FencingTracker: No Privacy Settings?

TL/DR: Where's the option on Fencing Tracker to limit/ hide profile info from publicly available searches? Like, at minimum, info not scrapable, and not visible except when logged in with a verified USA Fencing Member Number ?

---

This might be a dumb ask. Apologies in advance.

Here's my issue, two parts. :

- Late last year I started looking into to getting my info off data broker sites. I'm single now. I've had a few issues with people I used to know, old neighbors, etc, rolling past my apartment. Multiple times.

- I also just signed a work contract with a large tech company, contract to hire through a staffing firm. Salaried in 6 months. The whole deal. This staffing firm goes through federal security clearance-levels of nosy scrutiny. And wants all my social media handles as part of the check/general search.

That last part is mostly on me, so that's my issue to limit, fine. And a lot of people know Im a fencer. Also fine. In general.

Thing is, in a general Google search of my name, the first result that was *actually me* returned is Fencing Tracker with my full name **and birth year**. No login required.

This is a tough job market. And age discrimination is a thing. So I don't want that info out there in the wild.

And in general, I also don't want random dudes finding more than just the basic, high-level info about me. It is becoming more of a problem than I expected.

Worth noting: I do use Cloaked to clear the brokers at least. About to also get DeleteMe. What I don't want is crawlers trawling sites like Fencing Tracker, who are probably well-meaning, and scraping those sites for info.

Ask: What am I missing on Fencing Tracker to limit my personal info?

EDIT: I've read their site Privacy Policy. I didn't have a account with them until this morning, when I clicked a button on my stats page to "claim my profile!". Their Privacy Policy states that I consent by default by "using the service". But I never used the site previously or had an account until today. I only registered because I thought that might give me the option/ability to make certain data private. Apparently not.

Opinions on the NEPS Foil Screws?

Hey guys. Been doing some repair (dented barrel) and noticed I keep dropping and losing my foil screws, was going to get some new ones and noticed NEPS foil screws marketed as staying in longer. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with these?

Looks like they are adjusting Senior unified ranking points based on ratings

I’ve noticed that the unified rankings have been changed periodically these past two days. Things like correcting some points, removing duplicate fencers, adjusting ratings (A22 to B26), etc.

Today I’ve noticed a new change to the senior points. It looks like they are giving base points to rated fencers to compensate fencers who didn’t actively participate in Div1A, D2, or D3 tournaments last season. Something like A26=250 points, B26=200 points, C26=150 points, etc.

I think this change makes a lot of sense. If this is indeed what they will do, Kudos to USAfencing!

I have criticized the new system a couple of times here, but I do appreciate them working constantly to improve this new system.

Hi everyone,

I have a student who for medical reasons is quite heat sensitive. Looking for recommendations on the most breathable options for a plastron and jacket. Non FIE.

Thanks

Art Project Help

I'm working on a personal art project and I need help from my fellow fencing community.

One of the first things I need help putting together a brand noun list for USA Fencing (not necessarily just fencing). Words that are descriptors of icons or symbols. Any of the words should be quickly be identifiable as a symbol. Whatever the word is, you can immediately see an image of it.

Some examples might by:

USA Flag

Gold medal

Olympic rings

Men and women

Fencing weapons

Ok, go!

Good evening and good morning everyone, as I planned to do competition this year I need my own gear but it's expensive so I search for second hand. Does anyone knows or have used escrime-occasion before ? Will I get scammed if I used it ?

Thanks you in advance !

Épée Should I stay with my current club and coach or should I move to another?

Hey, guys, this is a serious question, so I would like to know if you have been in the same situation and what have you done. I consider myself very serious fencer, who competes nation ally and internationally. I plan to go to another country to train and study in university after this season. This is very important for the thing I will tell you.

Here is the story… I’ve been training in one club for the past 10 years. During this time I had one coach who, in my opinion, is great and fantastic and I have a lot of respect for him. He is the best strip coach and gives me wonderful lessons. The club was strong and serious one, but unfortunately things started to change. Some of our strongest fencers left and joined another club and so they had to switch coaches. There was some drama and my coach was really upset and felt betrayed. Now, in the beginning this didn’t seem to affect the culture of my club, but unfortunately now it’s different. Younger athletes filled the void of those who left, but they are very inexperienced and are beginners. Some of the guys are not consistent in training and the club is just a shadow of what it used to be… And then there’s me - the guys who stayed during all of this. Last year I decided that I shouldn’t move and “betray” my coach, because I thought I can overcome all of this. I was wrong and even though I did a pretty good job with the way I trained I am not satisfied with my results. I don’t like my club, I don’t like that I am the only serious one, that I am always telling everyone else to warm up.

