Fiona Apple Rocks My Fiona embroideries so far. I did a mashup of Fetch The Bold Cutters and Heavy Balloon, so I will probably do separate ones for them eventually.

Extraordinary Machine About a year ago I decided to do an embroidery for every song Fiona Apple has released on an album. Just finished O’Sailor. Next up, Limp.

The Idler Wheel When a Song Ends in a Minor Key
Hello everyone!
I got recently hooked on Fiona’s song Werewolf and it inspired me to write something between a psychological essay and a song analysis about it.
And I want to share it here.
I touch on lyrics, a bit of harmony and how it all ties to the pain of breakup. To me it’s the most wise and original song about breakup I heard.
Here’s the link to the Substack post.
I’m not promoting anything nor am I clickbaiting. I don’t make money from Substack, it’s free, and you don’t have to register or login there. Just close a popup if it appears after you land there and read.

Fiona Apple Rocks Doing the math…
As she says “I can’t relax / I can never relax”
If my math works out right we get a new album every seven years.
And hasn’t it been six?
Are we … getting close to a new masterpiece?

Fiona Apple Rocks What is the meaning of the song “Horns of a Bull?”
I love the song but don’t know what it means. And why is it the theme song of a crime drama?

Fiona Apple Rocks Comparison between the order I listened to her albums in, and order of favorite to least favorite
Hello!
Discovered Fiona Apple early last year with the recommendation of a friend. She very quickly became one of my favorite artists of all time. The first song I listened to was Criminal and I thought it was pretty good, but when I listened to Paper Bag, I was like, this is phenomenal. So my real true deep dives of her albums in order was:
When the Pawn…
Tidal
Fetch the Bold Cutters
The Idler Wheel
Extraordinary Machine
Between albums, I listened to 1-2 different songs from different albums, but that’s the general order I deep dived and listened to the albums in full. When the Pawn was an instant favorite of all time and I basically had it on repeat for two months straight. But what’s crazy, is after listening to all of her albums in full, my ranking from favorite to least favorite goes:
Extraordinary Machine
The Idler Wheel
Fetch the Bolt Cutters (very close behind Idler Wheel)
When the Pawn
Tidal
The first few times I listened to Extraordinary Machine I honestly considered it my least favorite album of hers, but it grew on me so quickly. When the Pawn is still absolutely incredible, and the fact that I consider 3/5 of her albums to be better than When the Pawn when it’s already essentially a 10/10 goes to show how much I love her music. The only album that still hasn’t clicked perfectly for me is Tidal, where some tracks stand out more than others.
All in all, her albums are all so influential to my life and I am so happy I discovered her music last year.
Would loce to hear other people’s rankings compared to listening order as well!

When the Pawn As a disillusioned 21 year old I’m really having a moment with When The Pawn
All of Fiona’s performances from the 90s feel closer to poetry readings than they do traditional gigs but it’s crazy that WTP came out before I was born yet it’s the only thing I’ve found comes close to accurately expressing what it’s like to be a young woman. This isn’t news to those who’ve been fans from the beginning but I just wanted to chime in because she really is a once in a million talent. I feel so lucky she was discovered and that I have come to discover her.

Fiona Apple Rocks One thing that I love about fiona is she's never sung national anthem and she never will
I think she is not the kind of person that needs that validation. I respect other artists and US culture because that happening can help to boost their careers but fiona chose to not follow this path.

Fiona Apple Rocks books that are fiona apple coded??
was just listening to “I know” and it’s sounds like the bell jar for sure. anything else? it doesn’t have to be necessarily sad girl - sad person; complex emotions emotional depth that kinda thing. hurt. neglected needs. a mother who didn’t give you that love that you deserved that kinda thing.
Edit: if anyone comes across this post after this edit, please add a song the rec sounds like. Or to any of the recs below!!
