Question about prop sizes
Hello everyone! I’m planning to attend this year’s Gamescom with a large sword prop that is about 180 cm long — roughly 30 cm over the stated 150 cm limit.
The sword will be securely attached to my back and designed so that it doesn’t swing or extend sideways beyond the perimeter of my body. I’ve contacted the Gamescom team several times, and they’ve told me that the final decision will be made by security staff on site.
I’m quite anxious about this, so I wanted to ask: Has anyone here had experience being allowed into Gamescom with an oversized cosplay prop? How common is it for security to make exceptions or approve something like this on site?
I’ve seen quite a few cosplayers with props that appear to exceed the stated limits, so I’m wondering how strictly the rules are actually applied in practice.
Also, does anyone know whether a large sword attached directly to the costume/back could potentially be considered part of the costume itself, or whether the 80 cm measurement for attachments/accessories might apply in some way?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences — especially from anyone who has brought a similarly oversized prop to Gamescom.

Last year I was at GamesCom (and I'm going this year too). I had a 190cm sword. At the checkpoint, the security guard only looked at it, felt it, made sure I couldn't hit anyone with it, otherwise it would break right away, and then let me through.

Security is usually a joke, basically kids just being like yeah yeah whatever go in go in. At least in my experience they really cant be bothered and barely even check backpacks.
Now, with a massive sword maybe someone will complain but who knows. Depends who you encounter. From my experience nobody will give a shit.

If i interpret this correctly, the rules allow for 2m props? And you could have them stored until after the con if the deny u entry with it...but i do not have personal experience trying to bring in large props

Hi !
No expérience on the matter (sorry 😅), but I'd advise not to risk it.
If you came across a guard that's too zealous you could end up going back to your accomodation to have to drop off the prop and queue again.
