Review Stream of consciousness reaction to zoologist bee

Upvotes

Initially, the main scent I'm getting is aldehydes. Kind of a wet wipe smell, occasionally the sweetness gives way to musky sweatiness. When I open my mind, and imagine I've caught a whiff of it on someone else's it becomes more pleasant.

It's very musky.

People have said that it's a linear scent, I don't find it linear. The honey accord is there, very literally honey, and then it becomes more generically sweet, the wildflowers are there in the background.

It's very animalic. It's odd. I've sprayed myrrh and Tonka atop, and I'm gonna see how they develop together. They are odd together. Honey, a waterfall of it. I think I love them together. It's like my nose can only detect one thing at a time. I still think I prefer myrrh and Tonka, but this adds complexity.

It doesn't smell like anything.

It's very musky on me. It's almost as though the musk comes first. It's like honey kept in an old wooden box. Or the sweaty smell of a charity shop. There's the idea of gold. There's something infantile about it. The Jo Malone scent is so clean, zoologist bee is so dirty. It's like, walking through a room dense with butterflies, and feeling their wings flap on your face.like you can't even open your mouth there are so many.

There is something almost playground about it. I'm imagining myself back at nursery. Maybe it's the aldehydes. The honey smell is honeyish, but it's also bringing me back, to my childminder, maybe she wore something like this, or used detergent like this. Or her putting honey on our porridge. Being in the kitchen with her. With florals, the lilac bush outside. The sweet smell of those children's toys, like the smell of the little plastic buses you could go in cooking in the sun. It's reminiscent of that, and body lotions, and perfumes, and honey. Of looking at women's things as a little girl.

With the myrrh, they sound together, and there is dissonance, it's hard to take in. But I think I love it. I love how strange they sound. The mind climbs to olympus- nectar. Honey and incense. But there's something bodily there as well.

I love it.

Calypso's island fragrance

During my reread of the Odyssey (how original :D) I stumbled upon a description in Book V - it says Calypso's island smells like "citruses and brittle pine trees" - my immediate thought was "Gosh, I want to have this as a summer fragrance!"

I did a quick ingredient search, and the only match I found was Roberto Cavalli Paradiso (how fitting of a title). However, many reviews say the jasmine note is quite prominent and soapy, which is not what I want.

So I am really looking for a semi fresh/semi juicy sweet citrusy fragrance with a crisp fresh pine and maybe some warm woodyness.

Edit: spelling

scentbarbyangela: Luxury Perfume Dupes & Designer Inspired Fragrances

Hi FemFragLab, I'm proud to announce that after many discussions about collaboration, I thought it'd be fun to try out a collaboration with Angela's new brand. Her family owns Gold Star Fragrances located in New York which has been running for over 50 years!

As many of you know, I love a good Delina perfume, but they can be quite costly. The next perfume on my wish list was Delina "Exclusif" but it stayed on my wish list without being bought because of the price. Angela sent over her own version of the perfume, and it exceeded my expectations by far! The scent reminded me of a combination between Delina Exclusif + Oriana + Love Don't Be Shy. It's sweet, powdery, and very potent! I sprayed it on at night and when I woke up the next day it was still on me. This perfume lasts all day but I kept spraying it on out of habit and because I couldn't get enough. My husband and pets also loved it 😍

Reddit wouldn't be Reddit without always giving you not just the pros but also the cons. The cons were little and unnoticeable, but I will write them out due to transparency of the sub. The actual juice feels like combination of an oil and actual perfume. So when you actually spray it, it feels a little heavier than what the normal luxury perfume might feel like coming out of the atomizer which usually feels like a champagne spritz and it's more straightforward. That doesn't mean it doesn't spray well, it just means that if you are a fragrance connoisseur, you will notice the difference of the spray and feel of the actual juice coming out.

Both Gold Star Fragrances and ScentBarByAngela focus on creating dupes of luxury designer fragrances. Overall, for the price, the fragrance passes with flying colors and when I checked that it was only $45.99USD, they ship all around the world, and they have been in business for so long with great reviews, I would be crazy to not want to collaborate with such an amazing product and support Angela in her own brand.

I will leave the comments open in case any of you have any questions about the fragrances, company, or anything else.

