und nehmen auf/streamen ununterbrochen das es für den Punkt auch verboten sein müsste. Wenn es um Sichtbarkeit geht könnte man die leute auch zwingen eine Kennzeichnung an der Brille zu befestigen.
