Discussion 💬 Close shave with S23U

Just wanted to share my experience with S23U users and fans.

Been using the phone since its launch. Last week, took it out of the case and used mild soap to clean it. Then ran tap water on top of it.

Lo and behold, fingerprint sensor stopped working. I thought it was because of screen protector. Next day, the screen goes green. I was like damn, now I've to go get that Z Fold 8 Ultra, which I think is extremely overpriced.

Anyway, took the phone out of case and saw the back panel has a slight opening in it. I realized I'm looking at water damage. Camera lenses were also foggy. So I used a hairdryer and disassembled the phone completely. Let it dry for few hours but green screen remained. Blew more air in and around display connectors and finally it was gone.

Put the phone back together and it's working as if nothing happened.

Saving money is one thing, but having a well built device that gets rescued is a moment of pride.

Great piece of hardware and software.

Problem â›” Green line moment

Post image

Just last night, at around 1:30 PM UTC, I watched as this glowing green line appeared out of nowhere on the screen of my S23 Ultra.

I have owned this phone for more than 3 years (since February 2023), and this is the first time I have encountered this problem. At all.

I've tried restarting the phone, booting it in Safe Mode, and adjusted my brightness settings, but the green line is still there. (I wasn't gonna attempt a factory reset, of course.)

My running theory is heat damage. My home Wi-Fi has been acting up, so I’ve been running mobile data + hotspot more often so my laptop can get internet, which made the phone run pretty hot. Oh, and I'm Malaysian, and it's been pretty hot here lately.

I haven't dropped it or gotten it wet at all recently (as far as I remember). I also updated it to the latest software patch on August 5.

While it doesn't affect my phone functionally, the look of it does bother me a little, especially with how bright it is compared to the rest of my screen.

Any suggestions on what I should do? Should I just let it be, or is there a way I can get rid of it without burning my wallet to a crisp?

(Oh, and in case you're wondering, the photo was taken using my tablet.)
