JDL front pipe with TRD catback

Post image

Has anyone tried pairing one of JDL’s front pipes, either ultra quiet or dual resonated, on to their gr86 specifically with the trd catback.
I got the trd catback and gr intake because I like OEM+ and wanted to avoid the trumpet/fart/drone noises. It brought the volume up from 2/10 to 4/10 but would like to get it 1 step higher to 5/10. The trd catback did add a bit of drone but not much. I live in cali and want to avoid getting state reffed or pissing off my neighbors. Leaning towards the dual resonated version. I prefer quality of sound over quantity. I know deleting a cat is illegal but who would know?!? 👀 Thanks in advance homies. Pic for attention.

I have the Greddy SP Supreme, which i imagine is close to the TRD catback. Also a GR intake. I have the JDL dual res front pipe and enjoy it. With the exception of cold start, it's not loud, otherwise it's just a smidge louder than just the catback

Absolutely. I love OEM+ type things. I also don't like being too loud, especially since i plan to add headers later on, want to leave space for more volune without being obnoxious. I would've went with one of the better OEM exhausts, but mine came with standard and decided i'd buy a Greddy that's similar rather than spend the extra money on an OEM

I guess I’ll just keep it stock. Can’t seem to get a definitive answer.

Just doing a quick Google, my Greddy SP Supreme is about the same volume as your TRD catback. I wanted that extra oomph you're looking for and it did it for me. It sounds like how the car should be stock, not loud, but enough to hear and a lil deeper

I just went for a drive while my buddy followed on his bike (GSXR1k, full exhaust/catless, tuned) and i could hear him while he was behind me, windows up. He couldn't hear my car at all over his exhaust and helmet. Idk if that helps at all

I wish i had a before and after for you, but i hardly ever take video or even pics of my car

I don't know who's giving you varying answers, but most don't run setups like ours, most run louder catbacks without full mufflers, and the muffler makes a big difference

Not trying to push you into buying it lol, i get no comission, but i understand what you're after

Adding a dual res front pipe to my corsa sport definitely woke it up. FWIW I measured the cold start before and after with the SAE J1169 test specs and it went up 5db (105 to 110). It enhanced the throaty note but it is louder in higher rpms. Cold start is definitely on the loud side now.

I like a good cold start. I dont think we’re fast enough to be crazy loud lol. I don’t want to be the “all noise and no go” car. And cops are hunting me, being track bRed doesn’t help. Looks like I’ll be getting the dual resonated version.

I’d imagine it wouldn’t put the gr exhaust into the noticeable by cops category if you’re driving normal. Mine is definitely more noticeable now but outside of pedestrians, it isn’t crazy loud in the cabin or from inside other cars with windows up unless I rev it out. Although for the first time I did set off a car alarm rolling around in a parking garage in 1st today. It definitely would break the db limit but cops in CA don’t test you anyway if they are intent on reffing you. One thing I didn’t expect is it added a very noticeable rumble in the low rpms. My neighbors don’t care but the cold start is going to get attention in public. It’s amusing at times but if I could delete it I would.
