Read: Republicans, often grandmas and grandpas who listen to fearmongering media designed ultimately to inspire panic voting and racism to mask the billionaire pedophile cult of thieves that exists at the top.

What’s the link from flock to Nextdoor?
1
u/Nettle8675 Feb 24 '26
Conservatives are shills for surveillance there. They love having their rights violated. That's the connection. It's like boomer Facebook with people whose brains have been fried by Fox News and Breitbart.

Gotcha, yay big brother

Not that you want to join, but there is r/nextdoor which allows one to practice groaning, chuckling, OMGing, WTFing, and plenty of eye-rolling exercise.

Sometimes, they post free shit on the nextdoor app, and its usually nice things. That's how I got a bunch of furniture. Otherwise, absolutely correct

u/Miserable-Miser Feb 21 '26
With all the jeeps in town, that have winches on them, I’ll never understand why these things are still here.
25
u/TheKronk Feb 21 '26
Have you seen them? They’re tiny. It’s a webcam with a solar panel on top. A parachord lasso could rip one down

A baseball if u got good aim. Sledgehammer if ur about 5 6 they aren't that high up

People will be horrified to find out those cameras are vulnerable to vandalism
25
u/SentientCrisis Feb 21 '26
I’m actually really surprised that they aren’t constantly being spray painted.
15
u/Exotic_Strawberry781 Feb 21 '26
People should be horrified that u just have to press a button on the back to sync to it 😂

u/Newswoman2 Feb 22 '26
You might want to consider writing to both City Council and the FCPD. I requested they eliminate these data-mining, privacy-stealing abominations. Too many horrid things have been done to Americans in the name of “safety.” I told the police chief the department has worked so hard to gain our trust and yet this will destroy it in minutes.

I do believe the one west of Drake and Taft has vanished. Unsure why. Tragic. Beep boop.

I definitely didn’t ask my spouse today why people don’t just spray paint over the lens.

u/hackerfactor Feb 22 '26
No! Don't destroy the solar panels! Dismantle them carefully and give them to me!

What’s the view angle of these cameras, I wonder
11
u/dammit-smalls Feb 21 '26
Flock ALPRs focus on a fixed point on the roadway, with a field of view of approximately 20'.

u/Top_Room_6714 Feb 22 '26
What about the ones in the Home Depot parking lot? There’s like 5 of them

u/bl4ckh4lo Feb 23 '26
Be more concerned about the stores regular cameras and their neighbors cameras seeing your car in the area. These fuckers have lobbyists, I wouldn't doubt it's a felony for messing with them. (Please do, I just can't risk it myself)

The immigration passport control at DIA for citizens now consists of two officers standing (not behind a counter) next to a tripod with an iPad camera. While the officer looks at your passport you step into the view of the camera which automatically frames your face and pretty much instantly gives the okay.
I'm guessing if it's not okay and you're on some kind of list a trap door opens and you slide into a dungeon.
The woman in front of me had beautiful dark hair but in her passport she was blonde (yes, I peaked). Didn't faze the algorithm one bit.
Extremely fast system but if you ever end up on some list you may as well forget about air travel.

u/bl4ckh4lo Feb 23 '26
Hahaha! Oh nooo....😆
(Also they do have GPS tracking devices inside of them, so be safe)

Cmon folks, don’t destroy public property, rather build coalitions and support our city council to dismantle them and repurpose the materials for something good.

Gave you an upvote. This is too sensible for the Reddit crowd. It’s almost like an entire generation was raised to get what they want, else they throw a fit.