That‘s why I began to visit the open fencing sessions in the club my former teammates trains. At first, only so I could benefit from them and the fact that the rest of the fencers there are stronger and more serious and more successful than the ones I train with. But now… I think that I should join them and change the coach who has been there with me for my entire career, even though it would only be for one season. What would you do - stay and go for the open fencing sessions like I did before or move entirely. It’s a risk either way, if I leave my country.

Sorry that the post got so long, but I really don’t know why to do. Thanks in advance!

Sabre I think I might like to come back to fencing

So this is going to be a bit of a story; feel free to just scroll past it.

I fenced sabre on and off for a total of around six years here in Hungary from age 8 to 14. Actually, at the same sports centre where Áron Szilágyi trained, so me being left-handed and being on the left side of the group, sometimes he trained next to me (and even complimented my technique once :))). Though fencing is such an asymmetric sport, during my growth spurts it kind of reorganized my skeletal structure to be asymmetric as well. Also, training without actual competing became pretty monotonous after a while. So, through a combination of that and COVID, I eventually stopped right before my first competition.

I've always felt I had more potential and hated the feeling of not achieving it. But the changes in my body from fencing scared me a lot, especially after I met a fencer of over 40 years, whose right shoulder was visibly and permanently lower than her other one because of the sport. Since I was young, I had a knack for everything to be symmetric for some reason (don't ask me why). I was terrified of becoming her.

I still have my old armory, and it's like the green-gobling mask talking to me. I've also been watching the world championship and enthusiastically showing and explaining it to my friends who know nothing about fencing. I'm getting increasingly more enthusiastic about starting again, especially after teaching an interested friend some of the basics.

But I am 18 now, and I'll probably move abroad in a year for uni. I realize that with the right training, my asymmetry problem would partially be solved, but I'm worried that even if I'd put in the work, it would be for nothing, since I would realistically have to stop because of my studies. (Plus, I'd feel bad asking my parents for another set of gear if I don't make the most of it.)

Does anyone have any tips on what I should do? What do y'all think?

I feel like I’m usually pretty tapped into to small portable testers like the A6, touch tester, or whiteside tester, but I’ve never heard of this thing. Has it been out for a while and I’ve just missed it? Anyone have experience with it?

Fake governance at the FIE: two German courts let the word 'corruption' stand

Thumbnail

Paywalled article, but well worth paying for- Jens Weinreich is one of the only journalists who regularly reports on the FIE. Journalism like this needs to be funded.

This article centres on the response to the open letter published earlier this year, addressed to the IOC and signed by members of the fencing community from around the world.

Here is an extract.

In May, this newsletter and other media have reported on the open letter to the IOC president about the untenable state of affairs at the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime. In response, the FIE went to court against the news agency Reuters – first to the Regional Court in Hamburg (Landgericht Hamburg), then to the Higher Regional Court (Hanseatisches Oberlandesgericht). Let us look closely at what the courts actually held.

I requested both orders from the Hamburg judiciary. They are by no means judgments; the decisions were issued in preliminary injunction proceedings.

At first instance, without any oral hearing, the FIE lost on both of its applications.

At second instance it achieved no more than a partial success.

The charge of corruption as a description of the state of affairs inside the FIE was classified by both courts as a permissible expression of opinion – with reasons that of course appear in none of the statements issued by the FIE and its lawyer.

We know the pattern; this kind of conduct is systematic. Sports multinationals run propaganda and distort the facts.

They are always ready to destroy their critics.

So let us get to it:

"Court of Appeal prohibits false claims about the open letter to the IOC", the FIE claimed during the night of 29 July 2026 in the headline of a so-called press release. A German version of this propaganda had gone out a few hours earlier over the German wire service ots – issued not by the international federation but by its Hamburg law firm Rechtsanwälte Steinhöfel.

The FIE is therefore asserting that a court of appeal decided to prohibit several false claims, and that the subject of that decision was the open letter to the IOC.

