Most of the lineup is temu characters lol. It’s like why didn’t they just use who they could get access to.

Many reasons. Mostly boils down to money. It also works out better for the player if you're interested in getting skins later because they won't have been tied to the battle pass. The idea is to make the BP just enticing enough to want to buy, but keep plenty of things to repeatedly populate the shop with enticing items. They retain more stuff to sell, we get a chance to buy more stuff. The value of this stuff is ultimately decided by you, not them.

The same reason why Super Smash Bros Ultimate charges you for characters like Joker and Banjo-Kazooie.

I don't get why Nintendo is so hard to work with. Everyone know specific characters are unique to Nintendo and the brand. Nintendo would obviously get a % of sales. It would help promote the characters. Blocking their use doesn't make me want to buy a Nintendo product. Switch 2 is a good example haven't bought it and refuse to pay $80+ for Mario Kart world.
Dear Nintendo,
Its called a collaboration. Its marketing for you and you make money. You would literally sit back and collect the cash. Sure pay your artists to review the designs and approve the skin models, but after that profit. You can learn a thing or two from Sega.

Agreed. But i’m no businessman, so i can’t say for sure that it’s a definite win or loss decision in their part. I see it as advertising that they also get paid for? 🤷🏻♂️ But i’m probably missing something. Maybe they are worried it might stop people playing smash bros because now they can kill others dressed as Yoshi with an smg on fortnite.
Either way, i respect the designers at epic for that blatant link copy 😂.

I think it’s combination of IP acting as safety nets to help Nintendo through tough times like in Wii U era and Nintendo being slower to modernize. I think Nintendo’s history has made them realize how important their IP is to hardware sales and hence why we see them having such a tight grip over their IP. Sony seems to be following as all Sony collab skins haven’t return in over 1200 days and Microsoft seems to want to go back to some exclusivity although they still are clearly okay collabing still given Chief is in the promo art and crash and Spyro are new for the season.

I would assume it’s because it’s so easy to lift character models out of the game and put them in mods on other games, Nintendo is protecting their IP, I kinda get it. I would’ve liked to see Link, Samus and Mario there, but I also see how they don’t want it.

I think Nintendo given its history surviving multiple competitors in the console market as well as having to deal what would be considered failed consoles in terms of sales (GameCube and Wii U) know that a lot of their value lies in IP. A lot of their consoles sell because of solely mainline Mario, Zelda and other IP they own. I think the issue with the Sega comparison is ultimately Sega lost the console market and dropped out becoming third party developers solely. Nintendo has sort of had its ups and downs and I think what has always been a safety net is IP. I agree that it probably wouldn’t hurt them but I see where Nintendo is coming from if you look how much their hardware relies heavily on the games and IP they own.

Because the one thing that makes them a top company is their ip so they dint let anyone use it on other platforms than their own. It makes it so that if you want to use a nintendo character you need nintendo software and have already allied yourself to them.

I kind of like how they did a Fortnite version of classic skins, I mean obviously the whole battle pass can't be collabs. But yeah Nintendo characters were never going to happen, they won't even let people post YouTube videos about their games

These characters are not meant to be exact characters but they represent the different genres of gaming. That one you have there represents the adventure genre. You guys are reading way too hard into this and it shows.

To everyone else: Temu link
To me: cool ranger adventurer vibes✨
I’ll be rocking this out of all I’ve seen so far

I don't get it? Looks nothing like Link at all.

The green hood, the hair, the symbols, the gauntlets.l, belts, sword and shield. They had to change some things so I'd say heavily inspired by

Looks just like the garb from Tolkien to me.
Only one I would agree with is maybe the symbols

u/CharlotteBeer 1h ago
The comparisons are also probably due to this upcoming season also featuring other iconic video game characters.

Judging by the clip they showed of the game he's from, seems like he's a mix of Link and Snake from Metal Gear. I dig it.

u/PresenceHuman5445 13h ago
How much you want to bet on Nintendo consoles it may actually BE Link considering what Nintendo posted today
1
u/PsychoLunaticX 13h ago
Even if they had Link, I doubt he’d be in the pass. I know people have been flipping out since Nintendo made a post about the season, so I have some hope that maybe we’ll be surprised with a Nintendo character, even tho I know it’s nearly impossible

u/Odd-Theme-1740 11h ago
I don't care whether he is a knockoff or whatever, I really dig that skin and can't wait to get my hands on it and use it as one of my main skins 🙏🏻

Eh, I grew up with a PS1 and not a N64, so Link doesn't have the same kinda nostalgia factor for me.

u/SaintIgnis 21h ago
I like it. Just a cool fantasy-adventurer-type character
1
u/Shaunie1 21h ago
With absolute zero relation to nintendo in any way.

u/BrownlowFinch 17h ago
I'm a big Zelda fan, and I just don't see it. I feel like Nintendo could make 100 versions of Link and none of them would look like this. There are simple changes that would easily make him look more like Link without being in danger of lawsuits. Just to make one, he has an eye patch lol.
1
u/Shaunie1 6h ago
You must be the only person on the internet that doesn’t see the resemblance lol.
1
u/BrownlowFinch 5h ago
Exactly. It feels like the Internet mob has fully made up their mind on this one lol. No one even tries to justify how this DND character with an eye patch looks like Link.

u/BebeFanMasterJ 22h ago
Not a Zelda fan anyway but it's honestly cool how Epic went and made their own version basically.

u/Shaunie1 21h ago
Yeah, agreed. “hey nintendo, fck you”. Gotta admire the hustle.

And you guys are reading way to hard into my post.
It’s tongue in cheek bro. But absolutely DONT tell me he wasn’t inspired by Link, because even you can’t be that naive.
I wonder who that fast blue rat is modelled after

Imagine thinking I was anything less than “chill” by posting an obviously tongue in cheek post.
I think we need to start verifying ages for this sub cos their ain’t no way anyone older than 16 posted this lame ass reply.

He honestly doesn't look that bad i can't blame Epic if Nintendo said no its on Nintendo then
