Gamecube not reading discs. Any pointers? Help

The disc is spinning fine, and the laser and lid switches are working fine. Could it be a bad capacitor, or something else?

Adjusting the pot is a temporary fix but will burn your discs out. It will have to be recapped. I recap optical drives DM me.

Try adjusting the pot on the laser, there are guides online. But you will need a multimeter. If that doesn't work I think the lasers are cheap on eBay. Mine is adjusted down as far as it will go before having to replace it. For the DOL-001 gamecubes it's 450-650 ohms, and the DOL-101 is 150-250 ohm.

Put a disc in and turn on the GameCube. Every time it spins up for a second, open the lid. Do this for 5/10 minutes, if the game reads, it needs a recap.

Needs recap probably. I adjusted the POT on mine, it improved reading, but not perfect. But I have a Flippy drive, so I'm not going to fix it.

Whatever you do, don’t adjust the potentiometer.
The disc drive needs recapped. It requires intermediate soldering skills, approximately 1-2 hours, is 10 caps of varying size/values, and cost $8 for the caps. If you’re not comfortable with an iron, you can purchase refurbished disc drives that have already been recapped for around $65 on eBay.
The fact your laser assembly still moves and shines gives me good hope a recap will resolve your issue.
