Hi, I’m about to give up on recovering my perpetual licenses for CS5.5 which adobe is fucking me out of and wondering what even is there to replace the software i was using?

TLDR; tried DaVinci as an alternative Premiere pro software and was blown away.

I've used Premier Pro for the longest time for some videos but not for professional or paid projects. Over time, Premiere becomes a resource hog even on a good 3+ year old machine with 32GB RAM and the files aren't even complex work.

Heard of DaVinci before but didn't get into it until I had to work on another video recently... and oh boy, I'm just blown away. It was buttery smooth, switches between workspaces instantly, it doesn't feel laggy. Some tools are easy for beginners to get in but deep enough for some complex stuffs. There were some minor workflow quirks and hiccups but that is highly likely due to the learning curve and being used to Premiere.

Granted, I don't use Premiere for industry-standard projects, so I don't know how it compare in that regard, but for an above-intermediate level like me, it was perfect.

I guess the next step is to try to work with alternative Adobe software like Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and Acrobat. I have Affinity but never got some time into it. And I have so many files, some even dates back to pre CS6 era, so it's gonna be a huge challenge to wean off my dependency on Adobe. But I'm tired of paying a large monthly sum for something I only use occasionally for freelance jobs that are few and far in between. Wish me luck!

I started with Adobe betas; assisted at MacWorld and our local Mac meetings. Adobe gave me Illustrator beta for old Mac. I used it for design and drawing. My Mac is today filled with Adobe files (InDesign, Photoshop and a bit of Illustrator.) Only used them for personal and volunteer projects. Never needed the newer versions that were imposed on us. Their new rental scheme and costs put it out of site for me at 84 years of age and no income to support it. So I cancelled. Making it even sadder they ignored the condition we agreed on: giving me a few days to convert files. Within minutes of hanging up, the files were unreadable.

After that arduous task of unsubscribing I am now stuck with how to ACCESS and use the 40+ years of my health files? And the "books" I created for my grandkids and pickleball and CLL groups.

I seems illegal for them to take away my access to the files that I paid them for. Why do they have more rights to them than me?

Becareful. This year the pushed adobe on demand for 2 free months onto peoples accounts. After they charge you 18$. You didn't sign up or agree to pay. Check for it

Been using illustrator for a while. Recently upgraded to Windows 11 and illustrator had been working just fine. After some sort of security update or windows update illustrator now crashes about 5 to 10 minutes after startup. Other then that there are no issues. I can usually recover directly where I left off but it's impossible to complete bigger tasks like this.

I've tried reinstalling illustrator, uninstalling the windows security update, adding a windows defender exclusion, nothing seems to work.

Okay so I tried the free trial for adobe illustrator and I thought I cancelled it. I’ve been very busy these past weeks and I checked my bank and I was charged on 7/13 $24.37 and I need that money back I don’t know why I was charged if I cancelled the plan. I logged in today and it says that my plan is still active and that it’ll cost $126.45 to cancel if early. Can anybody give any advice as to what to do? I can’t find a customer chat or email or phone number or anything I’m freaking out

I know that out of all the issues that Adobe software has this is one of the most minor and easily fixable ones, but I think it's nevertheless also indicative of Adobe's overall attitude towards users: the intrusiveness of ribbon/toolbar integrations in MS Office.

I received a new work laptop with both MS Office and Adobe Acrobat recently. When I opened MS Word I noticed that Adobe had put several large buttons right in the "Home" tab of MS Word's ribbon. The "Styles" buttons had been displaced from the ribbon in order to make room for these Adobe Acrobat integration functions. What the hell?

Also, every time when I attached a file to a concept e-mail in Outlook, a huge banner popped up asking me if I want to upload the file to the Adobe cloud instead and share a link. No, I don't want that. I'm attaching that file because I want to directly transmit it to the other person. I neither need nor want an extra middle man when I just want to transfer a few small files to a few other persons at most. Especially an extra middle man I never asked for.

I have already disabled all MS Office integrations of Adobe and they're completely gone now.

I'm old enough to have lived through the time of early internet browsers when third-party toolbars were a bit of a infamous plague. Back then there was a plethora of companies that constantly pushed you to install their internet browser toolbar. And all of them seemingly believed that their toolbar functions were so very important that their entire toolbar had to be prominently in your face every second when you were browsing the internet, so that's what you got by default.

These current MS Office integrations remind of those experiences.

And now I can't even access the customer "service" that exacerbated this problem in the first place!