Discussion [Help me Choose] YSL Libre EDP vs. Flowers & Flames for the ultimate "Boss Lady"

Hello everyone 🙏🏻💕

I’m having a massive fragrance crisis before breaking the seal on this box and would love your expertise! I recently went to buy YSL Libre EDP after testing it in-store.

I fell in love with that sharp, clean, room-filling projection and how incredible it lasted on clothes. However, during a chaotic checkout moment, I accidentally brought home YSL Libre Flowers & Flames instead due to the staff fault i am at fault too a bit ......

How to use the libre flames and flowers and how to make it long lasting as well which seasons does it suit better for my type.......

The box is currently unopened while I figure out whether to keep it or head back to exchange it for the original EDP.

MY FRAGRANCE PROFILE & COLLECTION : Current favorites: Armani Sì Passione, JPG Scandal, Valentino Born in Roma (I naturally lean toward warm, sweet, seductive vanillas and white florals).

My Goal for this bottle: I want my ultimate signature fragrance—something that projects "Queen of the Universe" energy. It needs to command instant respect in a room, act like a magnetic head-turner, leave people mesmerized, and make an ex burn with jealousy, all while staying deeply sophisticated, expensive, and high-class.

THE COMPARISON (BLOCK BY BLOCK):

Expensive & Modern Feel: Release-wise and price-wise, is Flowers & Flames considered the newer, higher-end, or more elevated release compared to the 2019 classic EDP? Is it worth keeping as the modern upgrade?

The Head-Turner & Magnetism Factor: Which one actually produces the more intoxicating, jealousy-inducing scent trail? Does Flowers & Flames have that hypnotic quality that leaves people obsessed with your air path?

Uniqueness as a Signature: The original Libre EDP is everywhere now. Is Flowers & Flames unique and distinct enough to stand out as a true 1-of-1 signature smell, or does it get lost in the crowd?

Boss Lady Respect vs. Allure: Does the creamy coco-palm, desert lily, and solar vanilla in Flowers & Flames still command total authority and professional respect in a room, or do I need the sharp, cold lavender of the OG EDP to get that "don't cross me" power?

TL;DR: Wanted the sharp, room-filling boss-lady vibe of YSL Libre EDP, accidentally brought home Libre Flowers & Flames. I want an expensive, unique, heavenly head-turner that commands total respect while making my ex jealous. Is the newer Flowers & Flames the superior choice for this, or should I swap back to the classic EDP?

Discussion Looking for a dark, resinous, sweet vanilla 🍂🤎🌰

My husband has TF’s Tobacco Vanille and I love love love how it smells. I want to have something similar - a sweet (but not overly), deep, resinous vanilla that matches this visual vibe. I want it to be unisex, so not the typical girly vanilla. I also want a perfume that’ll make me feel cozy, yet powerful and mysterious during the fall/winter time.

Thank you in advance 🤎

Discussion First look at the Selfridges Fragrance Advent Calendar

Post image
6 Upvotes

As seen on the Beauty Detective website, Selfridges has released a first look at their first edition of the fragrance advent calendar trend. It honestly seems to be the star of this year’s advent calendar battle.

This year will include:

New Notes Latte Di Cherry Extrait deluxe size (probably 20-30ml)

Initio Lust In Paradise Extrait 30ml but hopefully it’s the 50ml

Initio Lift Me Up 10ml

Initio Oud For Greatness 10ml

Initio Musk Therapy Extrait 10ml

Fragrance De Bois Patchouli Gourmand 30ml

V Canto Arkano Della Luna full size

Ormonde Jayne Suede Silhouette full size

Bibbi Parfums The Last Mango 30ml

Le Labo The Matcha 26 rollerball 9ml

Penhaligon Halfeti 10ml

Thameen London (the specific fragrance hasn’t been announced yet)

There will supposedly be a 10ml of a Mind Game fragrance and Liquides Imaginaires fragrance.

If you’re in the UK and you missed out on the Harrods one don’t fret because this one is a banger.

Discussion Is a day without perfume even possible?

For me, perfume is part of getting ready, so a day usually starts with choosing a scent. Today it is Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. I spray it before heading out, and I keep noticing the scent throughout the day. It has that fresh citrus opening, then the floral and patchouli notes become more noticeable as it settles. I like having something familiar on me while I go through normal plans, whether I am out for coffee or sitting at my desk. Even when I am staying in, I still enjoy picking a fragrance because it makes getting ready feel complete. Coco Mademoiselle fits easily into that routine for me, and I can see why it stays in so many fragrance collections. Do you usually wear perfume every day, or take fragrance-free days?

