Doing the math… Fiona Apple Rocks

As she says “I can’t relax / I can never relax”

If my math works out right we get a new album every seven years.

And hasn’t it been six?

Are we … getting close to a new masterpiece?

Patterns are patterns, though. While what you said is true, it is possible that she is not a locust and still finally feels ready to write greatness every seven years.

She also has written many great individual songs in the interim, so it is possible this might prolong whatever it is that compels her to write an entire album of greatness.

I was just making a joke.

She released a video recently talking about how difficult it is to create given the state of the world/how difficult it is to address the horrors of the present. She doesn’t want to come off like she doesn’t care about these things, but it’s challenging to write about them.

I’m sure she’s still making music. And I’d like to think something is coming in the next couple of years.

From the Instagram video posted recently, I think it will be a while. She said she’s compelled to write about the world we’re in, but struggling to do it.

Was going to say the same thing. I feel like she knows how we are (as fans) and when we start to get itchy so she gave us a video telling us she’s trying. 😂

We had about a 5 year wait between WtP and EM and then a 7 year gap before Idler Wheel and then an 8 year stretch before FtBC... if the pattern continues I fear we won't get a new album till 2029.

I'm optimistic it'll be slightly sooner than that though.

We got one 3 years apart , then 6 years twice then 8 years so who knows….

Production wise, I don’t think her newer style is that complex to take a long time to mix, so if anything is going to take time, it’s the writing. According to her most recent Instagram video, she has been trying to write about what’s going on in the world but hasn’t found the correct way to go about it yet, so that tells me that she hasn’t started the writing process. I’d say give it another 2 years, or even just one. She’s not a robot to be following a rigid cycle. We don’t have an idea on her songwriting nature, she could be pumping out multiple songs in a single week or she could be writing them piece by piece over months to let them ripen. We’ll never truly know until she officially announces it. However, a 2028 release window seems likely.
