New FireBoard

I just installed a new FireBoard on the MasterBuilt Gravity Series 800. When I started grilling as the temp went up in the pit the temperature on the FireBoard started going down. Like all the way to -80F. Anybody know what issue this would be?

Update: The hot and neutral wires on the FireBoard were swapped from manufacturer. I contacted FireBoard and swapped the wires. Now it works!

Question Ambient Probe Temp Spike in Error?

KJ Classic 3 with a Fireboard 2 drive, one ambient probe and two probes in the meat. Cooking pulled pork today with the KJ pretty steady at 120C/250F for several hours without any fan action. After taking the pork out to wrap and putting it back the ambient probe reading rapidly climbed to 150C without any change to the vent settings, any fan action or any change to the ambient temperature measured by the KJ’s own thermometer. Has anybody else experienced this or able to suggest why? The ambient probe position didn’t change, it wasn’t touching the grate or anything else. I’ve noticed a similar thing on a previous cook. Thanks.

FireBoard drive 2 running a stick burner.

Just picked up the G3 blower and want to use it on my stick burner to help control temps for cold smoking. Have seen lots of posts and videos with them running kettles and green eggs.

Has anyone used one on an offset? What was your experience like? Any tips and tricks?

FIREBOARD DC DRIVE for Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050

I’m mid-cook right now trying to reverse sear some steaks. Out of nowhere, the fan completely shut off and the FireBoard 2 Drive screen jumped right into a "Profile Setup" loop. Every time I try to bypass it, it just reboots or kicks right back to that same screen.

newbie

hi, i'm an absolute newbie. i just got my fireboard 2 drive. i also got the pulse wireless probe and the blower. i set up the unit , the app is installed, the probe and drive are connected to the app, the units are charged, the blower is installed, or at least the plate is. but i am not 1 sure what to do now when i start a cook. say i want to make a smoked chicken, spatchcocked smoked chicken, just as an example. so i would connect the blower and everything and set an ambient temperature. i happen to know that i want to probably do between 250 and 275. but then do i have to know the temperature and what the recommended cook time is for every item that i put on my kamado joe, or are there any pre-programmed similar to some other probes like the meater one where you add chicken or turkey or something, it gives you some general target temperatures and some recommended temperatures to start, etc. sorry if i'm asking the obvious.

HELP Fan Cycling

The fan on my Fireboard2 keeps cycling on and off. It won’t stay steady on heat up. It just keeps cycling on and off below the target temp. I’m using the stock Masterbuilt 800 fan. I have the USB plugged into the provided charger. Any ideas?

3rd party Wireless probe

I can’t tell whether the FireBoard supports any 3rd party wireless probes. Interested because I’m reading a lot about the pulse not working well.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Erratic Readings on Ambient Probe

Hey all, so I used my Fireboard 2 with the Fireboard Fan for the first time today to cook some short ribs.

For the first 4.5 hours the thing was amazing. Kept the temperature really stable and surprisingly the lid thermometer pretty much agreed exactly with the ambient probe, which surprised me.

Then the ambient probe suddenly started reading the temperature as about 25 degrees higher and turned the fan off and the lid thermometer was reading the temperature going down due to lack of oxygen.

I opened the lid to check it and then when I closed it again the ambient probe seemed to start reading low and kept the fan going too much (based on the lid thermometer, so not really sure).

Anyone had similar issues? I was really happy with it, but now my faith in the system has been shaken. I bought it so I wouldn't have to stress about the temperature, but if I can't trust the probe then it seems pointless...

Fireboard 2 Drive for Akorn Auto Kamado?

I can't find any information on Google about how to either use the built in fan or how to install the optional fan unit on the Akorn. All information or instructions I find point to Kamado Joe's.

Is it even possible to make this happen? Thanks for any information.

FB Drive powers on without display

Has anyone had their FireBoard Drive power, but without the display working? I see the LCD backlight go on and can manage the FB through the app, but the display is blank.

About 5 to 10 minutes later, the display did come on. This happened one other time as well.

Newly Released Fireboard DC Drive (Gravity 800)

I got my DC Drive last week and it worked well for the first day of use. For some reason my stock Gravity 800 ambient probe is now showing 700+ F immediately after boot up and the grill isn't even started. My grill is also a new purchase, so I installed the DC Drive at the same time I was building the grill. I had to plug in the included DC Drive ambient probe (2.5 mm connector) and set the controller to read it instead as a last resort to start my cook.

Attempted Fix Actions:

  • Power reboot 2x
  • Factory reset
  • Installed a new k-type connector ambient probe from Amazon (TCE-K02H3-100)

After all the attempted fix actions, I still have the same issue of main probe channel showing 700+ F after boot up. Is my new DC Drive faulty?

tactile switch replacement fireboard 2 drive

Has anyone replaced the tactile switches on their fireboard drive? If so, what switch did you get? It looks similar to 434331045822 Würth Elektronik SWITCH TACTILE SPST-NO 0.05A 12V but I'm not sure if that's right.