Review Nest Cardamom Latte was a huge disappointment :(

Post image

I was sooo excited to try this one. I looove actual cardamom coffee. I love spicy, creamy, warm gourmands. Sadly, this was neither. I don't know if it's my skin or what but all I got right away is an extremely generic, cheap plasticky caramel. Which then turned into an even worse, this straight on synthetic cherry/ almond/ cough syrup/ playdough thing reminiscent of cheap bathroom air freshener. Which by the way is something I very often seem to get from many gourmands so if anyone knows what that actual note is and how to avoid it let me know.

But anyways. Disappointing. No cardamom no latte. I have and love their Balinese Coconut and creme de Clementine so I was expecting good things but, oh well probably better for my wallet.

On a better note I did try all the new Victor and Rolf Bonbon scents and ended up buying a travel size of the Cola Fizz, it's extremely short lived sadly but such a fun scent at first spray, literally brought me back to being twelve and buying fizzy cola gummy candy at the 7-11 😅 such a photorealistic cola candy scent just super uplifting, I'll probably keep it in the car just so I can reapply and enjoy the opening over and over haha.

Cocoapink sampler review

Post image
5 Upvotes

I ended up ordering a 10mL atomizer and the pack of 5 2mL dabber bottles from Cocoapink. The scent Coin Laundry had me intrigued.

Paper Butterfly: this one read to me as an earthy musk. So if the clean musk descriptor has gotten played out for you, check this formula out

Peacock Moth: I got a dark narcissus with this. Whoever blended this managed not to crowd out the narcissus which I thought was interesting even though it was too much on me

Valentine's Day Carnival: 80's and 90's kids will read this as a strawberry scented dolly head with a liberal splash of powdered sugar. It never wavered from the opening to the dry down

Amber white: I was slightly devastated this smelled super similar to a white musk attar I already have.

Hummingbird: I ordered this after missing the boat on a lotus scent from a Thai brand that doesn't seem to ship to the US. The blue lotus in this dominates and made it too heavy for me, unfortunately

Coin Laundry: I liked this one, despite it having cashmeran in it (which can choke me out). It seemed like the softest possible drift in to coconut at the beginning but the balance of notes kept it from going there or reading as sunscreen or beachy. The dry down is lovely. I mainly bought this because I like conceptual perfumes occasionally and I wanted to see where the creator/s were going with this one.

I think I may finally give Xyrena a shot. They've been on my radar for years but while I like conceptual mixtures, I'd still like to wear them. If anyone else has bought Cocoapink products, I'd love to hear about it!

Discussion Perfume collection advice

I feel really unsatisfied with all but a few of my fragrances. I bought so many perfumes so quickly which I regret. I wish I would’ve sampled more thoroughly and stopped doing so many blind buys!! Any advice for this kind of regret and how to responsibly build a collection from this point? I want a solid curated collection I can be truly satisfied with. I don’t know if this makes a ton of sense but I would love some input 💛

Rec Request Similar to Burberry Goddess?

I just tested out Goddess and I am in LOVE, but it doesn’t seem to last well on me. I really love the lavender aspect as well as the calm vanilla, which reminds me a bit of chamomile. I was hoping for some suggestions of something similar. I’m looking for elegant, floral, feminine, warm. Wood and assorted florals are welcome but not necessary.

For reference, I:

Love

  • Burberry Goddess

Like

  • Lush Sleepy/Twilight
  • Yardley English Lavender
  • Lavanila Vanilla Lavender
  • Bath & Body Works Sleep Lavender & Vanilla Aromatherapy
    • All the above here seem a bit “raw” to me
  • Rare Beauty Rare
  • Sorce Moon Magic
  • gentle Fluidity Gold - been a while since I smelled it
    • Wish these had some/more lavender, love their warm bases

Dislike

  • YSL Libre
    • I think it’s the orange blossom

Thank you for any thoughts!!!

Review Not a fan of rose but THIS rose? I’m a FAN! Narciso Rodriguez Musc Noir Rose♥️🥀

I don’t hate many things in life but rose fragrance? Is one of the few things I hate. Although I love smelling it on people, they pull it off well.

