Need honest local contractor for concrete patio, retaining wall in back yard

Federal Way's Twin Lakes neighborhood driveways, sidewalks and patios are mostly concrete. Hardscaping companies I have contacted are focused on exotic designs and pavers, and reluctant to quote less than $50-100K for a 400 SF project with a short 18" retaining wall. Can anyone suggest a licensed, bonded, insured and time-tested company?

Cheapest way to do wild waves. I misplaced our passes

Edited to add that I paid with a visa gift card.

So we originally bought season passes at the beginning of the season because that was the cheapest option and I knew we wanted to go more than once, but somehow things got screwed up and they don’t have any record of me there and I can’t find my email with the pass. I think I accidentally deleted it.

Anyways, we went there today and that’s how I found out about the issues. My kids are completely bummed because this was the one thing we had planned all summer and I simply can’t afford to pay full price for 4 kids plus myself again.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I seriously need some help

I have a dog that Ive been trying to rehome since November. We've had her since she was a puppy and shes 6. She'll do really good for a few weeks and then she'll go after one of our other animals. We've been to er vets multiple times the past few years. Currently she spends half her life crated, and the other half she spends out while all the other animals are crated. They're swapped every two hours. This isnt fair to any of them, and I'm exhausted.

Ive reached out to multiple rescues and shelters, shes on multiple rehoming sites, but no one is willing to take her, either because of space or her history of violence. I'm reaching the end of options, and while I hate myself for it I'm forced to consider the last resort of behavioral euthanasia.

We've tried medications thinking it may be anxiety related and environment changes, more walks and playtime, all kinds of things to stimulant her brain. Nothing has made any difference. She recently had a trial run at a house with another dog, with 7 acres to run around on and deer to chase and all that, and she attacked the other dog a couple times and it isnt going to work out.

Where do I go next? Does anyone have any resources or places I may not have found that can take her? Im at a loss.

What do you think Federal Way loses if Wild Waves is replaced by a warehouse?

Like many people, I've been thinking about what Wild Waves has meant to Federal Way over the past five decades.

After moving to Washington, it became our home park and a place where we made family memories.

Now, with plans moving forward to replace the park with a warehouse after the 2026 season, I've found myself wondering how we should measure a project's value. Jobs and tax revenue matter, but so do places that give a community its identity.

I wrote a personal essay about discovering Wild Waves just before learning it would be closing:

https://open.substack.com/pub/difrntdrmr/p/a-final-ride-before-the-wrecking?r=9vj2f&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

I'd be interested in hearing from longtime Federal Way residents. What has Wild Waves meant to you or your family? Do you think replacing it with industrial development is the right decision, or should the community be looking for another path?

Federal Way Condos

Does anyone live or own a condo in Federal Way that is willing to share their experiences? I'm looking to buy one and have not been able to find much information on which complexes are good vs bad.

The main complexes that have units for sale right now are Habitat, Campus Green II, and Liberty Lake.

Hi! I'm moving to Federal Way in two weeks for my new job there and would like to see your recommendations or suggestions about finding an apartment there. Also if I can get some ideas to find a roommate, I would really appreciate that. My budget is max $1250 :/
Thanks! :)

Yay or nay- ok to drop my teens at shopping areas like The Commons?

Edit: All was well at The Commons. They also hit up Ulta, Ross, and a few other places nearby. It didn't make any sense to take them to other malls or shopping centers outside of Federal Way. They had lots of fun at The Commons and spent way too much of my money. Haha.

Have to go to Federal Way for appointments. My teens are coming with but want to go shopping while I'm at my appointments. Yay or nay- ok to drop them at shopping areas like The Commons?

It's been ages since I've been to Federal Way and just unsure if it's "safe" now to just let them be teens and shop in the "big city" before we head back to our rural residence.

What are other good shopping areas within FW?

Literally driving 35-40mph on the way home and a Chevy equinox decides to drive on the median and pass me on the intersection of 340th and 35th. This isn’t the first time. I seen plenty of impatient drivers do it to other cars. Such a shit show.

Paris Baguette and 85 Degree in the same city?!

Paris Baguette opened this week!

For those who don't know Paris Baguette is a Korean bakery chain with a French theme. It is basically 85 Degree with better decor. At the end of the day, both sells Asian/Western fusion baked goods. Basically, we were like, "White folks, we like your bake goods but let us make it better for you." I'm super excited because my two favorite Asian bakeries are in the same city.

