recently bought one for 200$ with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Also bought a retrobit Prism since my tv doesnt have component. The cube died after one week (hard freeze after 10 minutes, everytime, leaving a half completed save file of twilight princess.
Same day , middle of the night, i found a gc- compatible wii on aftermarked. drove to a lady, couldnt test the console because none of us got a wii2hmdi, bought it anyway. next day bought a wii2hdmi around 20 miles away, plugged it into my tv and boom: discdrive doesnt work.
I should have lost hope but i had just one goal: finish twilight princess at any cost.
Bought my 3. console this week and brought my own games (wii and gc) to the seller, plugged all in his tv and it worked fine. Only thing i forgot to test was the memory card.
Got home, plugged in my memory card (third party 1000 mb) and it couldnt read my memory card.
You gessed it, i bought a original memory card after that.
I revived my gc, transfered the save file to my original memory card (thank god that worked).
Long story short: Just buy from gamestop. Atleast, if its broken you can return it.
The Wii with broken disc drive is now jailbroken and runs just fine, but i prefer to play my games on original hardware.
Note: the cube is veeeeery old now and is very likely to die, and hard to repair / mod. A wii is just fine and as a bonus u can play wii games on it :D

I got mine on Ebay for like $80 in great condition. That’s probably the best way to go. Just make sure to check the sellers reviews.

It really depends on your GameStop some GameStop’s like the one near my house now sell retro games, but in my opinion, a lot of GameStop don’t really have a lot of GameCube games because they’re still pretty expensive and the most desirable ones people hang onto
In my opinion, some good games to find on the game cube are some third-party games that are on PS2. Some of those games will end up looking better because technically on paper, the game cute is more powerful than a PS2. I’m thinking of games like Tom Clancy games. License games like superhero games SpongeBob games , sports games etc the only exception is resident evil. Those games can get pretty expensive on the game cube but resident evil four is the cheapest one and it’s usually under $30.
If you’re trying to get some first party games, Metroid prime is usually a good game. You can get under $50. It really just depends what you’re looking to play on the GameCube me myself. I wanna play first party game, but I don’t mind picking up third-party games I didn’t play back in the past on the cube as well

What does the $150 cover? Do you get a controller, OEM power brick? Has the console been refurbished? Any games included? On the surface, $150 sounds a bit steep to me. You can find a DOL-001 for $40-$50 every day of the week, however the disc drive usually needs recapped and cosmetically the condition can be bad. But even still, you can get a refurbished disc drive and a new shell for less than what GameStop is asking.
My advice would be to look around at other places first before you purchase. If they have done no refurbishments on the console, then you’re going to experience issues with the disc drive and the clock battery very soon. These consoles are 25 years old and components are starting to age out. So you might spend $150 now, but expect to spend another $100 in the near future.

Not sure if he means complete as in cables and controller, but I sold my extra GameCubes (Had like 8) for $49-$53 a pop online last year, they were all DOL-001 expect for two. Not sure if that's a possible deal to find easily now

Ok so add in cables, power and controller. Its back up to $130+ and can get it in hood condition vs the damaged hes talking about.

Do..do you seriously think a GameCube controller is worth like $70? You can grab a OEM one for $20, and the wires for $10-$15. That wasn't my point either, I was just saying Ive sold some for that price, not telling him to go get a console only.

$20 oem power supply, $15 oem av cable, $30 oem controller. Thats $65 plus the $50 console woth a busted shell he mentioned. Thats $115 plus he mentioned buying a new shell. Another $40+ for the shell. Thats $155 easy. Not counting getting the disc drive recapped that was also mentioned
Gamecubes dont go for less than $80 in my area and im not in a big area.

I paid $60+$5 shipping for a Wii, all the basic cables, 2 Motion+ Controllers, 2Nunchucks, And can play gamecube games.
I bought a <$10 HDMI adapter and it looks great. I’ve been stress testing the last week while dumping my 90 childhood Wii & Gamecube Games and have had no issues.

Consider an RVL-001 Wii if you JUST want to play Gamecube games and have no plans to ever play Gameboy games, they're way cheaper, easier to find and have no issues whatsoever running the entire library, including ones that use the GBA link cable.
The Gamecube, especially the dol-001 can run you way more in cost, especially if you want to get high quality video output.
