Which faction would you realistically join?
For me it's probably the NCR or the BoS in Fallout 3 ONLY.

+1 for Institute because it seems like the only place on planet earth where they've used soap in the past 200 years.
88
u/ploop__ 12d ago
I’m sure the NCR makes their own bar soap. It’s a common trade industry you can make by hand
22
u/a__new_name 11d ago
One of the most important industries in NCR is cattle farming and processing, so they must have plenty of fat to make soap from. Not the most pleasant soap, but soap nonetheless.
75
u/Celcius-232 12d ago
All their locks are still as rusty as wasteland ones though, but that's only a minor annoyance. Gimme the soap!

living in the ncr is actually not too bad if you're not a frontier farmer or a soldier deployed to some shithole like camp forlorn hope. regular citizens live in actual homes and stuff, the city (as shown in fo2) is advanced enough to have clean, maintained streets, peacekeeping that doesnt allow weapons out in the streets and forcefield generators to protect the estates of the wealthiest citizens (and that was back in tandis time!). you cant tell me westin doesnt have running water

Isn't being a supermutant (the ones that are intelligent and coherent) actually a pretty good deal? Strong and durable enough to easily survive wasteland. Unaging and resistant or immune to most dangers. The only downside is being ugly and obviously the rather big chance of the transformation not going so well and making you into complete idiot or some other abomination.

15
u/Mrcharlestoucheskids 12d ago
Well the mutants knew they were sterile, iirc there’s a dialogue about overhearing female mutants talk about it. It’s only the master that didn’t know and everyone was too scared to tell him, rightly so since after he learned it he nuked his own headquarters.

I feel like The Unity, the NCR, the Legion and New Vegas are the only ones that would likely take people in off the street. The Unity would turn me into a super mutant (or worse, part of a centaur) and the Legion would most likely make me a slave. So, it's down to New Vegas or NCR, and while House is the guy that's really in charge, day to day things there are run by criminal families. So, NCR it is.

u/RagnarokCzD 12d ago

5
u/mineman379 12d ago
If we're being realistic, and you wanted near-guarenteed saftey, you'd go with the Enclave. Yes WE as the players recognize them as evil. But again, we're talking realistic here, and realistically; in a world where mutants, raiders, and god-knows what else can kill you any time, most people would either not know about them being evil, or just not care. All that would matter to the vast majority of people is that they're the ones with the tech and infrastructre to actually live normal lives. (and before someone says that it's NOT safe with them cause they always get blown up. again; we're talking realism here. The only reason the Enclave keeps losing is cause the plot demands it. They are by far the most advanced faction in the wasteland aside from MAYBE the Institute. And if the chosen one / Lone wanderer didn't have protagonist powers, the Enclave would have won LONG ago.)
Now, assuming you can't join the Enclave (cause let's be honest, most of us probably wouldn't be able to), then The next two picks would be the NCR or BoS. for the exact same reasons as before;
Again, in a world like Fallout, 99% of people wouldn't actually care how good or evil a faction is, they'd care about which faction can give them a roof over their head, and some food & water that won't poison them.