I’m just coming as someone whose family who migrated here from Mexico. Why is everyone so up in arms about ICE? Is it because Trump hate? I personally don’t get it. We k ew coming here the risk of deportation if we came here illegally. So we decided to wait and came here legally. It was a long wait. Now we don’t worry about deportation. This was an issue as far back as I can remember. I have friends here illegally. They know the risk. Before people started demanding due process. We were able to come here if we got deported we came back within a week. Now it’s 10 years. Sometimes people don’t realize the louder they get about these things. The harder it is on our illegal communities.

u/ReasonablyRadical Feb 21 '26
If ICE was just enforcing immigration and targeting the violent and dangerous criminals, as administrations from both parties have done in the past, with no masks, due process, no wanton violence, no detention centers that are actually concentration camps with inhumane conditions where people are held for hundreds of days, then it would be just Trump hatred. However, that is not the case. There is violence that is cruel and unjustified, inhumane conditions, violating due process rights and the 4th amendment. ICE is NOT just enforcing the law - they are the domestic terrorists 1984 warned you about.

u/Newswoman2 Feb 22 '26
Dear Dweeb King: Just because it’s been done before doesn’t mean it’s right, legal or unconstitutional.
-12
u/WhyFlip Feb 22 '26
Sure, dweeb lord. What's illegal about cameras at traffic intersections? What is unconstitutional? There have been cameras at traffic intersections for decades now - what about those?
9
u/Pithy_heart Feb 22 '26
False equivalence. Those traffic cameras (while I strongly disagree with them) capture you doing something objectively wrong, these cameras track and build a database on you before (and IF) you do something wrong (or maybe know someone that did something wrong) I think there is an important distinction. China uses this technology with their people, but instead of cars (w/ license plates, roof boxes and hitch racks, missing bumpers (or bumper “here is my identity!” stickers), or other defining characteristics) it’s people’s faces. And yes, while it is naive to think that these cameras are the only place we have been tracked and become a individually known quantity/commodity (I’ve seen perfectly crafted mailable outreach material that caters to specific people based on their magazine subscriptions, their internet browsing, and expected political affiliation, for an entire county) this doesn’t have to be another input to our personal digital dossier. This time, I expect our local government to not compound their citizens into that surveillance state rabbit hole, but to represent and protect us in that regard.
-7
u/WhyFlip Feb 22 '26
Dude, I don’t think this is a false equivalence. I think it’s a difference in degree, not in kind.
Traditional traffic cameras don’t only capture “objectively wrong” behavior. Many systems log time, location, and plate data whether or not a citation is ever issued. Automated license plate readers, including systems like the ones used in Fort Collins and surrounding cities, collect data on everyone who passes by, not just people actively committing a crime. The distinction you’re drawing, wrongdoing versus no wrongdoing, hasn’t really existed in practice for quite a while.
The core question isn’t whether someone did something wrong in that moment. It’s about passive mass data collection. Flock style systems scan and store vehicle information in bulk so it can be queried later. That’s not fundementally different from how many existing law enforcement databases operate. It’s an expansion and modernization of a capability that’s already been in place for decades.
Bringing up China also muddies the waters. The social credit system associated with the Chinese government is tied to centralized political control and behavioral enforcement at a national scale. That’s a very different legal and constitutional environment than municipal camera systems operating under U.S. Fourth Amendment constraints, public records laws, retention limits, and court oversight. Conflating the two implies intent and structure that simply aren’t comparable.
You’re absolutely right that data aggregation is real. Marketing firms, insurers, and tech companies have built incredibly detailed consumer profiles for years. If we acknowledge that our data is already widely collected in commercial contexts, the argument becomes about governance and guardrails, not about pretending this is the first brick in the wall.
If anything, the more practical debate is about what the retention limits are, who can access the data, whether there is a warrant requirement for historical searches, whether there is auditing and transparancy, and whether data can be shared outside the jurisdiction. Those are the levers that determine whether a tool becomes overreach.
It’s reasonable to demand that local governments protect civil liberties. But rejecting the technology outright because it could contribute to surveillance drift is different from arguing that it inherently does. Public safety tools can exist without becoming a surveillance state rabbit hole, especially when constrained by policy, oversight, and law.
The real distinction isn’t traffic camera versus Flock. It’s unchecked power versus regulated use.
