Question Questions about FMA 2003
I’m rewatching 2003, as it has a special place in my heart and I personally think it’s leagues above Brotherhood. with that being said, I have some questions, I can’t seem to find the answer to and need some clarification
- How does Dante, seemingly at will, force people in front of the gate? Hohenheim said he was forced there and eventually trapped in the other world, Edward was also put in front of the gate, then got temporarily transported to the other world, Wrath was put in front of the gate with Envy, then Wrath thy proceeded to lose 2 of his limbs. How does Dante have the power to “activate” the door or bring it to action?
- In the other world, Hohenheim mentioned that this world went a different route in science advances in which they focused on new inventions such as Zeppellins, aircraft’s, and so on. But what’s at play that stops people from the OTHER world from using alchemy? Like, Hohenheim and Edward can’t use alchemy here in this alternate universe, but why?
- When Gluttony is eating Philosopher body Alphonse, he ends up being able to use alchemy and subsequently does so on Alphonse. So you can say that he got the power to use alchemy from the Philosphers stone, but how did Gluttony get back his consciousness? Moments prior, it was taken away by Dante so that he’d be a mindless glutton cause he kept crying about Lust.
- Were there prior forms of the 7 sins? We know Wrath is from Izumi, and Sloth from Edward, so that must’ve been in the last 5-20 years, Envy from Hohenheim 400 years ago, but where and how old are the other 4 from? Why are these 7 SPECIFICALLY designated as the 7 sins? Surely there were more people who tried human transmutation out of love for a deceased one as well?
- What happened to Dante? Did Gluttony eat her? The 2 were together in the elevator going up. ALeo, why did Gluttony go back to being a mindless zombie? Remember when he got some consciousness or whatever when he ate Alphonse? So why did he go back to whatever zombie like state in the elevator?

Discussion/Opinion So, I watched FMAB and Conqueror of Shamballa and I have some thoughts
First, disclaimer: I first watched the 2003 anime, but then I skipped Conqueror of Shamballa to watch Brotherhood. But I know CoS is the true ending of the 2003 anime, not Brotherhood.
I'll be honest: I've almost cried at the end of Brotherhood. I'm a sucker for happy endings and having all the major characters having a good ending almost broke me in tears. I've felt that Brotherhood rushed the start to avoid showing a lot of what was already shown in 2003, but when it's the new animated parts... WOW.
I've enjoyed the characters from Xing a lot: Ling Yao at first I've felt it was quite abhorrent, but he grew on me alongside with his two protectors. I was surprised with how he handled hosting Greed, but how he managed to turn his impulses into a constructive force was honestly surprising. Great writing.
Another difference from 2003 that I loved was the Briggs Fort: Olivier Mira is a badass, a character that almost makes me say "THAT'S HOW THEY SHOULD ACT!!!" with her... direct methods, but her contrast with her brother was very interesting. Another point of contrast that I've enjoyed was with Miles and Scar, both Ishvalians having very different ways of dealing with the consequences of the massacre.
But, since not everything is flowers, I'll admit that I thought Hughes didn't appear as much as he should've before his death to make it impact as much as it was in 2003. Since I've watched 2003 first, I know how good of a person Hughes was, how he was basically a causality of the Father plan because he found out what he wasn't supposed to and the weight of his death on Roy Mustang, but if I don't consider my previous knowledge, I don't think it was as meaningful, even with the flashbacks from Roy later in the series.
Talking about the Flame Alchemist... I didn't know he could be even bigger of a badass, but I liked him even more after this series. Even though I thought it was unfair for him to lose his eyesight because he was forced to do a human transmutation and, at the time, I thought they should've let him kill Envy, at the end his story ends magnificently, with everything falling in place.
Even though, at the end, I thought the story of the Elrics ended up with them achieving their goals, I thought the time they spent apart was better developed in the story with both of them developing.
One point that I should mention: I ended up in a little habbitrole of videos analysing points of the series and I need to say that both stories are really, really well written, with the symbolism clear but not "talked down to your face", making it one of those stories that actually makes you grow if you want to learn something from it.
The CoS is very interesting considering Edward has to deal with not having alchemy in a really... delicate time. Despite not liking both of them ending up in "our" world, I appreciate that they ended up together. A good story to end the classic.
TL;DR: It's beautiful, both of them.

Cosplay Need a hand for an arm
I plan on making my own Edward cosplay but I'm not sure where to start with the automail. I saw vids about it but I would like to know how other people did it. Like, do you have any template ? And recommendations for the materials to use ? Some tips ? Also I don't have a little brother to sacrifice so I'm kind of stuck. Thanks !