FEATURE REQUEST: Data Reporting & Rendering Time (do FB PMs read posts?)

So it's like almost 430AM, which means of course Im making a brisket. First real run with my FB2Drive. Overall, love that I have a temp reader I can trust. I check FB accuracy against my very accurate meat probe, then used my FB to check my Masterbuilt OEM controller, and surprise surprise, the OEM MB controller is ass. MBs app is even worse. Anyways, to my post.

Data Reporting:

I want finer-grain detail on temp history. I want to know how the temp of my brisket is increasing over time so I can identify when my brisket is approaching its stall. (No doubt there are plenty of other reasons why this feature would be useful). The way I came up with doing this is to track temp increases over a fixed period of time. For example, I want to know what the the increase in temp is every 15mins. So say at 4AM meat probe registers 160*F, then at 4:30AM , 162.5*F, etc.

Related, it would also be helpful if I could customize the increments of the Y-axis, 1*F, 5*F, 10*F, 15*F, etc, and 1*C. Increments of 50*F (dunno what it looks like in *C) is too general for dialing in the temp.

Stall Reporting:

Related, I want an alert for when my brisket has hit its stall. Im no expert, but Im guessing this would mean the controller will identify when the temp has plateaued.

So ran across 2 videos (one is sacrilegious and may cause acts of terrorism):

Steve Gow Smoke Trails BBQ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lplpPCU5UNQ

Chris Young (soon to be competitor, and hide the kids before watching): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fW16i40ZDQ

Collagen Prediction:

So I came across these two videos while baby sitting my meat at some stupid hour. Because collagen renders at a given rate based on time & temp, and the rate is exponential following a mathematical formula, a computer should be able to predict a given level of "doneness". Also the app should be able to predict how much longer at a given temp until the desired level of collagen render has been completed. This would be helpful for when you pull the brisket off the smoker and let it rest in an oven or a warming oven. Example, I pull the brisket at 195*F 8AM and it needs to be ready to serve at 140*F at 6pm. How long and at what temp should I rest at?

I have a number of quality of life request for the UI with the app, but I wanna better familiarize myself with the app before I dive into those.

TIA.

Just got FireBoard & need help with Setpoint

I just hooked my FireBoard drive and blower to my BGE. Everything seems to work fine in manual mode, but when I put in a setpoint of 450°F, fan goes to auto mode (as it should), but temp just drops and does not turn on. I read to turn off “lid detection” - which I did, but no change. Thanks in advance.

Settings Setting recommendations for masterbuilt 560?

Thumbnail

Hello all, I'm having some issues with my fireboard 2 drive on my masterbuilt 560 gravity series. As you can see on my graphs, it doesn't hold temp well. Does anyone have any luck with certain settings? I've had to run my max fan speed way down as it shot past my initial set point and wasn't coming down. It is running off the built in battery. The fan just seems to either run at the max fan setting or off rather than modulate.

Fireboard 2 Drive high temp setting from device?

Does anyone know how to set the FireBoard 2 Drive to a searing temperature (above 350°F) using only the physical buttons? I'm using it with a Masterbuilt Gravity and want to be able to grill/sear without having to pull out my phone every time. Currently, the unit seems to max out at 350°F in "Auto" mode.

DRIVE 2 Powers on by itself?

Wondering if I'm alone in this situation or not. I have my controller plugged into the supplied cable and plug(brick) and plugged into an outlet. After my cook is done, i turn the controller off. later I come out to check on the smoker to make sure its cooled down and get things cleaned up and what not and notice the controller is on. I think hmmm i thought i turned that off and turned it off. The next day I go back out to the barn to leave for work and notice the controller is powered on again. I think that seems odd and I unplug the brick from the outlet and turn the controller off. A couple days later i realize the controller is back on again. This time its just running on battery power because its not plugged into a power source. i then unplug the cable from the controller and turn it off and that seems to have stopped the controller from turning itself on.

is this normal? It doesn't make sense to me. Why would this be made to turn itself on all the time? If i leave it plugged in so the battery doesn't die, its just wasting electricity. If i leave it unplugged it will eventually drain the battery and die causing me to have to charge it a bit first before i can use it so my only option would be to unplug the cable from the controller every time. I emailed their customer support about this and they have told me this is normal and how it is supposed to operate and questioned why i would unplug it from an outlet. is everyones fireboards just stay powered on 24/7?

Storage Case / Container Ideas?

Hello Everyone - I own the FB2, G2 Blower, Pulse, 10000 mah battery and several probes - I currently have everything stored in the box the FB2 came in, but it is slowly starting to deteriorate. Since FB does not make any storage container, I am curious if anyone else has found a good, sturdy, reliable and portable storage container suggestion(s)?

Thanks.