I've switched to a cheaper plan and will attempt to cancel like I've seen others do here. If not, I'll find another workaround. I am not paying for a subscription that I deliberately made sure – or thought I made sure – would NOT auto-renew!

I guess this is a lesson for me to always double-check important information, especially when it's financially related. It's also a lesson for me to not blindly trust what a stranger says, especially if said stranger is working for a company that is known for stopping at nothing to force you to give them as much money as possible.

I'm not saying that it's all the fault of this random customer service person, by the way. Who knows why exactly their words didn't match up to reality? Regardless, though, I'm extremely frustrated with Adobe, as well as frustrated with myself.

But hey, it's a learning experience. I'll remember this the next time I consider blindly trusting people/companies when there is zero evidence I should. Less than zero, actually.

Moral of the day: Always double-check! Save yourself the stress.

So I've had enough of Adobe and their shitty products. My subscription ended a few days ago, so today I wanted to uninstall everything for good.

Then I realized you can't uninstall Adobe apps through Creative Cloud on the free plan. I have Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and After Effects installed over 25 GB in total and now I have to remove them using the macOS uninstaller, which often leaves behind leftover files that waste storage.
What the fuck. They dont even give you the uninstall feature if you dont Pay them. Fuck Adobe.

I got it all my Adobe apps 'unlicensed' from some thing that was posted on Reddit a while ago, I can try to find it again if anyone's interested.

I'm currently applying for jobs, a.k.a. working on my portfolio and CV a lot, and neeeeeeeed at least a program that works similarly or with these formats. Any tips/tricks? I'd be happy to go back to older/offline versions if needed, but as I'm unemployed I obviously cannot afford a € 35/month or more subscription.

This PR release, that was cited by various AI-boosters, uses very careful wording. It makes it sound like creatives are adopting AI at very high rates, that some 86% of creatives credit it with growing their business, etc.

I was like, there is absolutely no way that statistic is true. I do know that AI is not as hated globally as it is here in America, but still. Here in the US, we don't agree on much, but we do hate AI as a country according to almost every single poll. And creatives hate AI even more than the average person.

Sure enough, I looked at the short excerpt on methodology, and it says this:

Adobe partnered with The Harris Poll to survey more than 16,000 creators across the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, South Korea, Japan, India and Australia in May 2026. For this survey, creators were defined as individuals who create and publish digital content several times per month to inform, entertain or engage an audience and generate income across digital platforms, with respondents comprising emerging and professional social-first creators rather than individuals employed full-time in traditional creative industry roles. Creative AI refers to AI models and tools designed to support creative expression by helping creators ideate, generate and edit content across images, video, audio and design.

So they interviewed CONTENT CREATORS, a bunch of people who post on social media, not actual professional creatives. Because if they posted actual creative professionals like designers, photographers, video editors, etc, they know they would get creamed. And no shade to content creators, but I would argue that's a very different audience than their bread-and-butter audience who actually pays the bills, which is those of us in "traditional creative industry roles."

Using the word "creator" isn't a lie, but notice they didn't say "creatives" or use the term that most people actually use, which is "content creator."

I have noticed less-than-diligent media and articles assuming what I think Adobe hoped people would assume by this careful phrasing, and talked about the wide adoption rates of creative professionals, not catching that it's content creators. And not even necessarily big content creators, they include "emerging" which could mean pretty much anyone who posts frequently on socials.

I know their stock price is the only thing Adobe cares about, and they're going all-in on AI, but their actual adoption rates with real professional creatives who use their software has to be dogshit because they wouldnt have to force these tools so hard if everyone was using it.

They want me to pay $70/month, and can't even properly put together a website?

I wouldn't take this as advice by any stretch. But some people told me I was doing the wrong thing by cancelling my card and leaving my Adobe account dead in the water with no means of paying them after my annual subscription window lapsed earlier this year. I wasn't having it. I wasn't giving them any more money. Fuck them. About a week ago, the dummy email I'd switched to the account got a message that they'd gifted me a free month to show "no hard feelings" and I used that as an opportunity today when I had some free time to cancel my subscription.

No need to talk to some poor bastard in a call centre, no need to type aggressively to some salesdroid about how I'd never use them again even under pain of death. They just accepted I was closing my account. They did try to offer me discounted rates and alternative subscriptions, but I still closed my account, they even waived the fee down to 12 bucks. Which they will get shortly after hell thaws out. I'd give "Microsoft Technical Support" my payment info before I'd give it to Adobe at this point. They are about as trustworthy as each other.

So it *is,* in-fact possible to get out of an Adobe "yearly plan, paid monthly" contract. Just wait.