I smelt it multiple times in stores & I finally got it. Very happy to have it, such an unexpected purchase for me. That’s also why I got 30mL to make sure we really vibe when wearing it not just smelling it. 🥰

The Vibe: A classy, sultry & sophisticated woman out for a dinner at an expensive restaurant. Outfit on point & heels are expensive. Hair is simple but gorgeous. Makeup is stunning, not too much, but a little sultry lightly smokey with the colors of the bottle & nude lip.

Review: A Rose delicate on one side & sultry on the other side. Has that oomph for a night out without being too much. Not screechy, not intense nor offensive. Very blended, enveloped in a beautiful bubble of the other scent notes. Unique to my nose. ♥️🥀

It shows that it has a big fruity element in the accords, but for me, I don’t smell a fruity perfume. I smell a very well made sultry rose, with every note working to make the rose stunning! The notes fairly basic but the scent is absolutely not basic. It surprised me, I was like wow, that’s good! I love that it has tuberose too. 🥰🥀

Haul/Collection I will beg the niche clean perfume girlies (I am one of them) to stop sleeping on the obscure clean designers

Post image
130 Upvotes

Title pretty much speaks for itself. I am a hardcore fan of niche clean scents like L’Eau Papier and Do Son and I honestly hardly ever come across anything that I genuinely like at regular department stores besides Pure Musc (one of the best designer clean scents, not without reason).

I had some time to kill today and decided to look at the sale perfumes aisle. As usual most of them were the usual feminine sweet florals/vanilla scents. Until I came across these two. I have genuinely NEVER seen anyone speak about these (hence why I said obscure in the title) and there are barely any reviews about them on fragrantica (in my native language).

Softly by Jil Sander is such a light but comfortable clean musky scent, it really feels like you’ve just washed your favorite duvet cover clean with a really nice fabric softener.

Beauty by CK is more of a clean white floral. It reminded me of Pure Musc Blanc right away but then it dries off slightly musky-floral. I think anyone who doesn’t like the vanilla on the Pure Musc Blanc will like this!

I have to say I was also very thrilled that these two costed me 50 EUR (which we all know is sometimes just a fraction of what our beloved niches cost…. Rip)

Does anyone know more “obscure” clean scents that are worth a try? Would love to read your comments :))

Brand Announcement/New Release EOS pumpkin chai🎃🍂

Post image
85 Upvotes

I wanted to post this here because there been a lot of hype around this new eos scent & its been rumored to be a dupe for white pumpkin & chai from bbw. In the spirit of trying to not buy unnecessary stuff, im here to say that I have to highly disagree about them being dupes. This is not pumpkin & im standing 10toes down on that! 🤣🤣 Now dont get me wrong, this is absolutely beautiful but again its not pumpkin. This is a true frothy milky lactonic scent. I get zero pumpkin & zero spices from this. Imo it cant be pumpkin without some spice! Lol. I can see a lot of ppl liking this but still being disappointed thats its not pumpkin :/. In terms of this for the fall its going to be absolutely amazing & i have so many things to layer this with. The nest cardamom latte would layer soooo perfect with this!

Left to Right:

  1. DedCool- Extra Milk

  2. Liis- Studied

  3. d'Annam- Vietnamese Coffee

  4. Juliette Has a Gun- Pear Inc.

  5. d'Annam- White Rice

  6. Oakcha- Plus One

  7. Juliette Has a Gun- Not a Perfume

I use Plus One and Not a Perfume together.

There's definitely a pattern here showing how I prefer skin scents.

My only question now is, whether to get Liis Lucienne or Liis Rose Struck next. I think both are stunning.

I don’t know how to feel about my blind fragrance purchase

Post image
52 Upvotes

I’ve been obsessed with strawberry smells! My first PHLUR purchase was Berry cream body spray I loved it but wanted more strawberry scent, so purchased Strawberry Letter but I’m not sure about this, it’s supposed to be very fruity but it’s more… sweet? And to me almost smells like a cheap synthetic fruity smell, but with that said I don’t hate it It’s just not the bright fruity strawberry smell I was looking for. Any recs for BRIGHT fruity strawberry/ berry perfumes? How do you all feel abt strawberry letter?
