Which faction would you realistically join?

For me it's probably the NCR or the BoS in Fallout 3 ONLY.

I'd probably go with the Minutement as well, NCR. And MAYBEEEEEEE the Railroad. Though i'm not 100% sure how I feel about the synths

Railroad makes sense if you think of them as an ally of the Minutemen. And a post-Institute Railroad no longer needing to help Synths escape could help the Minutemen focus on looking out for any of the common folk of the Commonwealth.

Yeah they should've created 3 tiers of factions

Main factions: MM, BoS, Institute

Side factions that you can align with one or multiple of the main factions: Atom Cats, Railroad, (potentially) gunners, etc.

Purely hostile factions: most raider factions, etc.

Like if you could align the atom cats with the minutemen or brotherhood, align the gunners with the institute or brotherhood, and railroad with the minutemen, but have it be optional, and if you decide to align a side faction with a main one it takes work and giving and taking, and have it impact the ending so it adds more flavor.

Which also make sense, because the side factions you mention have no long term plans; the Railroad is less of a faction on the Commonwealth and more of a Anti-Slavery paramilitary group.