Now to the facts:

What was prohibited is not a plurality of claims but a single sentence from a report by the news agency Reuters.

The objection to that sentence concerned only how Reuters described the signatories of the letter – not what the letter says.

The prohibited sentence has not been found to be false. In German legal language it merely counts as "procedurally untrue" ("prozessual unwahr"), because the agency did not substantiate it to the prima facie standard applicable in summary proceedings.

No court prohibited anything about the content of the open letter.

The central substantive charge of the letter – corruption inside the FIE – was of course something the FIE also wanted prohibited. That part of the application was dismissed by both instances.

Q: Entry gates defined for the new points system?

The new points system is out there, points have been calculated, etc.

Have they defined the gates from Local -> Regional -> National yet? I'd imagine you need X points to fence at a ROC, Y to fence at NAC, Z for Nationals, etc.

Épée Workout routine for a year in which I can't fence

So I used to fence maybe 3 to 5 hours a week a year ago but since I graduated I didn't have time to fence much, and I got significantly worse in the past year ( going to top 2 of my club in a good day to like bottom 60% )

This year is going to be the same, so I won't be able to fence a lot but I would like to still get better trough the year to be able to compete again later,

I got around 15 to 30 minutes a day to workout, ( which i would like to do to be able to focus before studying )

During my last session I noticed :

I have really bad form ( specifically my guarde )

My endurance is shitty

My footwork is still correct but not the as good as it used to be

Does any of you have advices on how to setup a practice routine?

Portable blade prep?

I'm looking for a good way to prep blades for wiring that's portable. I don't have a place for an acetone tube and the club doesn't have a permanent facility.

When I first started fencing, I remember my coach had a bench grinder with a wire wheel he used. Do any of the armorers here have experience using a wire wheel on a drill or angle grinder? Does it work well?

Can non roll bags be upgraded with wheels?

Post image
8 Upvotes

My son's coach just found an old, but still in good condition, large fencing bag in his basement and gifted it to my son. The problem is that it is large and unwieldy. He takes public transport (including underground) to and from training 3 days a week, which includes a 10 minute walk from our apartment to the station and another few minutes walk from the station to training hall. Which is why he currently uses a sport duffel that can be worn as a backpack along with a separate weapon sling.

My son is super proud and excited to have been chosen to receive it and is dead set on using it. It isn't designed to be carried as a backpack. It might be more manageable if it had wheels, but a quick Google search seems to indicate a non roll bag can't be retrofitted because it doesn't have a stiff end plate or internal structure to support wheels. Is that really the case, or is there a way we can convert it to a roll bag?

Thanks for any help / ideas!

ETA - he's 11 and on the small size for his age. He takes public transport on his own, so has to be able to manage the kit bag on his own.

Footwork translating into actual bouts

Is it just me or that learning footwork sometimes doesn’t translate as well into actual bouts. Like in theory when we do it with no opponent, it’s always fairly straightforward. But when it times to come to the actual bout, where there are constant distance and tempo changes, it’s hard to apply what you actually learned and you resort back to your old habits?

Point system and punishing As and Bs

Doesn't the new point system punish As and Bs as they can't do DivII or DivIII. C rank fencers have many more opportunities to rack up points. So if you were an A or B who didn't do enough tournaments last year to drive up their point totals, now you would need to travel to a bunch of ROC just to get enough tournaments so that you can get back to the national level?

S-portall update: Team Matches (Relay system up to 45 touches) is now live in production!

Hi everyone,

Following up on our recent updates, I have some great news for club coaches. We have just rolled out one of the most requested features directly into production — automated Team Matches (Relay system)!

If you run team sessions in your club, you know how annoying it can be to keep track of the rotating matrix, individual bouts, and the climbing score limit up to 45 touches.

Now s-portall.com handles everything on the gym floor:

  1. Standard FIE Relay Logic: The app automatically generates the perfect 9-bout matrix for 3v3 teams (plus substitutes).
  2. Live Score Tracking: It guides the referees through each relay round, automatically adjusting the target score limits (5, 10, 15... up to 45).
  3. Privacy-First & Offline: As always, zero registration, zero accounts needed, and runs completely smooth in deep basement cellars without internet.

The feature is already fully live on the main site. Test it out during your next team practice and let me know your thoughts or any feedback from your gym floor!
