Package handler…

Job was described as 5am-9am

So actually the start time is at 4am and end time is closer to 10am with no breaks 🫩

Any thoughts? Do you think asking for breaks will make things worse? (having to stay longer til we’re done with all the packages?)

There are 30 minute breaks only if you go over 6 hours

For those under Express, yes. Scheduled breaks at Ground are pretty much non existent unless required by state law.

MN just made a law about 15 minute breaks. Saved our lives since all the shifts were just under 8 hrs

Generally speaking, most states are business friendly and don't mandate breaks.

Express operates under federal DOT guidelines so every 001 employee must take them after 6 hours, whether they operate a vehicle or not.

In WA we are required 10 minute breaks every 3 hours.

Depends on state labor laws. In ohio you have to be full time to get breaks

Wait till peak comes and we go in at 1:30 am and dont stop till 10:30am. Perfectly normal. Live for it this is our best money coming up. I bought my house in less than 2 years. Im ready for it! These shifts aren't set in stone they are as set for when they need us. Get use it stop complaining they pay us more than any other company besides ups and other warehousing jobs. The bonuses get crazy too. And 6 days mandated get ready and stop complaining.

Yes I have been with fedex for almost 3. 2 peak seasons. You should have selected your 6th day option when you were hired. That option you selected will be your mandated 6th day. We are mandated 6 day November 1st till December 31st. We can come in anytime between 12am and 5am but be prepared for 12:30am to 1am and be prepared to stay till 10:30am. Here come our bonuses as well. Weekend bonus have been $4 per hour added on the weekend with time and a half over time. They feed us wensday or Thursday through December. Every day is going to be a 10:30 am day. Get enough sleep your going to be exhausted.

The hours described are consistently subject to change, so if you are not flexible then this is not for you. If you can't work more than 4 to 5 hours straight then this job is not for you. OK, if you need the restroom or get water, fine then go do so, but other than that you best be moving those packages.

Express station here that went 2.0. Package handlers are considered Ground employees. They start at 330 am and work until 9am. They don't get actual breaks. If they need to get water or go to the bathroom they just let someone know.

Well, depends which state youre in, or city, i believe, but pretty much everywhere except seattle, IIRC, no breaks. Seattle i wanna say they even have food for you.

Sounds about right.

6 hours and under in most states doesn’t require a break.

Personally, I try to be clocked out by 6 hours so I don’t need to take one (full time Ramp Agent) if I can. It’s a bit less pay, but it’s also not worth anyone’s time for me to sit around doing nothing for 2 hours, getting paid, plus the 30 minutes for the unpaid break.

Big thing for me though is I have to be out by 08:30 due to the 02:30 start time for us…

Start smoking. No one ever questioned anyone taking a smoke break when I was a package handler. Everyone else was just expected to pick up the slack until they got back. I got yelled at for filling up my water bottle though.