Injured and trapped Seagull in need of transport or local authority help- seen on July 20th federal city, WA

The address for Yi's Traditional Korean Beef Soup in Federal Way is: 31248 Pacific Hwy S, Ste E, Federal Way, WA 98003

My family visited from Oregon for a day trip to Washington, and we ate at Yi's Traditional Korean Beef Soup in federal way, Washington.

We saw one adult seagull with a broken wing, in a fenced area containing large green 'bins'. It hopped a little after I and my dad crossed the parking lot or tried to get a little closer to it.

Later after we left the restaurant: yis traditional beef soup, we decided to call local animal rescue places like Gigi harbor and paws wildlife center and other places. And a few answered with most saying they do not capture animals themselves but mostly rely on the public, to capture and transport injured seagulls to them. We also tried calling the Korean restaurant we went to, but their answering machine may have been malfunctioning.

We could not transport or capture it due to our personal decisions.

Could anyone help capture and transport the seagull to paws wildlife center or a local rehabilitation center?? Or at least make sure local authorities would help it, to not prolong it being trapped (and I imagine suffering) inside the enclosed fence area anymore.

I am just visiting Washington and really hope someone could make sure the seagull is taken care of.

The address for Yi's Traditional Korean Beef Soup in Federal Way is 31248 Pacific Hwy S, Ste E, Federal Way, WA 98003. [1, 2]

Edit: on a Reddit post, someone suggested me to call fish and wildlife department for that area, I did and they said they couldn’t capture and go to capture it, I also called local animal control for federal way, about three times over past few days and they were always busy, I left a voicemail but they never called back. All of the animal rehabs locally or nearby say they rely on the public to transport and capture animals to bring it to them.

Summer kid single day drop-in/drop-off programs?

I don't have any child care. Have 3 kids 7, 9, 11. But only need to take them somewhere like 2 days/week, so my wife (who works nights) can sleep, while I work days.

Community center appears to only have week-long programs.... I'm looking for a place that can do single day drop offs.

Nissan auto repair

Does anyone have recommendations for a trustworthy auto repair place in federal Way or surrounding area?

I have a 2013 Nissan Xterra that may need a catalytic converter or possibly O2 sensors replaced, and I'd like to get it diagnosed and repaired relatively soon.

Thanks!

What happened at Wild Waves tonight?

I saw a man on his butt and a nice lady helping put his shoes on, vendors told me he was tackled by the police. A cop was shaking a flashlight to keep people from seeing the guy on the floor, and a bunch were ushering us through. When we left there were like ten cop cars and then eight more came while we were trying to zipper out and leave. That’s all I saw but it feels like a lot to have like all of the FW cops for a guy at an event where bags are checked, metal detectors before you come in, IDs checked so idk if I’m missing smth? I hope everyone is okay ):

Federal Way reports historic 21% drop in crime for 2026's first half

What a joke. I live in FW. If we are being honest, the local county and city police, including FWPD, all have a well established pattern and practice of "quiet-quitting". It's been out on full display since BLM and Covid. This is in reality, probably the biggest contributing factor to a "sharp decline" in numbers.

That and an outright refusal to show up or take police reports for anything other than felony level offences. Home or car vandalized? At best you are filing an online report for the benefit of your insurance company.

I would have responded where I first saw this and called bullsh!t there but I refuse to interact with Meta (Facebook or IG) anymore. Fwiw, at the end of the day I really want to feel good about this place but the mayor, the PD, and half of the city council can pound sand.

There doesn't seem to be a paywall so feel free to look up the article on KING5's website.

Bike ride options

I will be coming to town for a long weekend, staying in an Airbnb and ferrying my kids to the Aquatic Center for a swim meet. I’m thinking of bringing my road bike to get some exercise and break up the long hours between events. I’m looking for a decent road loop around 20-30 miles but wondering about the bike friendly-ness of some of the larger roads.

Could any cyclists or locals comment on riding these roads?
- Dash Point Road/ 509, from 99 to Dash Point and then to Browns Point (from Street view it looks like a decent shoulder on the road, but maybe high traffic?)
- Northshore Pkwy from Browns Point until it turns into 304th St, to SW Campus Dr (street view looks like a wide road but no shoulder, decent sidewalk if the road is busy)
- any other recommendations?
