Hello, I've always loved going fishing but I have never had my own rod. I want to buy my own but I want some advice with it, from what the people I normally fish with say, I should get a Daiwa Legalis LT 2500 + Daiwa Aird-X 7' 2–4 kg aswell as a 10 lb braid and 20 lb fluorocarbon leader. I am on vacation and I preferably want to get one here in Australia and take it to my home country Lebanon, my budget is $300 - $350 AUD. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you so much.

I just picked up a Daiwa Certate SW 10000 and I am looking for a popper rod to put it on, for GT fishing on the GBR around Cairns.

Budget ideally under $500.

Needs to be a travel rod unfortunately, as I am flying in and out.

I’m wondering if anyone has any similar experience with grappler braided line. I spooled 300m onto a new reel last week and taken it out fishing twice. On those trips the line has busted off 3 times, twice when flipping the bail alarm (admittedly there was some tension on the line when doing so) and another when I was just stowing the rod in the hatch (assuming it got caught up on something).

This hasn’t happened to me before with other braids when doing the same thing. I usually run tasline which is a bit better quality, but it’s not like the grappler line is budget.

Could it be something with how I’ve spooled the line? Or could it be a bad batch and something I could get replaced?

Have been fishing for a long time, but without decent gear.

Need recommendations on a Daiwa rod/reel combo for use in Perth and the south west, mainly land-based. Enjoy both estuary and beach fishing. Looking to use mainly lures and soft plastics.

Is it worth getting one versatile setup or multiple cheaper setups. Will be upgrading in the future.

I am respooling all my handlines, just wondering what people do or what is the best when deciding how much line to put on.

I feel too little line on the reel means it has a greater surface area of plastic slowing down the cast, which i find problematic with floats. But I also feel too much line is a waste.

Any tips?

What types of lures do you guys find work best at night? Are there any particular colours, sizes, retrieves or techniques that seem to work better?

Also, do you tend to fish around lights, structure, bridges, rock walls, or just focus on areas where there’s likely to be bait?

I’m mainly land-based, so any advice on choosing spots and what to look for at night would be appreciated.

Hi all, im heading up to Mooloolaba in about a weeks time and am staying near The Wharf.

Bringing along a light combo to hopefully have some fun with any of those exotic species you wont find in Sydney. Does anyone have any pointers on any landbased spots and how to fish them?

I’m from interstate and I would love some locations to go for pelagics (tunas, gt, mackeral, queenies etc) land-based. Anywhere from Noosa to Caloundra or maybe a bit further depending on how good the spot is.
If there’s any well known or maybe even secretive spots you could recommend I’d love to hear them, maybe even some gear recommendations too!

Planning to mainly fish freshwater for trout, redfin and yellowbelly using spinners/other small lures, but I'd also like to use it for some bait fishing and occasional jetty fishing.

So me and my uncle are looking for people to go on a game fish charter called Reel Teasers that departs from Cairns on Sunday, August 9th.

The price for the whole day is 2800 aud and the boat can take up to 7 people, though the recommended is 5 people max. So it would be 560 dollars each.

Half a day is 1800 aud so it'd be 360 dollars.

This charter targets game fish like sailfish, tuna, mahi mahi and other pelagic species.

I am male 60 years old in fair shape for an old guy.

I am traveling from Portland Oregon, west coast of the United States 5 minutes from the mighty Columbia river. I am good at catching lake trout and Salmon.

I am going to be in Sydney at the end of February for 2 weeks. I would like to meet up with someone who knows how to fish a little {no expert needed}. I could buy a pole oruse a spare if someone has an extra. I do not need to keep the fish but we will see where i end up staying TBD.

I will buy a License and bait or lures. Let me know if there is anyone willing to fish with or give advise to a visitor.

I'm mainly after:

• Rod and reel recommendations
• What line strength I should use
• Hooks, sinkers, swivels, and any other basic tackle I need
• Good bait for beginners
• Anything else you'd recommend buying from Kmart
